It is located just under a mile away from Slussen, which is where I stayed during my time in the city. It uses island platforms and is on all green lines (T17, T18, T19) which all go on slightly different routes between Rådmansgatan and T-Centralen. The station seemed to be layed out much better and clearer than other stations with signs saying "this platform for Central Station" for example - I have found that many other stations on the network did appear to be too large and difficult to navigate, but it didn't seem to be much of a problem here. The tiling here has been preserved so you won't see the same levels of art etc you see at other stations, which is a shame as Stockholm's Metro has some of the best underground metro art I've seen at any subway throughout Europe. It did appear to be understaffed for a metro station in such a central part of Stockholm, and it didn't seem to compare to other nearby stations in Stockholm centre which seemed to either be more modern or have more facilities but still, it is in a good location, again it is a shame the red line hasn't been connected through here like both stations either side of here on at least one route so it could mean changing to get on with your journey. 2*

The station is the next northbound from T-Centralen (towards Norsburg on Line 14 and Fruängen on Line 14) and this is where the lines split, so the next station is Karlaplan towards Ropsten on Line 13 and Stadion towards Mörby centrum). The station opened in 1965 so it's relatively modern with two accessible exits, one by Östermalmstorg and one by Stureplan. The one we took today went diagonally upwards. The station is one of the deepest stations within the system - but still, it doesn't compare to London Underground levels as surprisingly I could still get a full and decent mobile signal within the signal which I found common on the network - I'm not sure if that is down to the depth of the station or the strength of 3 in Sweden, my carrier while I was in the country. - This station is 23 meters below sea level. Inside, it isn't the nicest of stations but it is made nicer by the artwork from various artists, without it it would be an ugly mess. It requires three lifts to get out of the station due to its depth and I must add the third lift is surely in need of renovation as for multiple days it had a strong stench of urine to the point I'm guessing it hasn't been cleaned for a long time - however one of the entrances to the station is on a rough side-street where many homeless people do hang around which could be why. It is only on the red line (T13 and T14) but this is okay as it is only one stop away from T-Centralen where you can change for many more services - or stay on to the likes of Gamla Stam and Slussen on both lines. Not the greatest station on the network and surprisingly understaffed for such a central location but still in a nice location with some good artwork to warrant an extra star. 2*

It is sort of under the Centralbron bridge and underground though it has some crosswind from the outside. In the winter, this is not a place to hang around. This station is part of the core of the city center and the red and green lines converge through here. The station is also the closest to the old town tourist district so I would expect it to be more appealing to visitors. Signage was decent and I spotted the usual turnstiles and ticket vending machines. There were t-bana staff about and security. The station has two island platforms for four parallel tracks. The red line trains (Line 13 and 14) utilize the inner pair and the green line (Lines 17, 18 and 19) use the outside tracks. There is free inside transfer between the lines. Gamla Stan is a station of the Stockholm metro on the Green and Red lines, often falling between…read moreCentral Station and Slussen - at the moment this station is the only in-accessible station on the metro with the lift currently being out of order, with only large staircases from the platform to ticket hall/exit - which is such a kerfuffle I'd even say if you do struggle with steps, you'd be better off getting off at Slussen and even walking for a few minutes or going one stop on the tram, which pulls right outside the Vapiano, you can see while waiting for a train on the platform. The station did seem a little dirtier than other stations - it is one of the few on the network which does seem to attract homeless people in certain areas. I didn't find there to be any staff at the station, which for me during a difficult period with the lift breaking down with no prior notice (you wouldn't know the lift has broken down until you physically get off the train) to be quite poor form as there should be someone or something reminding or informing people of these problems, and helping them get around them without too much delay or distress. It really does need to fix cleanliness and access and perhaps make Gamla Stan, a fairly central station in Stockholm's metro network, a staffed station. 1*

Compared to other stations - it seemed a little understaffed and the artwork wasn't as impressive - in many areas the station just felt bare, it felt like it was trying to copy T-Centralen but just a worse version. Parts of the station could be signposted better and kept better (in terms of cleanliness, overall feel etc) as I was a little confused leaving the station towards East Station. A much-needed station to connect onto the Roslagbanan, in what is far from the nicest part of the city of Stockholm. 2*

10 minutes away from central Stockholm on the T-bana (metro), Solna Centrum is one of my favourite…read morestations on the network for the overall art and beauty of the station, a red and green painting which goes around both platforms and the small interchange looks great, although Stockholm's metro art is already pretty good across most stations. After leaving here it is a good walk away from what I'd say is the main part of Solna, one of the country's fastest-growing cities a short journey away from Stockholm so if you are heading to a game at the Friends Arena or the country's largest shopping mall, Mall of Scandinavia you might want to take the train from Stockholm City instead getting into Solna Station for easier access - however, this could be a way to beat the crowds. There were signs for the Friends Arena and Mall of Scandinavia originally but after leaving the platform, it was so difficult as everything seemed to vanish - even finding the bus stop to head there was a little tricky and my GPS seemed to be unable to direct me any further as Google Maps doesn't seem to understand underground subways. It is right near Solna Centrum shopping mall, of course carrying the same name but this appears to be really run down since the opening of Mall of Scandinavia in late 2015. The station is only on one line, T11 which means if you want to make any connections onto any other line, you would probably have to go into Central Station which isn't ideal, but it could help to beat the crowds on a match-day after waiting for AIK or Sweden's national team play nearby. 3* - The artwork is something to be proud at and once you know where you're going (good for the many houses and offices close to the station), the commute towards Solna centrum and the shopping, dining and football facilities isn't too bad - better signage from the station and perhaps making this station staffed would be a great improvement. As with any station on the metro network, it is step-free and the gap between the train and the platform isn't bad compared to other stations as expected as this is a newer station, opening on the 1975 blue line extension.

But that takes longer and boy was it crowded yesterday. I had already contacted Arlanda Express because I will not be turning on my phone here. Why pay for all those telemarketers to annoy me. I'm older and accessing these QR codes scare me and I wanted to know if I could get a paper ticket. Yes but only here at the machines in Stockholm. Arlanda Express is quick to respond to your questions. This is the only way to go if you are jetlagged because of delayed and cancelled flights. There are 3 stops. Two at the airport and one at Central Station. Your other choice, the commuter train, can and yesterday was, packed like sardines. We couldn't even make it out the door and had to go to the next step and circle back. We are very familiar with Stockholm but you will find, for us non Swedish speakers, that the commuter train announcements and stations are worded slightly different than expected. Plus you have to walk to get it and walk and wait at the train station whereas Arlanda Express is right there AT the airport. It was COLD yesterday. On the return trip, I am spending the extra money for a more predictable trip. 18 minutes from Central Station. There are discounts for 2 or more paying normal price. Cheaper than a cab or ride share. And cheaper than an overnight stay at an airport hotel. But keep in mind that it only goes to Stockholm Central. That is fine if you are staying nearby. But even if you arent, Central Station has all the very good subway lines to transfer to. We were going to Sodermalm and I thought my initial commuter train was smart because once I got on it, it would take me to the part of town that I was staying, cheaper. At 24 hours awake, I have now learned to spend the extra few bucks on the faster less confusing option.

Also if you're flying from Terminal 5, you save some time from walking to the transit hub at Terminal 4. Essentially as soon as you exit Terminal 5 baggage claim, you walk directly to where it says Arlanda Express, and take the lift up and you're on your way to Central Station. If you're traveling with multiple people, make sure you buy your tickets together because they offer a multi passenger discount. I flew by myself so I didn't get to utilize this discount... next time! There's no assigned seating (it's open seating!), so just hop on and find a seat (and a place for your bags). It saves time from having to find a specific train car or assigned seat. At Central Station, Arlanda Express operates from Spår 1 & 2. There's quite a bit of gravel outside the station, so I recommend walking inside the station vs dragging it through the gravel outside. Time and distance is the same. I flew SAS, so when I returned to Arlanda, I took the escalators up to the side that said Departures. Follow the signs up, and you'll reach the check-in counter directly in front of the escalators for SAS. Fast Track are to the right of the escalator, for those who don't have any bags. Pretty convenient if I might say! All in all, it took me about 40-45 minutes to complete my journey from Central Station to the SAS check-in counters & Fast Track. So while I paid an arm and a leg for Arlanda Express, it was very convenient since I didn't have to walk too much to get to/from Stockholm. It was nice that at T5, it literally drops you off right at the SAS check in area. Given the high price point, I give it a solid 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 stars. If the price can be cheaper, I'd definitely give it a higher rating.

T-Centralen where "T" is an abreviation for "tunnelbana" that is the Swedish word for underground. Lots of escalators and many lifts. This is the only station where all of the subway lines meet and is therefore the busiest station in the Swedish network with an underground underpass to the Stockholm Central Station (for national and regional trains) where we caught the Arlanda Express to the airport. Both of the blue lines (Lines 10 and 11), both of the red lines (Lines 13 and 14) and all three of the green lines (Lines 17, 18 and 19). Thankfully, there's a great color map that shows what's what and where. Many food and shopping opportunities. Luggage storage areas. Several places to sit and rest. Super beautiful and there's so much to see, shop, and explore!…read more If you're like me and forgot to grab snacks or souvenirs before heading home this is a great last stop to pick up treats. Just note things are a bit overpriced, but that's kind of expected in a station like this. One thing that really stood out to me was how friendly and helpful people are. If you ask for help, they genuinely go out of their way, which made navigating way less stressful. Overall, it's pretty easy to find your way, but it's so big that you can def get a little lost. It also has direct access to the subway, which is super convenient. One tip: if you buy the 18-minute ticket to the airport, double check exactly what you're being sold and make sure you keep your copy. The tours & ticket booth (near McDonald's) sold us the wrong ticket and we weren't able to use it nor get refunded, which was really disappointing.

You need to know which is the last station on your line so you know you're headed in the right direction. Most of the stations have lifts or escalators. Some stations have staff. A few stations have indicators of the next train and how long you're going to need to wait for it. The trains are frequent enough and they are definitely clean. These subways are unmatched, fun, and gorgeous! If you are exploring the subways yourself, I would give yourself 2 hours and buy the 75 minute ticket :)
