Let's start with the positives first. Location is excellent in the heart of Bayeux and close to tour pickup point. Booking online was easy. I was placed in a room with a mini split that worked fine for cooling. Now the negatives. The room was at the top of a very narrow winding staircase. Not easy to get up or down those stairs after walking around Paris for days and hauling luggage. Though I could walk around the bed so floor space was more generous than some other rooms I had to watch not to bump my head on the ceiling and I'm not a tall person. There was no coffee maker in the room or an electric kettle to heat water for tea. The bath was a small plastic enclosed shower with one soap dispenser. Water cups were paper, placed on the edge of a small basin with stacked wash cloths and hand towels. Aside from the stairs the worst part was a heavy perfumed smell which was nauseating and took some time to adjust to. The white pillowcases had several long dark hairs and the duvet cover had some staining. Were I not booked for just one night in a very busy town I would have relocated. The price was high for quality of accommodations, $306.84 for one night. My least favorite of 4 hotels across France during my travels and one I would not stay at again. read more

First off we did not stay here; only booked a tour to Mont Saint-Michel. The driver Alios was a super friendly young man. As a first time visitor we were confused as to the procedures. Partially through we realized they had a headphone rental, which would have helped immensely. It would have helped greatly to have received a little guidance before going in. We were dropped off at the shuttle point and told when the return time was. In defense of Alios he was a newer employee of the hotel. The Churchill Hotel itself is nice, the room was comfortable, and the breakfast was adequate. The price was about what I would expect in a popular tourist location. But the best thing about the Churchill Hotel is its location. It is right in the heart of Bayeux, France. You take a few steps from the hotel and it seems like you went back in time 900 years. The stone buildings, cobblestone streets and the nearby cathedral all seem to be frozen in time from when William the Conqueror was there some 900 years ago. It's a great place to take a walk and explore the area around you. If you are planning on doing any sightseeing tours of Omaha beach or other nearby sites, the pick-up place for most of the tours is just a half a block away behind the hotel. So if you're not planning on spending a lot of time at the hotel and you just want to take in the tourism in the area, this is a good hotel for that purpose. read more

This place has a great location in Bayeux, but beyond that, it was one of our worst hotel experiences ever. And we travel a lot. Consider what we encountered on a group tour: Some rooms were small and cramped, with slanting ceilings; some had beds barely big enough for two people; at least one room had no hot water; some had weak wireless connections, and many had no internet connectivity. The rooms in the 200s were probably the worst, where you had to walk up two flights of steps which were not consistent in their width and depth. Our room was nicely sized, but we had no wireless connection. None. Zero. And we were staying here for a week. How does that happen in 2023? We reported this to the front desk and they acknowledged that the signal was "weak." But it actually was nonexistent, and they could do nothing about it. Most of the people on our tour had no or very spotty internet reception. Management responded to a google review last year saying: "Thank you for your feedback, we are going to change the wifi network this winter and we will make some renovations in all our rooms too." Clearly that never happened. On the morning of our second day, we asked if it would be possible to change to a comparable to get a connection. But we were going on a tour that day, and, knowing about complaints from guests in other rooms, we said we wanted to see the new room before confirming a move. We asked the manager to do nothing with our belongings, until we had a chance to pack, see the room, and verify there was an internet connection. We returned that evening to find that our original room was EMPTY. Without our permission, they had entered our room during the day, scooped up our unpacked belongings, put them in laundry baskets, and taken them to the most cramped room in the hotel. To do so they picked up scattered personal belongings, including jewelry, razor, toothbrush, comb, dirty clothes bag, and other small personal items. This gave new meaning to the phrase "personal touch." We were furious. As ridiculous as it was to not have wireless access, we wouldn't have wanted to change for that very sub-par room, that is marginally suitable for a guest requiring a single accommodation. And it was outrageous that they had touched and moved all our personal belongings, which was done so under the direction of the manager! We wanted our original room back. Once back in our original room, we realized that they had unlocked the small safe and left it open. In the safe were our passports and cash. If we had, in fact, moved, we could have lost those items. What carelessness! That's not all. There is a "free" breakfast included in the room charge, but they ran out of eggs and croissants on two mornings. How do you run out of croissants in France? We DO want to say that most staff - including the two ladies on the night staff, and the breakfast room attendant - were very nice and accommodating. It is the management that is lacking. Bottom line, if you are visiting beautiful Bayeux, we strongly recommend choosing another fine hotel nearby. If I could give it negative stars, I would do so!!! read more

Churchill reminds me of Mr. Belvedere. It's aged, creaky and old fashioned English. Truth is it's a perfectly acceptable base of operations to see all the D-Day sites and Bayeux Tapestry (don't forget the Tapestry!) but I think it's a little past its prime. I suppose some would say that adds to the character of the place, but you go to Bayeux to see what the world remembers about Normandy, not to spend time admiring your hotel. I particularly liked the part where our room's window was right above the smoker's patio and how it was impossible to close the closest door to get into bed if there was anything in it. Well, since I could not get Starwood points in Bayeux, this was a perfectly acceptable if offbeat alternative to my usual lodging choices. It is old but clean and somewhat charming. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom new and spotless, with - get this - an American style stall shower with a full sliding door. No shower flood in this French bathroom! The front desk staff day and night was friendly, accommodating and totally fluent in English. My only real disappointment was breakfast. It was OK, but nothing was memorable about it (OK, the room was bright and cheerful). Free wifi is available in the breakfast room, but it worked reasonably well in my second floor room, as well. It is a short walk from the Tapestry Museum, is right off the main street and is close to where the D-Day tours pick you up in the morning, If I were to come back to Bayeux, would have no qualms about returning to the Churchill. read more

Excellent location, with a grocery store and good pizza place right across the street and many of the tour groups meeting a very short walk from the hotel. Bayeux Cathedral is a short walk as well. Shower worked well, safe worked well. Comfortable bed. Plenty of closet space, plenty of plug outlets. As for the bad, my room still let in a decent amount of light from outside even with the curtains fully closed. No fridge in room, but to be fair, they didn't advertise one. It was no problem for me to get a cup of ice from the front desk when I asked. The room key has to be left on the wall next to the reception whenever you go out, and I didn't see any safeguards to keep someone else from taking your room key. The room was pretty pricey at around €200 a night. Finally, when I checked out, I think the staff could've been kinder. I was there in early June and I think it was an English girl at the front desk, and it struck me that I had been treated with greater kindness and respect by the employees at McDonalds in Paris, or by the girl at the Bayeux tourist office, than I was by this employee after spending hundreds of Euros at their hotel. read more

Very quaint bed and breakfast type hotel. Staff is very friendly and speaks English well. Our room was very small which was fine for our needs and the bathroom while newly renovated was also very small. Furnishing a were old, the bed while hard did the trick of putting me to sleep. Our room had AC but never got very cold. The hotel itself must be 200+ years old. If you like old structures you should love this place. Not sure there is anything much nicer or newer in Bayeux. read more

Wonderful location! Close to super restaurants and Bayeux cathedral. However, buyer beware with this property. They say they have an elevator/lift...they do NOT. They say they have in room coffee.....they do not. They say they have toiletries....hmmm. Well, it's a soap dispenser in an extremely small shower. For Euro 155 you get: 1) an awesome location to access Bayeux. 2) a very friendly staff; 3) a significant hassle finding where and how to park; 4) a narrow steep stairway to upper floors; 5) no bar soap or shampoo; 6) hot water that is virtually non-existent after 0730; and, 7) a hard working but frazzled server in the breakfast room (get her help). read more

We stayed three nights while visiting Normandy. Our room was small but very clean and comfortable. Staff spoke English and very friendly. Though wireless Internet is available in the lobby, the location of our room allowed us access all the time. Location is very convenient to restaurants in town and for meeting Normandy tour companies. We would stay thee again. read more
