Mostly came for the food lol. Swedish meatballs were fine nothing incredibly exciting but did have a nice jelly with them which was interesting with the gravy. The cream cake was the real star they had a multitude of options both Swedish and American and this cake was so good! It had a pink almond coating on it that was sweet but not too overwhelming which made it very refreshing and light! Good prices for the amount of food! read more

I fell in love with Ikea in the 90's when I lived near one in NW Chicagoland, so I was excited to see one come to KC. I went once after they first opened the Merriam location then waited a few years before returning, but have found myself there several times over the past few months. I have not bought any major pieces of furniture but have brought home lots of kitchen, bath, decor and storage items. There are always unique finds and great values. I realize many people hate the layout but it's very easy to use shortcuts to sneak through the maze and to drastically cut down on your shopping time. There is always a cafeteria to stop for a break if the experience seems too daunting. read more

I love this IKEA! I've got two bookshelf's, storage compartments and several other things. The prices are great and everything I've bought has been very reliable. We plan on coming back when our kids get new furniture sets. I've recommended to several people and they all have great experiences as well and the items that they get as well are excellent. Their food court is also pretty awesome prices would be nice if a little cheaper just for when families come in, but still nice. It's also always so clean and well kept! I love IKEA. I've been to many. I thought of giving this location 4 stars because they are always out of a lot when I'm looking for it. I'm not sure it's the fault of the management of this location or just shortages throughout the company. Regardless, other than that problem, I love IKEA. I have been to this location several times over the last few months because I moved in a new house and needed several items. I recently bought a wardrobe. It's nice and just $199 which is a great price compared to other new wardrobes I saw. I've met a few nice employees but the last time I was in, I couldn't find hardly anyone. I hope that was unusual. This is a great place for looking at furniture ideas for your next project or just browsing for fun. I went to walk around and look ended up having a great time looking at all the displays. I think this could be a really great date night or lunch spot because there is a cute little cafe inside. I did not try the food but the display looked appealing. Every staff member including kitchen employees are exceptionally personable and gracious. Had a snafu not being able to pay with cash temporarily for food and they let me eat while waiting for the right cashier to show up with privileges to the drawer. I like to visit IKEA whenever I'm near one. I enjoy wandering through the living areas upstairs coming up with new ideas for storage and organization throughout the house. This store was no exception! Great prices on a few things here and there, which quickly filled up a suitcase. It's laid out just like all other stores I've been to but one thing was different in the end... only self checkout stations to cash out and be on our way! I felt like this made for an excessive amount of time waiting in line, since sooo many people struggle with it. read more

This is my first time visiting this brand of store. My friend was looking for a bookcase and a rug so I was happy to tagalong. I really liked how the store was laid out with the arrows pointing you on how to walk throughout the store to see all the different stages. I was shocked to find that they had so much to offer (for example kitchen cabinets). I thought this brand of store only did furniture, containers, and such. Throughout the store, everything was very clean and very organized. I really like the fact that you can pick up your items in the warehouse at the very end of the shopping experience upon check out. read more

Love! Love! Love! Do I need more cookware or gadgets? I don't think so. Will I buy anything? Of course! Recently I have been purchasing cookware each time I visit an IKEA. I don't know why I never bothered to purchase in the past, but found that IKEA stocks a lot of induction compatible cookware at really affordable prices. I guess I assumed that they were too inexpensive to be any good and lol you know what they say about assuming! I am impressed at how well constructed they are. Customer service was awful. Every one of the 5 employee that i encountered was either rude, in a bad mood, or not nice. One employee would not help me if I didn't use the sweedish name. TLDR: shop online for pickup. I went to IKEA to buy a Kallax shelving system for the game room and a cabinet for my dining room. The furniture itself was decent quality and very simple to put together (with the dog's help of course lol). The IKEA experience though was not great. First, if you don't know where you are going the signs to park and go in are not super helpful. We made our way inside through the main entrance from the parking garage and were greeted with a map on the wall showing the layout of the store. I knew to expect the one-way path and occasional "shortcuts," what I did not expect was to have the map labelled completely differently from the website labels so you still can't find where your items are located. Next issue- there were no employees to be found 90% of the time we were in the store. You are expected to just know that you have to use the kiosks without being told that. We found the kiosks to "order" what we wanted, but every time I tried to order the dining room cabinet it kept telling us to "find an employee to place this order." That's great, but there are no employees anywhere! (They used a distinct word for employee, but it is escaping me now- maybe co-owner? IDK. Anyway...) Continuing on- When we finally did find an employee, they were hidden away in a back room around a corner several departments later, they said they were unable to help and to go use the kiosk. When I explained what the kiosk was telling us, they said to "go to warehouse aisle 16 and get help there." They gave vague directions how to get to the warehouse and then went back about their business of chatting with each other. We wandered around some more to find the warehouse and finally figured out we were on the wrong floor. We got there, passed the aisle 16 help desk that was empty (on a mission for the kallax so didn't even register at the time that it was our next destination), pulled our self-service items (the Kallax system) from the shelves ourselves, then proceeded back to aisle 16 to find the "help desk" to assist with ordering the dining room cabinet. We found the desk, and of course there was still no one there. We saw the check-outs at the other end so we headed there, all the while looking for a stray employee who might be able to get us help from the vacant help desk, no luck. By now I was getting impatient and was ready to say forget it and just leave without the dining room cabinet. We got to the check-outs and waited in line, then when we reached a person we could talk to (she was very nice) she told me they couldn't order the cabinet for us, we had to go to aisle 16 and have them do it at the help desk. Now I was moving into deep breathing mode. I once again explained that there was no one there to help me at the help desk, we had been past it twice now and were not the only people waiting there. She said she would find someone for me, "just go wait there and I will end the girl over." I said fine but this was my last try and marched back over to aisle 16 for the third time. Still no employees around, and I looked down every aisle on the way there. I waited for 5 minutes with another couple. They walked away and I got on the phone with my father who was still at the checkouts with the kallax so he didn't have to drag them all around the warehouse. I asked him to have the nice lady PLEASE send someone over because there "is still no one here and I'm done with this. I will NEVER come back." He had put me on speaker phone so she heard me and apologized, saying she would find someone. About 2 minutes later a girl who looked to be about 12 showed up and snarkily input my order into her computer, thrust a printout at me, then turned to leave. I stopped her and asked what to do with it and she snapped, "take it to the checkouts and they will help you. I need to go finish straightening shelves." I got back to the checkout and the nice lady there told us where to go to pick up the offending cabinet from the "back" warehouse. Why do you have 2? And why can't customers access the second one? Use one method or the other, not both. It is confusing and frustrating for your customers. We should either grab everything ourselves or you get it all for us. You also need better instructions/information on your kiosks (like telling us to go to warehouse aisle 16 to get help instead of "find and employee"). Once we paid we had to wait about 5 minutes for someone to bring the dining room cabinet to us, then it was smooth sailing. We went back to the parking garage where I waited at the curb with our purchases and my dad pulled the truck up. A nice young man from IKEA loaded everything into the truck and we were off. Like I said, the furniture itself is decent quality for the price and easy to put together, so I will probably buy from there again, I will just shop online for the drive-through pick in the future. Despite visiting on a busy and somewhat crowded holiday weekend, we were still able to find help when we needed it. I had a great experience at this Ikea. This store is massive and is super clean. They offer a ton of stuff for all ages, with all sorts of different tastes. You are bound to leave with at least one thing you loved. We also ate at the cafeteria which was good and reasonably priced (moreso, I enjoyed the experience). We spent around 3 hours there. The display rooms are so fun to look at... and they have literally everything. I only give it four stars because the kids play room was closed, due to covid-19 precautions I assume. Otherwise this was a super fun outing and gave us plenty of home decor ideas! read more

the hours are horrible interesting though midwest hours are crappy compared to all other IKEA stores around the nation why does the midwest deserve the worst hours not taking off work to go shop 2nd part. we were looking for led strip lighting. Asked for some help because the display was a complete mess. Display wouldnt work and no inventory below, also missing additional parts to get it to work. Employee said they moved things around to make it nicer and agree it was a disaster. She said part 2/2 was upstairs hidden away in another area. Nope just went up there and didnt see anything. I love it here! There is ample garage parking most days, although weekends are much more crowded. I'm going to review my most recent visit, but overall I give IKEA a solid 4 star rating. We visited on a Wednesday early afternoon after hitting up a nearby park (Antioch...review to come). Currently (June 2023) in the IKEA restaurant, you can get up to two free kids meals with an adult meal, if you have the free IKEA Family loyalty program (I have, and use often.) The menu boards were down when we were ordering our food so I had to ask the employee several questions and she was pretty nice overall. I got my free coffee (thanks IKEA family) and fed two kids and me for a really good price. We happened upon a June is Safety Month event, where they gave away wall anchors for furniture and had people sharing information about sleep (Children's Mercy Nurse) and home safety. In addition to this they had some cookies, prizes, and an amazingly talented artist (Marietta) doing free caricatures. My kids haven't stopped talking about the picture and free hat and I will always remember to anchor furniture that is taller than a specific height. I'd consider this a big plus in the IKEA column. The kids Playland is open again. It allows grownups to have some time to shop while the kids (must not be in diapers/pull-ups) can have supervised play. I have not utilized this service at the Merriam IKEA, but 14 years ago in a Maryland store, it was very helpful. Check out the website for rules and hours. They now have almost all self check out stations, which I find convenient. The cafe and area to buy food to take home (frozen/jams/cookies) has been closed the last 3 times we have visited so if you need anything from there, check around the restaurant, in the store and in line at the checkout lanes. I also did a return this visit... you check in when you get there and they contact you by text when an employee is available. You can initiate a return online but the customer service person said sometimes that doesn't work well. It wasn't busy so our experience was fast and the person who helped me was helpful and polite. Their return policy is very generous. One last positive. In the restrooms, there are free size 4 diapers (which can likely fit a size 3 or size 5 kid, until you can get to your own stash) and a kid sized sink for them to wash their own hands. I wish more places had these amenities! IKEA is an experience. If you aren't a fan of browsing for inexpensive furniture or spending hours navigating through a maze, you should definitely avoid IKEA. Personally, I could spend hours here. I shop local often too, so I have no qualms with shopping here occasionally. read more

I now understand why they have so many negative reviews. We drove from Omaha to go shopping. For reference we used to live in San Diego and got very spoiled being able to go to IKEA whenever we wanted. So we made the very long trip. Most importantly they were out of SO MANY things. I understand covid has made everything harder to come by but you shouldn't have things on display and then not have them in the store. I would say 75% of everything we wanted was out of stock. The food court had almost nothing available 90 minutes prior to it closing. We specifically wanted some sort of desserts, but there weren't any. The floor was dirty. There was food and drinks all over the cafe area. In more than one of their small room displays were food wrappers, garbage, and even an entire spilled coffee drink or something. We actually decided to tell someone about it and the lady acted like we did it. Sheesh. (No we didn't, I found it when I stepped in it thanks). Check out was painfully slow and the cashier was downright rude. When we got home we discovered the dishes we bought had chips in them so that's wonderful. Waste of $70. =\ Not to mention on a whole IKEA doesn't seem like good quality anymore. I have cutting boards from 2017/2018 that are the same model type but thicker. They've obviously trying to cut costs and increase profits. Someone else mentioned they seemed like a thrift store and that kinda summed up our experience at IKEA. I've tried several times a day over the course of several days to make a Click & Collect order from this store, and this message (screenshot) is what I get every single time. Given COVID, I really don't understand why this store isn't making it possible to make a contactless pickup. You'd think they would want to make it easier, like every other reputable business. IKEA is a huge chain; there is no excuse. The people in the window where the "as is" furniture are sold are very helpful, but it doesn't make up for the fact that their stores are literally the only mandatory errand I have where I don't have any other option but to go inside the store and stand in line with dozens of other people, potentially putting myself and them at risk. It's also frustrating because I need to buy several very heavy things that are difficult for me to lift, but that's secondary. There is also ZERO ability to get someone on the phone. It is 100% recording. I went through every single option. Fix yourself, IKEA Merriam. I'm honestly this close to lugging everything I've bought from you in the past couple weeks back to your store for a refund and going with a local option - not that you care, clearly. read more

Really upset about making this review. I've shopped at IKEA for ten years - half of it in LA - of course I liked ikea because it was affordable and simple. However after today's interaction with a customer service rep it's safe to say I'll never buy furniture from them ever again. Sometimes a customer service conversation can completely make or break a consumer relationship. I'm normally pretty patient and understanding but I did not deserve to be treated like shit today for asking a question. My husband and I just bought a house and we are in the market for a king size bed. IKEA was the first to pop in mind! I found the perfect bed on their website. The only one I liked out of the hundreds we viewed this week from other stores. I saw it was not in stock at our location. No problem! I'll just call and order it from wherever they have it. The bed was just what I was looking for. Well forgive me for calling on apparently this reps bad Monday...? I asked her if we could get it ordered and we could come pick it up when it arrives even if it's just in parts. We wouldn't even mind if it took weeks or a few months to get here. Again - I'm patient. She told me that our store is out of stock. Ok yes I knew that which is why I called you - to order it for us - the website said to call our store. And she said No. No explanation for why. Just a hard No. So I asked... oh.. so there's no way to get it from a different store? She repeated herself - in a tone that was growing increasingly condescending. Like I was stupid. She didn't attempt to hide it. And anytime I asked another question I was met with the very same answer. She said "Your store does not have it in stock." YES. I know. It's why I called you so it can be ordered from anywhere else in the world where it is in stock. I'm sorry am I misunderstanding something? She huffed and puffed. She was clearly tired of repeating herself. I was equally tired of her repeating the same information with literally no explanation. Saying the same thing to me over and over and slower doesn't help me understand why. She said if it's not in stock at the store she can't help me. She said she would check for other stores (OK WHY DIDNT YOU DO THAT BEFORE REPEATING YOURSELF THE FIRST 4 TIMES?). She then said it doesn't actually exist anymore. OK well maybe you should remove it from your website... Instead of treating me like I'm the one who listed it as an active item on your website.. She didn't apologize for one thing. And I know the stores being out of stock isn't her fault or within her control but she's a representation of the company. Had she just said "I apologize but it seems that no stores have this item anymore, is there something else I can help you with?" - You know. How a regular non robotic person would handle the situation? Someone with customer service experience maybe? This call would have been a short and mild disappointment but It turned into a weird 5 minute battle of the attitudes. I was condescended to from the moment she answered until the moment she hung up. I like ikea for their products... but their customer service is basically non existent. I have a spinal injury that prevents me from lifting heavy or bending excessively. I had my infant son with me in a stroller as well. I came for bookshelves which I did have someone downstairs help me get them off the shelf and in to a cart, but she wasn't allowed to leave her stall thing for long, So I struggled to get up to the cashier. I told the cashier about my back and I obviously had my child with me, and asked her if she could get someone to help me take it to my car and load up... to which I got a "someone will help you downstairs"... okay.. So as I struggled to push my son and the giant bookshelves on the cart, watching people rush by me.. Finally a nice female customer helped me on to the elevator and downstairs. I left my stuff to load my kid up and bring my car... there wasn't a person in sight employed by ikea to help. Another woman waiting saw me and offered to help me. I have never had so much trouble getting help. Every other store I've gone to since my spinal injury has had no issue helping me lift and get things in my car. I was so frustrated, that I really don't think I want to go back because of it. Seems like there are a lot of other reviews in here about the lack of customer service as well... I'll gladly pay more for products to get people that at least pretend like they care about their customers. read more
