Stockholms Centralstation

Like many big cities including Rome https://www.yelp.com/biz/termini-ma-mb-roma-3 and Amsterdam https://www.yelp.com/biz/station-amsterdam-centraal-amsterdam-2?hrid=v4oOkuHpMZxzzvUC1_jR4g and Copenhagen https://www.yelp.com/biz/k%C3%B8benhavns-hovedbaneg%C3%A5rd-k%C3%B8benhavn-v?hrid=lwhTIX0PdJK2pINr2Tr1uQ and Düsseldorf https://www.yelp.com/biz/d%C3%BCsseldorf-hauptbahnhof-d%C3%BCsseldorf?hrid=oUSIhtRQntK0O0eFPI7j0A, there's a central station in the downtown city center. This is the core spot for connecting from local transportation to longer distance trains. Stockholm is no different - there are trams and subways and commuter rail and regional trains here as well as local and longer distance buses. All three Stockholm subway lines converge here! As you can imagine, the station is a rabbit warren. With all of these different connections, there are many, many levels. Some of them above ground, most of them below ground. There's signage but it's not completely transparent. On my first arrival and connecting from the Arlanda Express https://www.yelp.com/biz/arlanda-express-stockholm?hrid=uPxdfkTKrK_uZK_KHQaEUA to the subway, I accidentally got to the commuter rail. I caught myself before boarding the train. Some folks are going to have layovers here. There are multiple food vendors ranging from grab-and-go to sit down restaurants. There's a lounge. And you can step outside for a smoke. It's a modern station with step-free access in nearly all places, or you can take the escalator. I did not encounter any places that were stairs only that would prevent a wheelchair or a baby stroller. [Review 18096 overall - 13 in Sweden - 1618 of 2022.]

This area is located downstairs from the city terminalin. It is super clean and full of restaurants and shopping. Again very clean and orderly. Buy your bus or train tickets and board the train here. The Information booth staff is very helpful and will answer questions about getting around the city.

It was a classic designed of a train station and reminded me of New York City's Grand Central - but at a much smaller scale. There were plenty of stores for all your needs - including both McDonald's and Burger King. We used this station for both the AirPort Express and travel to southern Sweden/Denmark - and we had no problem finding our tracks/platform.

This is quite the hub! It may seem overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it...it is quite convenient. All the "lines" go in and out of here and/or nearby...which makes it a tad confusing when something is listed as "Central Station". For instance, if you take the Tram (aka: street car)...the stop is called "Central Station", but it doesn't really come into central station, but rather nearby almost a block away (and it's the end of the line). Arlanda Express comes into Central Station, but is not really in the main building, so if you need to transfer...ask someone where to go. All of the T-Centralen (metro/subway), & train lines stop here, originate here or end here. However, it can be tricky getting from one area to the other if you have to transfer. It can be frustrating and there are maps available, but they are not plentiful. I suggest getting a paper map or downloading the map to your phone. There is a huge board for train travel information, but the platforms are in different areas. I'd suggest getting to know where you need to be in advance of any major train trip (like being on time to go to the airport). It is a historic station and older, growth happens and they've tried their best to keep any public transportation nearby for the easiest access possible while maintaining the historic building in all its glory. Moreover, there are bus lines available as well which are obviously out on the street. All this said, there are normally plenty of staff members around and they are a wealth of information and they are super friendly! Any staff member is more than happy to help you find your way with any of the public transportation methods and/or any combo...just tell them where you are going and they will not only tell you the best way to get there, but tell you the best way to get back as well. All this said, it takes a few days to learn it, but once you do...you'll wonder why there was ever an issue and you'll see how easy it is to use. As for the station itself...it is beautiful! Look up and around...it truly is a beautiful building inside and out. Here and there, there is art in the tunnels to the trains, on the platforms, etc. There are plenty of restaurant options, convenience stores, coffee shops, etc. if you have a layover or are staying in the area and need to grab something before getting on or off the train, etc. I personally enjoyed the station because it was near our hotel and I could just pop in and it seemed like I could always find what I was looking for due to the variety of stores. There is plenty of seating if you have a layover or need to find a place to hang out after checking out of your hotel before catching your train or whatever. You must pay to use the bathroom here. Sometimes the wait can be long, so plan accordingly. As for parking...I have no clue!

Stockholms Centralstation is most likely the first place tourists will visit in Stockholm because it serves as the central point for the Arlanda Express, which is the main service connecting the city centre from Arlanda (ARN) airport - due to the fact that all railway tracks around the airport are owned by one company - the expensive yet still well run Arlanda Express does have a monopoly on the market. This station is pretty huge and has multiple levels and lifts meaning it can be pretty hard to navigate at first with so many different entrances and floors - it also doesn't help that this station also consists of many smaller stations, some of which are below it including Stockholm City Station which provides services on Stockholm Commuter Rail, this its-self is also below T-Centrallen which is one of the main hubs on the Stockholm Metro system and the main metro station, of course, serving Stockholms Centralstation - the difficulty navigating the station can be shown by entering opposite the World Trade Centre (where there are multiple bus services at CityTermilaen), having to cut through a newsagents and bar to get onto the main station concourse where you can then connect onto metro or Arlanda Express services. There are two Starbucks locations, one in the main station concourse which is pretty expensive (even for Starbucks in Sweden which is already inflated and overpriced compared to other countries), and there is also a smaller store in T-Centrallen (metro station) The staff at the information desk seemed helpful enough - but some of them did direct me to the SL information desk at the metro connection between the two stations, and I don't understand why with SL basically operating the station they weren't much help. The layout of the station could also be improved too as a broken-down lift at bridge level meant the only way I could get out of the station was by connecting onto a different lift altogether at the metro part of the station - again the staff were very unhelpful and I ended up having to go to a different station on the metro altogether to get out because it was so hard to find - again causing more problems, but that's a different review! The location for this station can't be faulted and it does have some good services throughout the stations located inside it but the layout for me is just too complex and confusing with the staff not being able to assist as well as they should - Stockholms Centralstation actually consists of two parts and it just doesn't work, especially with the vast difference of beauty and infrastructure between the main hall and other parts of the station too which are like going from watching Manchester City FC to Accrington Stanley. 2* mainly for the difficulty in being able to navigate the station and with over 200,000 daily visitors you'd expect better from this place which is virtually unavoidable as it has the only connection to ARN via the Arlanda Express with the extra star just for offering that service, the beauty of the main hall and location of the station.

Wow, its huge! Free Wi-FI is awesome but having to pay for the rest room is kind of a turn off. The massive number of comings and going can be a bit confusing. It seems all types of trains meet up here: local commuter, subway like, and even a line directly from the airport. There is plenty to do, see, and eat in the station itself so you don't have to worry too much. On the ground floor, you can find a tourist information place which can provide maps, directions, and advice.

A very central station that is easy to get to, and a good point of reference when traveling or meeting up with people. The 3 color lines all stop at this station at some point. The station is not the most intuitive to navigate when you first arrive; it wasn't immediately obvious to me where some of the platforms were (sometimes you need to go down and then up again to get to certain platforms), but when I asked an employee at the station, they were happy to help. There is signage in English in addition to Swedish. If you're in town a few days and plan to use public transport a lot, it might be worth it to get a 24- or 72-hour travel card. There is a kiosk at this station where you can buy 24-hour cards (screen can be viewed in English) but I didn't see a 72-hour purchase option at the kiosk so I bought it from the attendant in person for 240 krona. The attendant was very kind; she gave me a map with my travel card and later, when she was going off-duty and noticed me hanging out in the corner (I was waiting to meet a friend), she checked in on me to make sure I didn't need help with anything else. I was able to use my American bank card to buy the travel card without issues. All the staff I encountered were fluent in English. The station was reasonably clean and an effort had been made to make the station aesthetically pleasing; there was art on the walls and I saw an escalator lit up with rainbow lights. There were some construction areas cordoned off related to some commuter lines due to open in a few months I believe. Overall, a good, useful metro station.

'Ello chaps! Stockholm Central Station is the hub of all rail and travel activity in downtown Stockholm. There is continuous train service, and the station has many shops and restaurants. Only thing lacking are sufficient signs, like much of Stockholm. It can be very easy to get turned around and oriented.

There's only one reason i like this station: Arlanda express. 20 min to and from the station. It doesnt get much better than that. Sure it's the hub to the rest of the area and there's tons of food, bustling and semi seedy elements too. However convenience of transport os key and this is where it all happens

The Arlanda Express train is quite expensive (640 SEK RT for a single rider), but it's more…read moreconvenient in terms of time table compared to the other train options which come less often. Also if you're flying from Terminal 5, you save some time from walking to the transit hub at Terminal 4. Essentially as soon as you exit Terminal 5 baggage claim, you walk directly to where it says Arlanda Express, and take the lift up and you're on your way to Central Station. If you're traveling with multiple people, make sure you buy your tickets together because they offer a multi passenger discount. I flew by myself so I didn't get to utilize this discount... next time! There's no assigned seating (it's open seating!), so just hop on and find a seat (and a place for your bags). It saves time from having to find a specific train car or assigned seat. At Central Station, Arlanda Express operates from Spår 1 & 2. There's quite a bit of gravel outside the station, so I recommend walking inside the station vs dragging it through the gravel outside. Time and distance is the same. I flew SAS, so when I returned to Arlanda, I took the escalators up to the side that said Departures. Follow the signs up, and you'll reach the check-in counter directly in front of the escalators for SAS. Fast Track are to the right of the escalator, for those who don't have any bags. Pretty convenient if I might say! All in all, it took me about 40-45 minutes to complete my journey from Central Station to the SAS check-in counters & Fast Track. So while I paid an arm and a leg for Arlanda Express, it was very convenient since I didn't have to walk too much to get to/from Stockholm. It was nice that at T5, it literally drops you off right at the SAS check in area. Given the high price point, I give it a solid 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 stars. If the price can be cheaper, I'd definitely give it a higher rating.

OK, like many these days, I am watching my money. And coming in from the Stockholm airport,…read moreespecially if you have a monthly pass, it is cheaper to take the bus to Marsta and then the commuter train. But that takes longer and boy was it crowded yesterday. I had already contacted Arlanda Express because I will not be turning on my phone here. Why pay for all those telemarketers to annoy me. I'm older and accessing these QR codes scare me and I wanted to know if I could get a paper ticket. Yes but only here at the machines in Stockholm. Arlanda Express is quick to respond to your questions. This is the only way to go if you are jetlagged because of delayed and cancelled flights. There are 3 stops. Two at the airport and one at Central Station. Your other choice, the commuter train, can and yesterday was, packed like sardines. We couldn't even make it out the door and had to go to the next step and circle back. We are very familiar with Stockholm but you will find, for us non Swedish speakers, that the commuter train announcements and stations are worded slightly different than expected. Plus you have to walk to get it and walk and wait at the train station whereas Arlanda Express is right there AT the airport. It was COLD yesterday. On the return trip, I am spending the extra money for a more predictable trip. 18 minutes from Central Station. There are discounts for 2 or more paying normal price. Cheaper than a cab or ride share. And cheaper than an overnight stay at an airport hotel. But keep in mind that it only goes to Stockholm Central. That is fine if you are staying nearby. But even if you arent, Central Station has all the very good subway lines to transfer to. We were going to Sodermalm and I thought my initial commuter train was smart because once I got on it, it would take me to the part of town that I was staying, cheaper. At 24 hours awake, I have now learned to spend the extra few bucks on the faster less confusing option.

Peace Of Mind When Trying To Catch Your Flight…read morehttps://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/taxi-stockholm-15-00-00-stockholm-2?select=OYlkopPH5VCs7TBVZ-YnAQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w SITREP We just disembarked from Royal Caribbean's "Serenade of the Seas" at one of Stockholm's Cruise Liner Ports of Entry. We were not the only cruise shop disembarking either. Imagine the logistical nightmare this can be when trying to get to another destination - this time an airport - within a specific time frame to make your flight. THE SETUP Unfortunately, we find out at the last minute as we are disembarking that Royal Caribbean Customer Service really dropped the ball on hundreds of us passengers when their system "disappeared", "lost", "screwed up" (take your pick) our final destination transportation plans to get us either back to downtown Stockholm and/or to the airport to catch flights. So there we are: we've just arrived at the Frihamnscaféet port terminal, and are trying to locate & grab our luggage, find our loved ones and friends in order to figure our transportation detail. ALTERNATIVES For those who did not make plans - or had theirs botched - it's difficult enough, like herding cats trying to find your ride (anywhere) with thousands of people in the terminal, at the curb, in the streets trying to locate your pre-made rides (if those were set-up correctly). Imagine if you are then stuck trying to secure a ride. *CABBIES & VANS: The port is some dozen miles or so outside of Downtown Stockholm. Cabbies and vans usually are only going to the port if they already have a patron reservation made in advance (and this is where Royal Caribbean dropped the ball on us because our reservations were not processed by the front desk as we had communicated to their agents, in person; * BUS: Only about $5 U.S., but the nearest bus stop is more than a mile away - imagine those in your party with two or three suitcases trying to make it down the street, and THEN deal with that on the bus. [That's how I actually got to the port with my one roller suitcase, which wasn't a big deal, but walking through half the harbor was a chore with it.] But the Port is basically on the other side of downtown Stockholm, so the buses come back to the downtown Stockholm "Central Station", where you then have to jump another $10 bus ride to get to the airport which is about another 20 miles out. Or you can catch a $15 bus that goes straight from Central Station to the airport. So at this point, you in at least about $15-$20, and anywhere between two (2) to three (3) hours transit, just to get to the airport. TAXI STOCKHOLM 15 Another international passenger gave us the recommendation to call Taxi Stockholm 15. As it turned out, a Taxi Stockholm 15 cabbie was going to be there in 20 minutes after they dropped off another cruise passenger on a nearby line's pier. RIDE METRICS: * The fee to go DIRECTLY to the airport was $125, but split between the five (5) of us worked out to $25 each; * The cabbie flagged us at the curb where he stopped and we saw him immediately since we recognized his taxi logo; https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/taxi-stockholm-15-00-00-stockholm-2?select=OYlkopPH5VCs7TBVZ-YnAQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w * The car was big enough for 5 passengers (out of nine; four in our group were staying in Stockholm another 2 days) and all of our luggage; and most importantly; https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/taxi-stockholm-15-00-00-stockholm-2?select=sTxVf6s3m_1me5MrDJlDUQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w * We made it to the airport within 20 minutes, which meant that ALL of us would make our flights with plenty of time to make it through Security, through Passport Control, and even catch a quick snack. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/taxi-stockholm-15-00-00-stockholm-2?select=AD7dbcWTjFZposclfUBGJA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE LOWDOWN Much obliged to Taxi Stockholm 15 for putting our minds at ease and getting us to the airport without any attendant-incidents associated to being late. The bus is perhaps not as fast as tube combined with Arlanda Express or as a taxi but it is on the other hand cheaper so it can remain a good option and it often runs every 15 minutes so a better option than the commuter trains (that run every half-hour and are notoriously unreliable). I often use it when it is not rush hour (as the traffic then makes it take too long) as the price is also reasonable (99 SEK one way if bough online or in the app, otherwise 119 SEK, or 945 SEK for 10 trips ). They have free wifi on-board, it is perhaps not super-fast but still works.
