My girlfriend and I stayed in Meta for four nights and this restaurant was recommended by our AirBnB host. It was very busy on a Sunday night and we felt that we had made a solid choice, however we were very let down by our experience at Tico Tico. We ordered a two beers, a salad (it was just 'ok'), and pasta dish (it was dried pasta and uninspiring), and finally a Vitello con Funghi (Veal with Mushrooms). After two bites, we both agreed that the mushrooms had been served from a can. I speak some, yet limited, Italian, but I was able to ask our waiter if the mushrooms came from a can (Funghi da una lattina?). At first he said they were not, but later, his assistant returned and confirmed that they were. I told him that i found this to be unacceptable. He explained that mushrooms were not in season. I responded by saying that he should have made us aware of this when we ordered the dish, not after. I was not pleased, but did not ask for the item to be removed. The head waiter never returned to our table, never apologized, but finally returned with a shot of Limoncello, that had been split in two and explained "this is from the chef". I was insulted by this half-way attempt to remedy the situation. They should have offered us another plate, or removed the charge from the bill. They did neither. When I went to the counter to pay, I spoke to the owner himself and he was indignant that I would even question whether or not it was appropriate to be serving vegetables from a can. The pizza in this restaurant looked very good (but we did not try it). I spent 15 days in Italy and this was the sole poor experience I had in my entire trip.
I would avoid this restaurant and would suggest you eat your meals at: Antoinetta's Risto Bar. I cannot say enough good things about the way Antoinetta, Roberto, and Simona treated their guests. read more
