Nonetheless, we're happy we gave it a try but will probably stay at other hotels in the future. ARRIVAL. It's right down the street from the Arc de Triomphe, which is fantastic. The bellhop service was great and very much needed to carry our heavy luggage up a few short flights of stairs to the main hallway. At the top of the stairs is a long wall-to-wall counter. One would assume this is the front desk, but it's not; it's the concierge desk. You need to walk down the hallway to a small counter to check in. I watched several folks get redirected down the hallway. ROOM. We stayed in a beautiful room. See the attached photos. Even though it was a good-looking room, it was poorly designed, and it hasn't been upgraded well over the years. There was ample (hanging) closet space, but not enough storage for anything else. The shower in the bathroom was ridiculously small. You couldn't even lather up the shampoo without bumping your elbows on the sides of the shower. The amenities are what you'd find in a 3-star hotel. The hair dryer was at least 10 years old. SERVICE. The service was decent, but the people providing the service weren't very friendly. We've had friendlier service at 3-star hotels. RESTAURANTS. We ate breakfast at the hotel each morning. The selection was good, but nothing stood out as unique or quaint from a 5-star hotel. Before we left the final morning, we went up to the rooftop bar. The views were fantastic (see photos), and I wish we had had time to visit when it was open. WHAT I LIKED MOST. The location and the room terrace with a view of the Eiffel Tower. SUGGESTIONS. Stay away from the mini bar. The water alone is 8 euros. They don't tell you this when they're introducing you to your room.

We also love grabbing food, bringing it back to the room, and eating it out on the balcony. Air conditioning and hot water work great and kick in quickly. In-room safe is super easy to use. Lobby staff all speak English and are super accommodating. Every employee is friendly, and they even remembered that it was our honeymoon. Oh, but if you don't tell them specifically not to enter your room, they'll clean it even if you leave the Do Not Disturb sign up. Free WiFi. Bed is pretty nice. Entire hotel is very clean. The lift is a little small, but it hasn't broken down once while we were here. It does stop at the floor below and you have to take about 16 steps to the 8th floor, but it's not that bad and I wish I'd just brought our luggage up myself when we got here. One quirky thing about this suite is that it does not have a shower with shower head. It has a bathtub in the middle of the bathroom with a nozzle you have to hold by hand. I knew about the bathtub without the shower based on other reviews and pictures on TripAdvisor, so while it was a hassle for my wife at times (I actually liked it because I never take baths back home), I didn't mind it and we both knew about it coming in. The walls ARE thin. This hasn't really been an issue for us until this morning when our neighbors had guests knocking at 8am and they've been up and about ever since. FYI, as you sleep in the Amelie room, your head is on the opposite side of the wall from the Marie Apartment (I think the couch area). Their door is a couple feet from yours, so when they close their door, it does make a bit of noise. You can hear water running and phones ringing next door as well. Basically, know what to expect before you get here and it'll be fine. I literally told my wife "Well, it seems they did a really good job turning an old apartment building into a pretty nice hotel." Me, I actually like being a little bit away from all the tourists. And no joke, we were deciding between this room and a standard room at a very highly rated hotel that would've been smaller with no view, but which would have come complete with a rainfall shower, larger screen tv, spa tub, and better technologies, top notch shower/shampoo/etc. In the end, I purposely opted for the view plus more space. But I suppose if audio privacy, peace and quiet, and the ability to get your superfreak on without anybody bothering anybody are at the top of your priority list, you should stay elsewhere. I personally just leave the TV on (usually CNN, although there are a few UK channels in English as well) to drown out the noise from other rooms. Other stuff: There's a Metro stop about 100 yards away (with a McD's next to it) and an RER stop about 200 yards away. There's a real nice bakery just across the street north of the hotel which has baguettes, pastries, salads, and sandwiches. We became fond of the Fromagerie on the same corner as the bakery. It's great for getting meats and cheeses for your bread or grabbing juice, water, etc. (We've yet to actually partake in the 20 euro breakfast at the hotel.) There's also a wine store across the street. Within a few blocks of the hotel there is fast food, bistros, restaurants (French, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Moroccan off the top of my head), a fruit store, pharmacy, etc.

We fell off the night train from Munich and checked in around 0930. The room wasn't ready yet, but the staff was happy to watch our bags (the front door of the hotel is kept locked whenever the front desk is unmanned). The staff all spoke excellent English and gave advice about umbrellas and guarding against pickpockets. Our room was the triple room on the top floor (thank goodness for the lift, though it was quite a trick to get all three of us and our packs into it). The room was more of a suite with a large double bedroom, two single beds and a desk area, and a bathroom with a full tub and shower. Both bedrooms had roof skylight windows, which made them seem like a cozy little attic apartment (not the lame kind of cheap attic apartment that you get around American universities). There were two log-ins for the wi-fi, which caused no small drama with the three of us and our multiple devices. There is breakfast available for a charge (we of course went the cheap route and bought groceries instead). The hotel is very convenient to the train stations, though it is a bit of a hike from sights like the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Beware that the maps they give out can be a bit deceptive! Each square on the map is almost 3/4 of a mile! We looked at the maps and thought, "Oh, the Eiffel Tower's not that far away!" It's almost four miles if you go directly (we took the loooooooooooong way around).

It has a somewhat bed & breakfast coziness found in a local part of town which was perfect; it was not packed with lots of tourist. The free use of bikes were great; it gave an athletic and slightly more adventurous way to get around the city. The two gentlemen running the charming place were helpful and very nice. They even had an in house dog that was very cute and mellow. When I go back to Paris there is no question as to where I will stay, Hotel du Nord. Au bientout.

I find springtime in Paris to be the ultimate experience myself. With that being said, you can only imagine its glamour and unique beauty. It is ideally situated amidst the culture, fashion, cuisine, art and theatre of Paris! And there are so many marvelous, Cafés, bakeries, coffee shops, unique shops, Fine dining restaurants, and museums right nearby. With only 20 ensuite rooms, a reservation is a must in advance and it is a private boutique hotel, which means you need to be a member of the world's most prestigious hotels. I am via, the Hyatt Members program. They do have a concierge with limited hours and maid service daily but there is not room service and the bar has very limited hours, as does the kitchen for light snacks. Basically, most of your meals will be dined out or brought back to your hotel to enjoy in your fabulous room or on your terrace or in their beautiful lounge. It's a fabulous opportunity to absorb yourself into history culture, and everything Paris stands, for. We are so pleased that we chose to stay here and may considered again.

We stayed here for 4 nights and just as we were about to be say our stay was okay for the price they hit us with a bill at checkout saying the local calls that they told us was free was NOT free and we ended up paying 50 euros for freaking phone calls.
