Such a cute little place!!! I felt kind of rushed trying to pick out flavors because so many of the flavors are uncommon and I didn't know what they meant. The cashier was mostly nice and willing to help. The prices weren't too steep and there were a lot of options for gelato and espresso drinks. The atmosphere is not modern but much more representative of the typical Americanized Italian cafe, so it was pretty cute! I've never partaken in the grande size, too much for me, spotlessly clean comfortable lounge and restrooms, ample parking, lots of flavors, more expensive than Braums ice cream but ten times better!! Super efficient, friendly, knowledgeable customer service to ease you through the difficult process (SO MANY FABULOUS FLAVORS!) of selecting just a few flavors. They gladly let you sample flavors to help with your selection decisions and they also serve great barrister coffees lattes expresses etc here but I'm always just getting that wonderful gelato. All the flavors I tried were super yummy (and since I went with a bunch of friends I tried a lot) and I really liked that they have you more than one flavor option even in the small. Well...it's not really gelato. The quality of the ice cream was not good. It was not thick, dense and creamy like the way gelato should be. It tasted like frozen water or shaved ice with flavor. I guess they used some chemical for the flavor and it made the taste pretty artificial. I didn't feel good right after I ate. Maybe it's because of the artificial flavor or sugar or sth else. The decoration of the shop was a joke. Hanging a couple tiny photos of Italy and putting the big gelato word on the wall...there you go...you can call it a gelato dessert shop? Il Dolce serves up the best darn gelato I've ever had (and I've had loads of gelato in my life!) And it's really inexpensive, too! My husband and I took some friends & my sister there while visiting OK last weekend and it was around $15 for 5 people to get a small gelato each! NO place in Boulder could compare with that. Not even close. Their roasted almond flavor is heavenly, and anything with chocolate. I just wish it was closer to where I live. I'm pretty sure the only locations are in Oklahoma. So... for now I have to settle for a trip there each time I visit my hometown. It's so worth a visit, though, if you're nearby (or in town). 100% super recommended. read more

I'm a big fan of gelato. I love the consistency and the intense flavors that come through, and I feel like gelato makers are way more creative with the flavors most ice cream makers. So needless to say, I was excited to try this place. My kids had the strawberry lemonade and cookies and cream. My daughter loved her strawberry lemonade. That said, she shared a small cup with her brother, who chose cookies and cream, and was very sad to see that the vast majority of the cup was filled with cookies and cream. Understand that she is only 6 years old, so for her older brother to get almost the entire cup while her chosen flavor had only a few bites on those small "spoons"...well, she was pretty down. I wound up sharing mine with her. My 7 year old son is a big cookies and cream fan in general, and he ate all of his without a word in between bites. That's a good thing. My husband had snickers and a chocolate something or other (can't remember the name but had a deep, rich color). I snagged a bite of his snickers which was spot on in flavor. Absolutely delicious. I didn't get a chance to try his chocolate before he devoured it, but he said that was definitely his favorite. Big words from a chocoholic. I had the salted caramel and the toffee crunch. Sadly, I was disappointed with both. I've become obsessed with salted caramel since a recent trip to Paris (where it is a very popular flavor) so I was excited to get salted caramel gelato here. Unfortunately, it didn't taste like much. There was only a hint of the caramel flavor, as though they just didn't add enough of the flavoring when making it. Hoping for a better experience with the toffee crunch, I took a bite of that one. Then another bite. And another....all hoping to find happiness in it. But it was yet another unfortunate choosing on my part. It tasted like nothing more than your standard French vanilla with a very minuscule toffee piece that was SO rare it appeared almost accidental that it was even in there. I felt like I might as well have just chosen a plain vanilla. On one hand it does lend credence to the fact that these are handcrafted rather than standardized recipes made in some manufacturing plant. On the other hand, it would still be nice to have the intense flavors that I am so used to with gelato in general, especially when I have seen other reviews raving about the salted caramel. I am glad my husband and kids loved their choices, even if mine wasn't that great. The disproportionate flavors in my kids' cup was a lesson learned to make sure they get their own cups; I didn't do it this time simply due to how close it was to their dinner time and didn't want them filling up more on a special treat. I'm sure we will be back and I'll be sure to try a couple other flavors I had my eye on - hopefully with a better experience. read more

This place is by far the best. I have been to many frozen yogurt, ice cream and custard places from various states across the country. However no place is as good as Il Dolce Gelato. It is incredibly fresh as well as refreshing. The flavors are spot on. Good prices. Generous portions. Family friendly and a great place to just hang out and talk as well. We tend to come here at least a couple times a month and I recommend it to everyone I know. I love this place and I hope it never goes anywhere. You could not possibly go wrong here. We have eaten out regularly in Norman for over 10 years, and this has become my favorite place in town. The quality is fantastic, always fresh. They rotate some of their flavors, and there is always a good variety. They frequently experiment with a new flavor or two, and they do a real good job of making the flavors not too strong. Most of the other alternative ice cream establishments are too strong and taste like extract. I like being choose multiple combinations in any size, and a small hits the spot for those who want to frequently visit and still watch their health. If you want no fat or you like fruity ice cream, then have the sorbettos. My favorites are limone, blood orange, and blackberry. If you want something more rich, then have the gellatos. My favorites are peanut butter crunch and chocolato scurro, cinnamon, menta stracciatela, and hazelnut. This is one of the best things to happen in Norman in years. We have been frequenting this place regularly for over a year, and we always look forward to going back. We're hooked. read more

Great gelato they have some pretty unique flavors although you don't know what some of the flavors are made of. I got the no bake cookie flavor and they didn't tell me it had peanuts in it. I took a bite and realized that I couldn't eat it I asked for another one and they made us pay for that one as well. Disappointed that I risked my life for a gelato and had to pay for another one. Three hairs in two dishes do not deserve any stars. On May 25th, my boyfriend and I visited this location and bought two cups of gelato. My boyfriend found *2* hairs in his caramel gelato--both a short and a long hair. We brought this to the employee's attention, and she provided a replacement. Then I found a short hair in my caramel gelato and showed the employee. I told her that we both had the caramel, and both had hairs, so it should be pulled out. She said it was "crazy" that we both found hairs, but no one else had said anything, so she left the tub in the freezer to serve to more people. One hair contaminates the lot, and I am disturbed by the notion that after *two* instances of contaminated and unsanitary food, the employee chose to continue to serve it to other customers. Furthermore, she neither offered to refund the purchase nor compensate any future visits. Heads up, folks. read more
