Some reviews here sound like disgruntled breeders who are in direct competition with Idaho Jewel. I have owned a dog from this breeder for several years now and I am about to get a 2nd dog. My Ruby has the best disposition of any dog I have had, and i have owned and rescued many. Sweet, loving, smart, I couldn't have asked for a better dog. This is NOT a puppy mill. I bought my little girl in 2007 and had her flown to Denver. She was healthy and beautiful and grew to the 4# adult weight Julie predicted. She was one of my two heart dogs and an absolute delight her entire life. She passed in January. I miss her every day. Having "found" this breeder's web site online, I fell in love with Piper the minute I saw her picture. I'd been contemplating getting a puppy housemate for about two years... there she was! Immediately, contact was made with Idaho Jewels Poodles (IJP) & arrangements made for her purchase, travel to Colorado. About a week or so later on a Saturday afternoon, Gracie (her forever name) arrived & I picked her up at the airport. From the second I took her out of her carrier & headed to my car, she began heaving, coughing & choking. This distressing behavior continued with both frequency & severity that we saw a vet on Monday morning. Four weeks, four vets, five prescription medications, xrays, internal medicine specialist & almost $1,000 later, Gracie is still heaving, coughing & choking, with slightly less frequency. I've requested of this breeder a refund of my purchase price for an obviously unhealthy puppy. Whether hereditary, congenital, environmental, whatever... Gracie did NOT pick up this as-yet-undiagnosed condition on a 2 hour plane trip! IJP owners/breeders were offered the opportunity to write the ending & control the star rating of this review. I have not personally bought directly from Idaho Jewels, but I bought a breeding adult female standard poodle from someone who bought from Julie. This dog ended up having puppies with flat coats and luxated patellas. I bought another puppy from a stud coming from Idaho Jewels and he also developed a luxated patella. I wrote to Julie and she said she had never experienced this before. I find that hard to believe. Breeders should fully test and not hide their heads in the sand when a problem arises. Be careful when dealing with her dogs. I have another friend who has a mini poodle from her and she is a wonderful girl. read more

I got my little girl Winnie (formerly Kourtney) back in May. I LOVE her. I could tell within the first few hours I had her that she came from a good breeder. She's very well adjusted. Unfortunately I wasn't able to pick her up on my own due to COVID so I used the nanny service. Next time I hope to visit but I was very pleased with the communication with the nanny service and Idaho jewels. I was in contact with the nanny from beginning to end. I can't tell you how grateful I am for my little girl. She is a great companion and VERY popular at the dog park. I can't recommend Idaho jewels enough for the quality. These guys should NOT be breeding, I paid a high price for a sick dog that has bad genetics. They told me that he had good genetic lines and he has some of the worst genetic lines that I've seen. If you decide to buy a dog from these guys make them show you proof of all genetic testing for the parents. I'll be dealing with a sick dog for the rest of his life. read more

About a year ago I came across their page. I had been wanting a puppy for a long time and I saw Dynamite who's forever name is now Bruno. I cannot thank Julli enough for giving me this blessing. Bruno has become my best friend and I can't picture myself without him. I first claimed Bruno and then made arrangements to go pick him up. I live in Wyoming so it wasn't too far a drive. When I arrived they had me meet them in a shed like area outside of the home. They went to grab Bruno from inside the home. I found it a bit strange that they didn't let me see other puppies but it makes sense since I only expressed interest in Bruno. After reading reviews I do agree it was a bit strange and felt off but I had a positive experience and ended up with my forever best friend. read more

We just got a sweet little girl 12 days ago. We have had 4 vet visits since then. One was just a check up with 48 hours of having her. She has a double ear infection so we put her on ear meds and cleaning routine. The next day I had to take in a stool sample as she wasn't eating and was having messy stool. She has giardia. Of course I did email the breeder and was told that all of it was in the contract and asked if I did the insurance they require. Then again took her in to double check the ear infection 7 days afterwards, only 8 1/2 days after we got her. The one ear was so bad that they had to schedule to put her under anesthesia to clean it out. It was matted with gunk but they got it out and put meds in. We have another appointment in 2 weeks to double check that. We stopped feeding her the food the breeder pushes as 2 different vets I checked with stated it was not tested but formulated and to go with something that has been tested. In the one week that she has actually been eating the new food, she gained over a pound, she is NOT getting fat just healthy. Thank goodness I don't have any other animals that she could give it too and I am getting it cleared up. Research shows that giardia is something that comes from stagnant water and animals getting into other animals feces. All of this also resulted in a doctor visit for my 5 year old son ... in which I was told that giardia is not something she would have passed on to him within a few days. However another bill. I've recently dealt with the owner of Idaho Jewels Poodles and was at her place of business and can honestly say that I don't understand some of these reviews. It's hard to believe they were talking about the same place and person that I've experienced. Julie was helpful, informative, very responsive and one of the nicest and most understanding people I've come to know. We went over to this breeders to look at a Yorkshire terrier puppy. First as you walk into the dirty house, the smell of hormones hits you.. Like a lot of females in heat, and a lot of males getting busy.. it wreaked. Supposedly she "didn't know the birth weight because she only had had the puppy for 4 weeks because it's a family business and her Aunt bred this pup in Utah." Then I asked to see the parents and she brings out 2 dogs.. So did the parents come up with the pup? She also breeds all different sizes of poodles.. that are rude, untrained, and not healthy. They had one poodle male out that has a damaged eye, and it looked gross.. They also had a miniature poodle stud in the puppy pen with 2 poodle puppies and this yorkie puppy. They let all of them out. The poodles were all over me, and were skin and bone, and the yorkie, ran off to a corner, when it came over, it was more filled out, but none of the puppies were healthy... Definetly NOT socialized like she said. She also said this puppy was 12 weeks. NO way. She also says they are vet checked at 6 weeks, and wormed and have had shots.. The bad feelings just got worse and worse the longer we were there. The puppy was cute.. but we had a bad feeling. You could hear dogs whining down the hall, in bedrooms, and you could hear them rattling cages.. You could see cages in the family room stacked up and they were full. When you walked past the garage you could hear even more dogs.. And even more in a shed.. NOT to mention the large poodles in the front yard that were barking and almost jumping over the fence. It broke our hearts to leave the puppy in such a place. But I couldn't fathom supporting this puppy miller. It was a puppy mill in the truest sense in my honest opinion.. I don't know how they do their AKC, they have NOT been inspected by AKC for sure.. read more

Erik Jordan in the last week I have had the wonderful opportunity to have extended periods of time spent with Julie and her family. Each puppy that is born under her roof is carefully taken care of and dutifully watched over and given their shots to help them stay healthy. I honestly don't know anyone better to buy a Puppy from as she is one of the kindest and fair people I've had the pleasure to meet. Other reviews have said that their puppies got sick. I brought this up with Julie and she was very honest. There have been difficult times but every time she redoubles her efforts to keep these puppies safe and health. I'm not sure if anyone understands the kind of effort she puts in every exhausting day. She is amazing and I would buy a puppy from here in a HeartBeat again, even knowing everything I do now. read more
