My room was a bit cramped but fine for just one person. It was simple to make the reservations online and they had special Internet prices. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I also liked knowing that artist Paul Gaugin had stayed there! It's close to the metro, the train station, lots of eateries, and a big flea market/farmer's market on the weekend. The Montparnasse Cemetery a few blocks away is interesting to walk through; several well-known (even to Americans) French artists, writers, and musicians were buried there. We stayed somewhere else a the start of our trip before heading down to Nice and then our last night in France at Hotel Mercure. Our room was small but clean and quiet (you cannot hear the trains), served our needs. There's a cute little bar in the lobby with snacks which creates a lively atmosphere. The lobby had modernized since our last stay which was more than ten years ago. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance and high-end restaurant Le Train Bleu is right there in the station.

Normally would considered this a 4 star…read morereview experience but some issues- 1) There was a power outage on 11/1/2019 early morning and I reported it to the front desk but he couldn't understand me. I said "no electricity". Didn't understand. Then I said "no power", he spelled out p-o-w-e-r? Then I said "no light", and then he retorted I should have said no light at the beginning as though I didn't know English. Ok, that would have made sense if the TV / hair dryer were working and the lights couldn't be turned on.... but whatever, this is just a basic human defensive mechanism when you don't want to feel stupid. 2) We were told at check-in there was breakfast beginning at 6am, but the receptionist failed to tell us there was a fee or what was the fee. In retrospect, this appears to be a common issue with Google reviews. Usually, a good receptionist would tell you more instead of just saying "there's breakfast". It's sort of like saying there's WiFi (with no explanation there's a fee) but then they charge you for usage after you check out. It ended being somewhere around 19$ per a person per a day. We stayed there for 4 days which amounted to over $160! Had we had known, we would have definitely looked into alternatives for breakfast instead of the same menu everyday. Tips- Location- It is actually on the 2nd level if you're on Rue De Bercy. We were so stomped to not be able to find the hotel once we took the Rue De Bercy exit. Some perks- (+) there's a small gym, but still better than nothing. 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical. Don't remember if there were weights (+) there was a safe and refrigerator in our room. We got a new bottle of water everyday which was well appreciated. (+) despite being close to the train station, we did not have issues with noise. Just some weirdos around the station every now and then. (+) there's several Velib bike stations nearby although the train station's bike rack tends to be fully occupied frequently Overall, customer service was pretty nonexistent. Staff is either disgruntled or that's just how they are. There were a few staff members when we walked in but no one flinched or even tried to greet. Greeting guests does not appear to be customary.

It's not anyone's fault that the temperature in Paris is so cold at the moment. However, one should have the possibility to turn on the heating in autumnal temperatures. After we complained about all the stuff we didn't got any solution - so we left the hotel. A day after we got an e-mail, that we have to pay the whole stay without sleeping one night. Never again! Please go not there. Is very lousy.

The Grand Amphitheatre includes seating for around 3000 and is where many special events (including concerts and conventions) are held. The convention center includes lots of rooms that can be used fur a myriad of purposes and the building architecture is really quite nice. The shopping is quite good and as the building is connected to the rail, metro, and has bus stops nearby it is easily accessible. There is also a parkade.
