When you enter, you actually don't sit downstairs, you sit upstairs. There's only about 8 tables if that, and there are a handful outside on the street. So, if it's busy, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a wait! Upstairs it's pretty cramped. The waiter was not very helpful, which is partly why I gave two stars. I even tried to ask him for recommendations, and he said, "It's all good." He'd wait for about 45 seconds and then leave, rolling his eyes. He was clearly irritated we couldn't decide what to eat or didn't speak Italian. But what do you expect when you are caddy corner to one of the most famous museums in Italy? You are going to have a lot of foreigners visiting and eating! I ordered the broccoli and sausage pizza, which sounded good. It was not. The sausage was extremely tough, and there wasn't a lot of sausage on the pizza. The broccoli was more like a broccolini, so it was very bitter. I was not impressed. Between the service and taste of the food, I give two stars. Even within Italy I have experienced better service. If I ever return, I'll pass!

The one thing we both commented on was the crust. It was absolute perfection - soft, slightly chewy, and a little charred. Unfortunately, the middle of our pie was soggy, which is always an issue for me. On the bright side, this place was inexpensive, friendly, and they had a relatively clean bathroom. If you want to try it, stand in line as the crowd moves fast.

Also it gave us the chance to talk and mingle with other people in our group. They gave our group a choice of pizza and i got margherita. It was by far one of the best pizza's i had ever tasted. Albeit i normally am happy with sbarros. Very authenic and rich in tomato taste. Highly recommend. Turns out they are a couple of restaurants on the way up. Happy stomach. The pizza con bufalo is amazing, as is the bufalo mozzarela appetizer. If you've never had authentic bufalo mozzarella, made from the milk of Mediterranean buffaloes, you're missing out. Blows traditional mozzarella out of the water with a firm exterior and creamy interior. Their pastas are perfectly al dente and seasoned nicely. The basil pesto pasta is especially good. The servers are very friendly, and the space is large, and utilitarian, yet comfortable. If you are staying in Ercolano, it's definitely worth a visit.

This time we were eating on Italian time, and when we walked in around 9PM, the place was packed. Yet we had no trouble getting a table. Luigi recognized us immediately and welcomed us warmly. We didn't expect his attention since the place was so busy, but we were blown away by how much time he spent with us. When the power went out suddenly, the food kept coming out without major issues. Extremely professional. The personable service was the best part of this experience, but the food was wonderful, too. The bruschetta was fantastic and we very much enjoyed the bucatini alla Don Salvatore. To be honest, the misto di carne alla brace were not anything special (not bad, just a bit lacking in flavor) but when everything else was so special, we were not disappointed! And I haven't even mentioned the prices! We couldn't believe how inexpensive everything was. My only regret is not trying the pizza that was being made in a brick oven right inside the entrance. Portici is not much of a destination, so sadly, most people will miss this spot. But if you are traveling through on the Circumvesuviana train, it is worth a special stop at Portici via Libertà to eat here. The restaurant is only about half a kilometer from the train station, and if your time there is anything like ours, it will be unforgettable.

They claim to have invented pizza and mozzarella cheese. This restaurant we read a bit about and decided to give it a go, and my gawd, if you're in Naples and don't go there they should take away your Yelp membership. It's very old school and was filled with a wide range of patrons, from family's with little ones, to tourists like ourselves, and regular locals. The service was quick, the food nothing short of spectacular, so fresh, plentiful and oh so tasty. We sat outside and didn't venture into the inside, but the vibe was so positive we wish we could jar it and take it home. Our salad and pasta dish were shared and we took the entire pizza back to our flat as yummy leftovers the following morning cold, and heated up for a dinner after a long day of exploring what Naples has to offer. We are heading back there tonight for a second experience, and can't be happier to do so!!
