Joined in a few times for public skate. Today's experience was not good given the attitude of the older woman (short curly grayish hair) working the main counter. Her attitude was not pleasant. I ordered multiple tickets online well in advance and she seemed to get an attitude about not being able to find them at first. I offered to give her the invoice number or show her my online purchase. Her first immediate response was I purchase them for a different day. The second interaction was this same woman proceeded to charge at the main rink door yelling at kids and parents that they are not allowed to use the red "helper" walker things. She told my kids that she's too big. Then the older child in my group, she proceeded to tell her to give her the red thing. Her attitude was tone was aggressive and inappropriate. Management needs to take note of her terrible customer service. Perhaps if she is having a bad day at work, she should stay home. The food business was friendly. The food was service was quick and the fries were yummy. The young man handing out the skates was friendly. read more

I have been to a couple fundraiser hockey games here over the last few months. Plenty of seating in the stands and room to stand around the rink on the glass. Although itnalways has a long line and slow service, they do have a concession stand. I have never skated here but it seems to be a great place to hold charity hockey games and support a large crowd. read more

Piney Orchard Ice Arena - Skating Rinks Near Me - Odenton, Maryland

This was a really disappointing experience. My son and I are visiting my parents from out of town and figured it would be nice to get some ice-time in while we were here. We came to the 2-4pm public session on Wednesday, 7/19. I grew up playing hockey at the Columbia Ice Rink, but they're closed for the summer. I remember when Clay Carr opened the Piney Orchard Rink, and I was excited to skate here again after so long away. My son and I each tried on multiple pairs of skates, and we were unable to find a single pair that had even a usable edge on the blade. Because the pro shop was closed, there was no one available to sharpen the skates, so we decided to get a refund and call it a wash. When I mentioned to the manager that it was unsafe to have skates so dull that even someone like me who's been skating for most of their life can't use them, she simply said, "Okay," and retreated back to her office. I get that it's a Wednesday afternoon in the middle of summer, but that is no excuse for the dull skates or the attitude of the manager. Next time we come to town, we'll definitely bring our own skates, and we'll find another rink to use them. read more

at about 2:15pm on 7/19/23, i had a very disappointing experience. my dad and i are visiting family here from florida, and we usually like to skate every wednesday at our local rink. we didn't bring our skates, but assumed it would be okay to rent at whatever rink we came to here. we were sorely mistaken. registering online was incredibly tedious, but we eventually got it figured out. once we arrived, there was a woman working who seemingly wanted nothing to do with us. she eventually took us to the rental area, and after trying on several pairs in both of our sizes, not a single skate has even the slightest edge. some of the blades were completely destroyed as if they had been used on concrete. we tried to step on the ice, hoping we could at least skate a little, but it was impossible to find an edge. Now, i am not a professional by any means, but i know how to skate pretty well. These skates made it feel like i had never stepped on the ice in my life. it was borderline dangerous how difficult it was to even move 5 feet. we asked the woman at the front desk if anyone could sharpen any of the skates, and she claimed not a single person there knows how to work a sharpener. i found this very disheartening for two reasons: 1: the idea that nobody who works there knows how to sharpen ice skates is deeply concerning. 2: someone there most likely does know how to, but simply didn't feel like it. we then asked for our money back, and the woman said she would get her manager. the general manager then comes out of her office and says she'll refund it. we tried to explain to her what had happened, and she could not have been more disinterested in anything we were saying. the entire time we were trying to talk to her, she was talking over us saying "okay, bye. okay, bye. okay, bye." we eventually left, and needless to say, will not return. my dad and i were both very excited to skate here, but unfortunately, that did not happen. i hope that someone there will consider how dangerous and hazardous it is to have skates that bad, but until then, i would recommend finding a different ice rink. read more

Ok this rink is more of the local community hockey rink found in the heart of Odenton. It's smaller than Laurel/The Gardens, but it's got what you need. They offer figure skating, hockey, lessons, public sessions etc. They also have a pro shop that was quiet helpful with my new hockey skates. (Their prices are better than Laurel). The place is much smaller and so are their ammenities, but works for me. Pick up hockey in the morning (Thursday) was kinda quiet and bunch of arrogant high schoolers, I think I may find an adult league that is more for recreation. But good, good rink, quaint and helpful. read more

This ice rink is okay I guess, but only cause like no one comes there during the week and I get the ice to myself. On weekends it's crowded and the workers skating around in the ice are annoying and incompetent. Seems like they don't even work there. They just skate around with their friends not paying attention to anyone else. Specifically, they don't help kids up if they fall or crash into each other. At my ice rink in San Diego, the employees skating on the ice would make sure there were no accidents and if there was they were on top of it. I would give this place less stars if it wasn't for the free ice during the week. Without that I'd probably give this rink 1 star. #sorrynotsorry Also their public skating is expensive! read more

It's not a bad rink but to sit there and charge 25$ for Stick and puck, that's right 25$ for stick and puck it's a total ripoff. As someone who plays at Columbia for years and Columbia only charges 11$ for stick and pick that is just outrageous. I can understand that it's summer and that ice time gets expensive, but 25 bucks for stick and puck???? No thanks.. read more

Piney orchard ice arena is a family fun atmosphere especially because of the Maryland Black Bears games. The level of play is very high in skill as they play out of the North American Hockey League, the second highest junior hockey league in the United States. The only reason im giving this review a 4 star is because of the overpriced stick and pucks and the unattentive staff. Other than that its a great hockey environment. The youth hockey program is awesome there too! read more

This is just about Ice Skating Lessons: totally useless. I enrolled my 4 and 6 year old in group ice skating lessons. Again, totally useless. They used "older" girls to teach my kids - not an instructor. In my girls' case the "older girl" was probably 7 or 8. Sweet kid but totally screwed up my kids. After 7 lessons they could barely stand on skates. I told the managment about it and got greeted with a yawn. I finally pulled the plug. My 6 year old I taught in two lessons to skate. My four year old was so turned off by the lessons with the 8 year old (wet, cold, sitting on ice) she refuses to go near the ice. Their sister operation in Bowie is a lot better organized. Don't waste your money on "ice skating lessons" at Piney Orchard. Total waste of money. read more

Hockey is a sports with loyal fans but is a small minority when compared to football, basketball or baseball. Let's face it, all you need is an opened field and not a whole lot of equipment to play those popular sports, but with hockey, you need a bunch of expensive equipment and an ice rink. Glad to see this place with an all year ice rink. Opened to the public for ice skating, but also set up for ice skating practice and yes, ice hockey games and practices. I use to practice and play hockey games in here. Brings up some memories. For those of you new to the area, this also use to be the practice home of the Washington Capitals until Leonsis bought the team and felt that Maryland was beneath him and moved the training facilities to Virginia. I miss seeing the free practices and even talking to a Capital every once in a while. read more

I almost never write a poor review for anyone but when I experience a complete apathetic attitude in customer service I feel I have to say something. I've been going to this ice rink consistently for a year and a half for my 5 year old son's hockey lessons. The hockey lessons that are run independently of the ice rink are top notch and I highly recommend them. The management of the ice rink is a different story. Today I brought my son for free skate. We paid just over $17 for the two of us (he already has ice skates, I don't). I got my son in his skates and we skated for three minutes (not exaggerating) when he took a bad fall directly onto his face. It was such a bad fall that I was testing him for a concussion for the rest of the day. When I asked the front desk (who had just seen us 5 minutes earlier when we paid) as we were leaving with my son clutching his face in agony if it were possible to get a refund since we were only on the ice for three minutes she said "no". I told her "it's just that he fell directly onto his face and we can't stay" she said "oh sorry". What I heard though is "we don't care if you ever come back to our establishment". read more
