The wine and drinks were reasonably priced making the evening a five star winner! The staff kept brushing up against our backs because our table was in the middle of the restaurant where the waiters and waitresses passed. The food is good but overpriced by FAR! This restaurant has an outdoor upstairs balcony/terrace but the entire upstairs was not even open, even though the main floor was almost full. You can do better than Il Fornetto! Excellent pizza, authentic and delicious, but the price is a little pricey for the size and portion. One pizza per person, you can't really share a pizza unless you're both not very hungry. I've been to this restaurant at least once before and absolutely love it. They are currently renovating the area surrounding the channel across the street. They also somewhat recently renovated the downstairs. I've only say upstairs so I'm not exactly sure what is new. The first time we has lunch here, I enjoyed a seafood pizza. I still remember that although it was a little pricey, it was still very good. The most recent visit I ordered the canneloni. It was very good filled with Veal. My boss ordered the Veal special and his was very tender and flavorful as well. Also, their soup of the day was a creamy stomach soup and it was excellent. Aug. 13, 2022 Hadn't been to this restaurant in years and my last experience was less than desirable. Had lunch there today with five other fine ladies. I had the mussels marinara - the mussels were fresh, juicy and cooked to perfection. The marinara sauce was truly delicious and perfectly balanced. My only reservation was that I had two unopened mussels on my plate and found multiple small pieces of mussel shell in the sauce and had to consume the sauce with care. My friends had the arugula salad, pasta with sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms and salmon farfale. I didn't try the pastas (gluten intolerant) but my companions said they were yummy. The arugula salad, however, looked somewhat limp and not fresh and crisp as one would expect. The restaurant was buzzing with patrons at lunch hour but the service was exceptionally attentive, polite and discreet. Today's experience renewed my desire to return in the near future. read more

The service was really good, we had a great table, on the second floor just above the front door. Very isolated, excellent for Covid. The food was good, not great but good enough to go back. Absolutely amazing place! The service was great, everyone was super kind and our food was ready SO FAST! The atmosphere of the place is very nice and the patio is perfect to sit along the lakeshore and enjoy your meal. The meals were delicious and they offer 1/2 portions for less $ which is great! This was my first restaurant meal since the Covid-19 shut down so I was a little nervous. Decided to try this restaurant with my boss as it overlooks the water and seems like a lovely spot the many times I walked by. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress. We sat outside, I ordered wine by the glass and I picked the beef carpaccio as my meal as I cannot do gluten nor cheese (my boss was craving their specialty pizza). I told them of my allergies/intolerance and hoped for no cross contamination. What I got was great service, a lovely glass of white wine and a melt in your mouth beef carpaccio (2 days later and I am still thinking about it ) combined with a beautiful view and zéro cross contamination. While the resto may be pricier than some other italien bistros, I did find the quality to be superior. read more

We went to this restaurant some time ago (before the smoking ban in Montreal) but now the opportunity is up to review on Yelp, I couldn't resist. I booked a table at Il Fornetto for our wedding anniversary and at the time my wife was around 7 months pregnant. When I called I made strict instructions that the table would be in a non-smoking area. When we arrived we were greeted and taken to our table. The host was obviously completely blind and stupid because within one minute of us sitting down the large party on the table right next to us finished their meals and all lit up cigarettes! When I asked why we were in the smoking section he looked stunned and couldn't understand what the problem was (my wife was obviously pregnant) We had to get up, move tables but still the non-smoking tables were in the same area as the smokers, who incidentally were wearing t-shirts and some were wearing baseball caps. They obviously knew the waiters and staff. Really classy! I honestly can't remember the food and we left quite quickly as soon as the bill arrived. We were 2 couples who went there last Saturday. We had a reservation, but were not told that the restaurant had a party with an extremely loud DJ. We could not hear each other. We were than served nearly frozen rolls and it it took a better part of an hour to receive cold food. When we called the manger over to complain about a very unpleasant evening he just turned his back and walked away. We called the owner, Jimmy on Monday and got a similar response. Jimmy was not the least bit interested in hearing about the food and the evening and told us he would call back, but of course he never did. I was not very pleased with my experience at Il Fornetto. I had ordered a Table d'Hôte which included arancini as the appetizer and veal and linguini as the main dish. The arancini was bland, nothing special about it. It took awhile to receive the main dish, and when I did, it wasn't as warm or hot I thought it was going to be. The heartbreak! We were so excited to dine here and thought we were lucky that a table on the terrace had just opened up, little did I know we should have kept walking. The place was full and bustling, the server was kind, but that was the high point of the meal. We split a beef carpaccio, at $24/portion for an appetizer. The portion was big enough considering they piled enough salad to help fill the plate, the problem is that the carpaccio had been left to sit on ice or something, resulting in it being watery and flavorless. Our mains (two types of veal scallopini were meager portions served with minimal vegetables (literally, one piece of potato, one piece of cauliflower, same for broccoli) and a flavorless sauce. We had to ask for another sauce just to try and make it worth eating. The dish was a total rip off with nothing of substance to justify the price or the time we waited for our meals. In the end, $150 for a low end bottle of wine and flavorless carpaccio and veal. We both left the restaurant disappointed and STILL HUNGRY. Incredibly disappointing and entirely a waste of money considering the quality of restaurant available a block away. read more

Far from the downtown or Old Montreal "spots", family run business. Honest food, good service and you can stroll along the Lachine Canal to walk off the copious meal. Three perfect pieces of veal in a scrumptious lemon butter sauce. It went nicely with the side of fresh vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, red peppers). For dessert, we had a lemon italian ice. I would consider this one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Authentic tasting and the pizza was done properly. The lasagna was very tasty and perfectly layered with thin fresh pasta.. The view of the water is also very nice from the restaurant, and though we say inside, I would imagine that the terrace would be a lovely date setting. Shocking experience. My wife's meal was incorrect not once but twice! We were made to feel like we were bad customers for asking for the meal we ordered. we were a group of 20 people for a Birthday party and we rushed through the diner. The food was just ok. 2 people returned their fish plate because it was tasteless and 1 person returned their lasagna because the sides were burnt. At the end of the meal we had a cake for the Birthday girl and we were charged $1.50 per person so they can cut the cake and serve it to us. Is this normal?
