Whenever we visit Idaho Falls we always check out Idaho Mountain Trading - love a good local gear shop! They have it all, from snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, longboarding, camping, attire, bags, shoes and everything in between. They have a solid sale section as well and clothing for women, men and children. As most gear shops, the prices reflect quality and lean towards the moderate to expensive side, but that's less IMT and more the general gear, but again solid sale sections and not above normal market cost. Though we have a pretty solid collection of gear we have accumulated over the years, we will get a few small items when we visit, as we always seem to find some cool pieces, including my favorite fleece coal baseball cap! The team is always friendly and offers assistance and greeting upon entering. Will continue to enjoy out periodic visits! read more

I went here looking for a bike. My usual posts are about eateries, but I made an exception this time to note the level of professionalism I experienced here. I'm a fan of supporting local business, this one's been here for as long as I've been alive, and I kind of can see why. They've outlasted many sports stores for the simple fact that they're just better at what they do. I went here, looking to spend 4 or 5 hundred on a new bicycle. I wanted something to get me around town, and to work and home. Just a road bike I could use from point A to B. Walking in, I was met with the typical indifference of people behind a counter. I don't know what it is about retail associates, but once they have a counter between you and them, you cease to exist. Fortunately, there was a Sale's associate named Grayson who greeted me almost right away. I can't say enough nice things about this guy. He asked me what I was looking for, had knowledgeable information to find the right thing I needed, and walked me through the buying process with great ease and professionalism. I was looking to spend 4-500, but ended up plonking down an extra 200 on a bike I've enjoyed every day the weather's allowed (and even a few that it didn't). read more

I was greeted by Grayson who shared a few unsolicited-and-amazing hiking recommendations that truly made my trip so much more special. I'm so grateful I found this shop and met him. The folks in there are knowledgeable and genuine and won't steer you wrong. Also, everyone in there was wearing masks and even offered to provide them if you don't have one on-hand. I spoke to Danny about repairing my brakes on my Cannondale Jekyll. He quickly ordered in the brake pads and will repair it tomorrow. I had tried another shop in town, and waited weeks. I picked it up and took it to mountain trading. Mountain Trading was going to fix it the same day; however, they had to order in the brake pads. With that being said, they are getting it all done in days vs. weeks at their cometitior. Thank you guys. I am ready to ride!!! read more

Wow. Ok. My partner grew up here and loves going to this store. They were stoked to show it to me, and since we've been on a 3 week bike touring trip, we were ready to drop some serious dime on some essentials and non-essentials. It didn't really register too much when we were walking around for the first twenty minutes without anyone addressing us or asking if we needed anything. We were getting ready to check out- when we finally got someone's attention to do so, and my partner realized they had forgotten their wallet in the car. The dude at the register asked if I was ready, so I said just that. "They went to get their wallet from the car." Here was his opportunity to say nothing, but surprise surprise, this dude just had to add his two cents. "They? That's plural. Are there two of them? Do they have multiple personalities? Wow, I can't wait to meet both of them." No matter where you are on the "I can't respect people's pronouns because I don't think they are grammatically correct" fence if you are in customer service, maybe just shut your mouth, smile, and take my money. Do not shop here. Homophobic, transphobic, absolute assholes. I cannot believe it. read more

I am new to town and wanted to check out the local shops down town. While I wasn't blown away by the amount of goods, I was blown away with the culture of the store. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and not pushy or what I like to call "fake-nice", where the employees are just being nice because that is there job. Everyone was just pleasant. There selection while not huge but had all top quality brands and items. I am big into snowboarding and was impressed by the selection and brands of board they have in stock. They are having a great sale right now where you can by a top-of-the-line board at an intermediate-boards price some where even in the beginner boards range. There clothing selection was also top notch and at an affordable price. When I have a few spare bucks to spend, I know where I am going for some hiking shoes and a coat. UPDATE 01/26/19 We got into cross country skiing and my skis are a little old (try like 20 years). I had no idea what type they were and how to care for them. While skiing the snow would glomerate onto the bottom of the ski. So I took in one of the ski's to get some advice. Ends up I needed a spray on the bottom. They didn't have any in store, so they gave me some from their wax shop (I had to pay but it was a fair price). I've been to many outdoor shops and never has one been so accommodating. WE LOVE THIS PLACE. Can never say enough good things about it. We've gotten climbing gear here, running/trail shoes, a bike! The employees always know what they're talking about, never pressure you to buy, but have you try on what they believe is a best fit for you. I've loved the running shoes I've gotten here and I won't ever go back to another running shoe, thanks to their advice. We will always buy gear here while we live in South Eastern Idaho. We had been looking for bicycles for a while now and it seemed like everywhere we shopped at was either overpriced or snooty about the type of bicycles one should buy. This place caught my attention within hours of moving to Idaho Falls. I was helped very quickly by a friendly staffer and the whole experience was easy and comfortable. I found just what I needed and was also pleasantly surprised to find they have a stash of real wool hiking socks available for use when trying on boots and shoes. Excellent idea! There's no other way to know just how a boot should fit without the right socks. I'm happy I stopped by and will definitely go back. read more

I enjoy going to the store, the sales staff have always been nice and polite and answered my questions the best they could. I like the store as a whole but am dissapointed with the lack of help I recieved from "Lefty" in the service department. I needed a pair of skis tuned for the season and made the drive to Idaho Falls, 50 miles one way for me. I headed back to the service counter at 10:12 am and asked about a tune. me: Hey Im only in town for the day would it be possible to get these tuned by 6:00 when you guys close? Lefty: Yeah dude that is NOT gonna happen! me: (Puzzled by his rudeness) Well I live 50 miles from here and its a hard for me to come back to get them. Could you just take them and see if you guys can squeeze them in. Lefty: Like I said its NOT gonna happen.....so NO! Lefty then walked away from the counter. I was pissed. There's four guys tuning skis and six pair on the rack waiting to get tuned. They could have worked them in by the end of the day. I was mad enough I had to leave the store. I took care of the business I had in Idaho Falls and checked the internet for other options in the area..none. So I was left with two options, get them tuned in Jackson or wherever I travel to ski next, or go back to the store. I went back to the service counter and good for me, Lefty was helping someone else with a new pair of snowboard boots. I got help from Chad, (super cool guy btw) When I repeated my situation to Chad explaining that I needed to come back on my next day off and pick them up, Chad replied " Too bad you didn't have them here this morning we could have done them today." I then looked over at "Lefty" as he laughed, and tossed two cardboard packing inserts from the snowboard boots 6" from my head. I ducked and then told him exactly how I felt about him and his attitude. He strolled past me back into the service area chuckling. IMT needs to can this loser. Steer clear of Lefty at all costs! Chad and the older guy, (sorry I can't remember his name) were a great help and seemed to know there stuff. You have been warned. read more

Very poor customer service. We felt taken advantage of and unwanted there. If they really want business then they need to try harder to help their customers be happy. Never returned our phone calls, rushed us off the phone when we would call them and the owners walked away from us multiple times in the store when we were having a conversation.
