And when a little boy too scared to enter gym to sit on bench with team or play in game with spectators for first several games, he went out to parent's car and convinced little boy to take the hand of a giant and not only got him to sit on bench but to take to court by walking behind him as his "protector". This extra effort made a difference in my son's life. Not only did my son play in games for rest of season, he played several more years at Giant Basketball Academy. Flagstar provides an important outlet for kids to be able to play sports. However, I have serious…read moreconcerns about their attitude towards player safety. This is a flag football league, meaning contact and dangerous plays should be minimized. A few instances have arisen that point out gaps in their rules that allow dangerous play to go on. For example, a player that jumps and kicks his legs at others' faces is not doing anything illegal unless he makes contact. Other players naturally try to avoid being kicked. Which is why high kicks are banned in most flag football leagues (as well as in soccer, where there's a legitimate reason to kick a leg out). It's normal for rules to miss some situations and need to be revised, but when I pointed out the problem to the league, they did not care. I've encountered this attitude towards player safety one too many times to keep my kids in the league. I'll be looking for other opportunities for them to play.
