Fort National is right there, only accessible during low tide. The walled city is a five minute walk, and has so much to offer, especially food. The tourism office is right on the way towards the walled city. Our first day, or night I should say, was the worst possible start of a trip in the history of ever; but this hotel and it's wonderful, cheerful, helpful staff came right in and saved our trip. They made our first night super relaxed and enjoyable, though we'd been through hell. We can't recommend this hotel enough, it was really exactly what we needed to be able to reset ourselves and enjoy our trip after a terrible flight/car rental/arrival/stranded mishap (thanks for nothing Expedia -_-)

The staff was beyond helpful, multi-lingual (including great English), and always seemed friendly and eager to help. We dealt with at least 5 different staff at the front desk, who helped us with everything from trains, car rentals, pizza delivery an tipping etiquette, to various other information. They even offered to make car rental arrangements for us, when our pre-booked rental fell through. If you are an English-speaking traveler, and your French is less than great, stop reading and book here. As for the room, they have a huge shower, with dual shower heads, and a separate room for the toilette. The bed was large, although it was really two pushed together. The mattress could be better, but this was the only real complaint. There is a garage for parking, but was 15€ a night. It is also very tight to maneuver down there. Luckily, we had the smallest car possible. The location of the hotel made for perfect, quick access to the beach for sunrise and sunset photos, right near an old island fort, accessible at low tide only. It is also right next to the main gates of the walled city, where all the food is located, including some late night options. I cannot recommend this place enough. It is more modern than charming, but the helpful staff alone is a huge arrow in your quiver, especially for first-timers in either France or St Malo, and for language challenged Americans.

Location - I recommend staying close to Mont St. Michel (i.e. one of the hotels located just 10-15 min away from the actual "island") so you can get there early in the morning to avoid the crowds and see the tide changing. It's much cheaper than staying on the actual island which can be double the price. It was super easy to get to the "island" via the shuttle which comes really frequently. There's also a few restaurants close to here (Relais du Roy, next door), and a few places for a quick snack (Brioche Dorée, across the street, right where the big gift shop is). The big gift shop also sells food, water, etc. if you're hungry/thirsty or shampoo, soap, etc. Breakfast - The breakfast was included in the hotel rate, and was decent but not amazing. I didn't expect anything exceptional - it was a standard continental breakfast (yogurt, bread, croissants, cheese fruit, juice, tea, coffee). There's not really anything served hot, as most everything is cold. They start serving breakfast at 7 am so that you can take the early shuttle if you want. Room - The room is pretty small, like most European hotels. Its decor was pretty artsy/whimsical. The bathroom was fine too, a bit small but decent. I found the hotel to be clean and fairly new (not super modern and new, but it didn't feel like it was built in the 80s and never touched since then). Amenities - The WiFi was pretty slow and it was annoying that every 15 minutes or so it would boot you off and you would have to reconnect. We were only here for one night, so it wasn't so terrible, but if you are expecting to have fast/good internet and it's a deal-breaker for you, you may want to stay elsewhere. They don't have standard bath products in the hotel - just a multi-purpose shower gel & shampoo all in one product, so if you want conditioner and separate shampoo, bring your own. Parking - If you call them ahead of time, they will give you a one-time code to enter the gates into the area (it's a one-time, personal code just for you, so if you want to drive out of the area and then return, you'll have to get a new code from them). We got the code the day before our arrival, and it was 4€ for overnight parking which is pretty reasonable. The parking lot was adjacent to the hotel, so we didn't have to walk far with our bags. Overall, the location was great and perfect for the one night we wanted to stay here. It was worth paying a little extra for being so close to the shuttle, and I'm glad we didn't stay on the actual island, as we were able to get there super early in the morning anyways, and saved 100€ or so by staying just slightly further away. I would recommend this place if you're looking to stay overnight in the area.

Bath is good, nothing to complain here. Breakfast is above average for three star hotels in France. You will get croissants, pain au chocolat, baguette, cereals, yoghurt, eggs and ham as well as good marmalade. Now, the dinner. Don't miss it, because it's really good stuff. Options are a la carte or you choose between three kinds of menus, for 25, 39 or 49 euros.

My friend booked Hotel Saint Aubert for all of us. It had free parking and was relatively close to the shuttle stop to Mont Saint-Michel and within walking distance to most restaurants. The check-in process was challenging. To enter the gated area, each hotel sends guests an access code. Well... we didn't have one. We used the intercom on the gate to get a code. Next, there's no receptionist at the hotel. Some other guest had to tell us to check in at the last hotel, down the street. Our friend drove there while we stayed outside the hotel with our luggage. Our rooms were on the second floor. There's no elevator. Two of my friends had backpacks only. My roommate had a heavy luggage and a rolling carry-on bag. OMG... hauling our things upstairs was another hurdle. Haha! The room was compact. It had a toilet in one corner and the other corner held the sink and shower. It was a bit cumbersome. The breakfast buffet saved the day! Croissants were very flakey and messy! Coffee machine was excellent! Eggs, bacon, cheese, fresh fruits, yogurt, and granola were great! Since my family was just looking for a decent sized rest stop during our road trip through Normandy, this proved quite sufficient, considering each stay also comes with dinner and breakfast at the restaurant owned by the same establishment. The motel is quite dated, and most workers are divided in between the hotel and the restaurant during work hours. You can't really check in until around 3 pm, and the shuttered desk will remind you of that fact with a sign in both French and English. The rooms are quite sparse but clean with a large window, decent-sized flat screen TV, small closet, medium-sized bathroom, and compact writing area. The best feature I enjoyed was the towel dryer, which you can double as both a bathroom heater and clothes dryer. Since you'll probably be milling about most of the day trekking to Le Mont Saint Michel, I would say this is a sufficient enough choice for a stay. Just make sure to lock your window before you head out as they have no screens. Similar to many other hotels in the area, no A/C, so make sure you plan your travels accordingly. Another tip: if you don't ask for the complimentary menu at dinner, they'll give you the regular, more pricey menu. Make sure you explicitly ask for the one given to guests of Saint Aubert. Really beautiful walk towards Saint Michel, but if you'd rather catch a navette (trolley-ish bus), you can do so for free just a few steps away from the door.

Yes it is 'God's town of the frying pans'..... there are loads of shops that sell copper goods and the town makes church bells since the middle ages. I had a wonderful meal of crab cooked in pastry, with a truly awesome sauce, and with a nice glass of white, I was truly happy that we got lost as the restaurant was so charming. I got directions and less than an hour later we were drinking du chocolat at the farm.
