It's very conveniently located near lots of shopping, so with the variety of offered class times, it's definitely something I can add into an errand or grocery run. Went to a Saturday morning workout class at the new Legend FIT Gym. There are no "official" signs…read moreup yet, but it's in the building directly next to Snap Fitness. The one hour class was easy to follow for a new comer and you could easier tailor it to your fitness level as almost all of the activities we did were using your own body as resistance. We did a circuit workout with Tabata added in, a term I'd never heard of until my workout. Tabata is a high-intensity style of workout where you do twenty seconds on with ten seconds rest, with about 3-5 rounds of each exercise. I liked that we hit every muscle: legs, arms, backs and added in cardio with laps to start and in between muscle groups. The gym is build to help obstacle course races, so in addition to the circuit workouts they offer, they also offer almost anything you could imagine to train for your upcoming race: rope climbs, monkey bars, wall climbs, an assortment of hanging bars and rings to practice on and much more. If you're looking for a spot to train for your next obstacle course race, I'd definitely recommend Legend FIT Gym. And if you want to test them out before joining, they do offer a one week "trial" for newbies.

So far I've really only been to the locker room and the main lifting area (I'm assuming) on the ground level. The front desk staff has been friendly, and there is a store I want to explore on the right as you walk in (heard good things). It's clear both inside and from the outside that there is much more to the building but that will be for as time progresses. Very much a "lifters" gym due to the vibes, the color palette is fairly dark and muted, primarily consisting of various shades of gray and black with an occasional red accent. On the wall there is a large mural of two bodybuilders, next to a 16 tv array display showcasing the game, or Ronnie Coleman lifting videos. On the floor there is a plethora of equipment, truly anything any lifted would need or even really want. The space is large, and with that packed with equipment while maintaining healthy spacing between pieces, which is very much appreciated. When it gets busy there may be a tad wait for some pieces but that is anywhere, and very reasonable. Staple workout pieces have multiples such racks and benches, and so for those it's fairly unlikely you will have to really wait. The equipment is modern, clean, and seems to be well maintained. The one qualm I have, which very well may be just due to me going later in the day, is the inconsistency of the weights. There are plenty of weights available, but they vary in size/brand/type a lot. Most seem to be iron, but the brands vary so even if the same weight, the sizes vary slightly. Now I don't necessarily mind loading up a bar "asymmetrically", but at the same time it would be kinda nice if I could have matching plates. I understand this is a small and insignificant thing, just one I noticed, and something that could also be very much due to gym goers moving stuff around. If you're going to the gym primarily to lift, I'd likely recommend this gym.

Plates were all over the gym, left on machines, and mixed up on the racks. It made finding the weight you needed more of a pain than it should have been. If I lived in the area, I'm not sure I'd be a member here. I also don't think I'd recommend others join the gym for this reason. But as a destination gym while traveling, it's definitely worth grabbing a one-day pass and getting a workout in. Good gym with great equipment, they just need to get a handle on keeping the weights organized.

Couple that with 24/7 access, a well-below typical price for a specialized gym such as this one, and a great group of people who train here and you have the best gym north of the Triangle hands down. OHM Fitness is coming to Cary, and I have had the opportunity to experience it the past 3 weeks in…read morethe form of pop-up. It is a cool and interesting concept of wearing EMPowered suits that deliver EMS (electro muscle stimulation) for a fun low-impact 25 minute session. The future studio is currently under construction, so the owners (Liz and Luis) are sharing OHM Fitness with Triangle residents via pop-ups until the permanent location is ready. First timers are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early to allow the team to prepare them for the experience and to give them the properly sized EMPowered suit which is like a scuba suit that goes from knees to elbow. The suits work "best" with direct skin contact, so people can go "commando" or opt to wear a thong to allow optimal contact with your glutes. The class is 25 minutes from warm up to peak to cool down and change exercises every 25 to 45 seconds. During the class the team will go around to each individual to make sure the suit has been optimized to each individual, which I think is very cool. each session has been unique, and the team will play music that motivates me even more. I like to push myself when I exercise for my own benefit, so I have increased the intensity over the past few weeks including Thanksgiving day. Each time I have left feeling energized and ready for another fun session in the near future (AKA tomorrow). I really like this concept because it's fast easy, and I feel good before during and after which you can't always say when exercising. Sorry, Coach! Since my last review B2B has actually moved locations. The downside, for me, is that it's a further commute which often winds up translating into me being late for class. But there are far more upsides. The new space, while similar in size, is much cheerier, with bright white walls and sunlight filtering in. It also has AC, which not only makes a more comfortable gym environment, also allows for class to keep schedule even in these hellacious 110-degree months. Harold has added a lot of additional equipment over time, including double-end bags, speed-bags that size down as small as a grapefruit, and some bane-of-my-existance ab wheels. And I still love coming here. From mitt-work to footwork, weight lifting to interval training, heavy-bag speed drills to track, it seems like we've done it all. But as soon as I start thinking that, Harold introduces something new and challenging and interesting. And it's effective. I've dropped weight, gained muscle, and really seen myself grow. In a recent push-up challenge to failure, I completed 81! Eighty-one push-ups, ya'll. From not being able to do a single chin-up, I can now knock out 3. Harold's been a big component of helping me reach my potential, but also to keep looking beyond that and strive for more. If you're looking for a truly unique workout in an intimate environment where you're sure to benefit from a personal approach to workouts, from an instructor who meets you where you are fitness-wise, do yourself a favor and check out a class here. A few quirks: no music & no mirrors (so no distractions; though sometimes I wonder about my form without being able to see it). We checked out several of the downtown/central Durham gyms and none of them were quite what we were looking for. CrossFit was probably the closest but it's much more expensive. When we stopped in at Danny Daniels Fitness Studio we found the owner to be disinterested. The YMCA seemed very crowded. There were other gyms further away and many of those seem to change owners every year. What I like about this boxing gym is that you get to learn technique and you also get a great workout. Nearly every muscle in your body gets exercised. The warmup and cool-down routines usually incorporate exercises such as squats, push-ups, pull-ups, jump rope, etc. The main boxing routine usually includes different combos on a heavy bag. Some of the drills are more focused on speed and others strength. Since this gym is new, classes are generally small -- which I really appreciate. Right now we do just boxing but Harold plans to begin offering kickboxing routines as well. As for the facilities, they have 6 heavy bags and various equipment such as pull-up bar, jump rope, and dumb bells. There is no A/C but this has not been bothering me (think of it as Bikram boxing). I've been working out in the evenings when the outside temperature has reached the 90s. The fans do a nice job of keeping the air circulating.
