Kevin helped us on a bedroom remodeling project. Communication was crisp, he come up with estimate and project went smooth. He managed all hurdles, delivered result in a nice & smooth manner. Worksite was constantly clean. Materials were picked by Kevin, I just did Venmo for them. Work conducted on the project: - Window preparation for drywall installation, we had a nasty metallic mesh around it; - Insulation with different type of materials; - Reconstruction of missing piece for ceiling - Wall level correction - Drywall installation on walls and ceiling; - Mud, tape, sanding. This is not a review and the one star rating is too generous but required to post this warning to homeowners - if you expect quality work and professionalism - do not use Kevin Ice. The pictures of the bathroom remodel in Franklin Park he posted without our permission are misrepresented and false advertising of a job well done. Our bathroom looked better before he ever stepped foot in it. Were were left with a plumbing issue that we had to resolve and the shoddy installation of trim is to cover unsightly drywall and plaster that was left exposed as a result of him installing drywall over existing drywall. Kevin carelessly damaged all the existing hardwood in the room and even re-installed the window frame as a base board! When we told him we were unhappy with the job and needed the mistakes to be rectified, he colored in scratches in the hardwood with a marker and now the door won't even close. One of the fixtures he installed has fallen off the wall and we are still cleaning up the mess that he so rudely left in our home. We have hired many local small business contractors to complete work in our home and have never experienced such incompetency and unprofessionalism - I had to reach out to Kevin on separate occasions to confirm when he was showing up to work and when he did, he wouldn't even have the proper tools and materials to do the job - he even asked to use our tools in some instances. We refuse to pay the remainder of the deposit for incomplete and unacceptable work that we will have to invest more of our time and money to return our bathroom to a presentable condition. Kevin received a 50% deposit in advance for work that a real contractor would never consider acceptable and he continues to harass and threaten us. One of the biggest mistakes we ever made was trusting that Ice Handy Man Services is a legitimate and reputable contractor and I hope anyone reading this heeds this warning. read more

Our upstairs shower began flooding through the ceiling on the first floor. We contacted Kevin, and he came over to assess the problem. He recommended re-grouting the shower, and then once the leak was fixed, repairing the drywall in the first floor ceiling. He gave us a quick and reasonable quote, and we made arrangements for him to return the following week to accomplish the task. The following week, he arrived on time. He worked quickly to do the grout work, and then came back a few days later to begin the drywall work. The job required multiple trips in order to let the plaster dry between sandings When he was done, my bathroom looked like new, and the first floor ceiling is perfect. Kevin worked very hard but the doors he was working on proved to be more than he could handle. The storm door was put in at an angle (latch on left side of frame goes in about an inch farther than the hinge right side) and the front door handle hits the storm door handle so I am unable to close the screen door. I have it pried open which isn't acceptable for the duration. He suggested I get a different latch and I'm going to try that but they look cheap compared to what I have now. The door is very hard to close and you have to push it in while locking deadbolt. Something I specifically didn't want. I would give him an A for effort but the end result fell far too short. I've asked for half of the $400 back. I feel it's the right thing to do. I'll update my review after it's resolved. Im probably going to have to purchase a new door and have a door expert install it. Doors are much trickier than you'd think. read more

I found him to be dismissive to a job we scheduled for an elderly woman. The quote was reasonable, but when it came time to have the job done, it never happened. We booked the job for one day, at his request was rescheduled for the day before, he called to cancel 2 hours before because he was stuck in traffic, rescheduled for the next day, and on the day, was canceled because he took another job. read more

I hired Kevin to renovate the kitchen and bathroom in one of my units. He and his crew completed the demo work, installed the flooring, wall tile, kitchen cabinets, etc. He was courteous, professional, and very communicative throughout the entire process, giving me updates on his progress every day (e.g., sending me pictures of the work that was completed each day, updating me via text or phone call). Whenever I had an issue or question, I could always count on him to respond promptly. As with every big project, there were issues that needed some creative thinking. He meticulously researched how to solve the problems and took great care to complete the work. He was thorough, detail-oriented and did a great job, especially with laying the wall and floor tile in the bathroom and kitchen. He also kept the worksite as clean and organized as can be.
