This review is for the Highland Bank in Minnetonka on Plymouth Road…read more So, let me just start by agreeing with one of the reoccurring points in many of the other reviews for Highland Bank's various locations (and this one too): They're a little behind the times. From a technology standpoint and as a consequence, from a banking standpoint in general. But in reality, this bank's product offering isn't much different than any other bank. There's free checking (with a minimum balance, direct deposit, or whatever), they have online banking, they have an app. I'm fairly certain that all of their online offerings are understandably 3rd-party systems that they likely just lease. But it's all there and it all works reasonably well. ATM access is comparable to most credit unions (though, they're not a credit union) as they use the same type of network that most of the smaller CUs use. They have very traditional operating hours. (the lobby is closed by 5:00 PM weekdays and not open on weekends) But the drive-up is open for a few hours on Saturday. But guess what? It's all part of what makes this a charming bank. Why does that matter? To some people, it probably doesn't. Some people may not want to step foot in a bank. Some people want to do everything on an app. I'm not one of those people. When I walk into this location to make a deposit to one of my accounts, I'm always greeted warmly and by name, and am thanked when I leave. It's something you may not appreciate when you're a busy 20-something. It never really mattered much to me until recently. Maybe receiving good customer service is an acquired taste -- I'm not sure. But the folks at his location are absolutely top-notch and as long as they're there to provide the excellent service I've received, I'm not going anywhere else. I've not used the lending side of Highland Bank yet, but fully expect the service to be just as professional and friendly as the teller side. If you're not being treated very well at your current bank, please visit the Highland Bank location in Minnetonka and speak to Laura or Debbie about opening an account.

When I reached out to my broker, he mentioned their services have gone down hill drastically and I am not the only client to reach out to him with this negative experience. I called the bank and the first rep told me that it was because all my purchases came out from yesterday and so I exceeded my daily balance. I stated I thought it was 500 a day, this being a new day.. she stated that it is 500 day but it depends whenever the merchants take it out. So I am always going to be in limbo depending on who I buy things from and $500 a day is a lie, if that is the case then why was all the purchases I bought after my $500 declined on the day I was shopping if nothing had came out until the next day... This bank infuriated me. they did offer to extend my limit for that day and between their working hours. they said they would bring it back down at the end of the day, so if by 5 o'clock I did not have all my purchase done,im out of luck until the next day.. meanwhile I have my money just sitting in my acct and I would have to drive to an atm to take money out to use when I have a check card. This by far is one of the top two worst experiences I have ever had from any bank. Extremely inconvenient. Had one of my colleagues tell me the horror they went through trying to order textbooks for class and getting declined after reaching their 300 max even though they had 2,000 sitting in the acct. The latest one involving me being interrogated while sitting on the lobby sofa. The woman (I don't know her name, I guess I wasn't worth the time for an introduction) started our meeting by pointing at me and asking "What do you need?", while I was waiting for a banker (right after drilling another waiting customer as to why he was waiting). What followed was a very brief monologue of "Thats our policy and I don't make the policy." I was there to handle an insurance claim for my vehicle, which is financed by Financial One. Apparently they feel entitled to any insurance payout you receive, and don't care to take the time to even evaluate the situation. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CREDIT UNION. They don't care about you, they don't care about your finances, and they will constantly refer to you as a "non-member" if you don't have a full membership with them. I would rate this credit union a 0 star if Yelp allowed it.

This was very similar to another customer's experience as well. I noticed the way a lead loan officer badmouthed and blamed his assistant in front of me, while the assistant and some other office worker I never met actually handled the communication and paperwork after the initial meeting. That communication was only when they urgently insisted (through unprofessionally worded and formatted emails) that I sign something right away, despite my questions and concerns about the rate and transaction details. They never talked me through options with respect like any customer deserves; instead, they sent the final rate and also charged me extra money to bring the rate down, but they still couldn't actually deliver on the rate they so proudly promised at the beginning. I understand the rates change; it doesn't give loan officers the right to nonchalantly dismiss their customers' questions and lock in a rate without first consulting the customer. They technically performed a task, but they have miles to go to practice respectful customer service, communication, and honesty. You'd best look for mortgage servicing elsewhere until they get their act together.
