BEWARE SCAM RESTAURANT We've been to several restaurants in Bologna and tonight we decided to try Ristorante Il Moro. We ordered a few dishes to try as well as dessert. The pastas were average tasting and nothing to write home about. The chocolate cake was average tasting and we saw the waiter just heating it up in the microwave. The tiramisu is mostly cream. Upon receiving the bill we were surprised to see charges for Coperto and Servizio twice. As you can see in the attached picture, we were charged Coperto (€3/person), Servizio fee €10, and another Servizio fee of €9. Upon being questioned about the Servizio fee, the cashier sighed and scribbled off the second Servizio fee. I asked again why they charge Servizio AND Coperto. The cashier grunted and waved our waiter over. Our water then explained that Coperto fee is for the use of the plates, forks, napkins, bread, etc and Servizio is the tip. We had no choice but to pay for this padded bill as they would not budge on this. We've been to other restaurants within the same block as this restaurant and they only ever charged us Coperto. Upon returning to our hotel, I showed our concierge my restaurant bill. Our concierge confirmed that Coperto is the only official charge in Bologna restaurants. It is the service fee and tip and it is charged per person. Servizio fee is a non-existent fee and is essentially a scam fake fee put on by Ristorante Il Moro. Our concierge couldn't do anything but sadly shake his head and apologize because it was evident that we were charged fake Servizio fee bc we were tourists and Ristorante Il Moro was taking advantage. I urge other tourists and locals to avoid this restaurant who TAKES ADVANTAGE AND SCAM tourists with FAKE SERVICE FEES like this. There are other better restaurants in Bologna that are honest establishments. This one is sadly not. Avoid Ristorante Il Moro at all costs. Shame on you Ristorante Il Moro. read more

The food here was incredibly yummy. Small but dense portions led to my tummy being properly filled with that expert Italian precision I've come to love. My one gripe was that the service disappointed me. They didn't bring water nearly as frequently as the meal called for especially considering I was in a party of 24 people. I'm sure the experience differs for the typical customer, but my throat has been left parched. I would give this place a 3 1/2 if i could. The tortellini was divine, the chicken and prosciutto dish had me gaga for Bologna, and the dessert was absolutely yummers! But again, the majority of the water at the table was sourced from my tears. I needed to be satisfied with the earths mighty nectar and that never came. The ambience was great. The guitarist was music to my ears and sitting outside along the city streets really made me feel like I was living the Italian dream. Surprisingly delish! Was apprehensive when we heard a lot of English groups. We wanted to be with locals for the experience. What a find! We had the tagliatelle bolognese, pork scalippine with the most delectable sauce with the freshest artichokes and a mixed salad! Cheers with plenty of traditional red wine!! Recommend! Nicely hidden away from the Main Street with a nice selection of a lot of different pasta dishes. Food was a good experience without being blown away. We brought our daughter and sat in the outside seating, children are welcome here and they can adjust the size of the plate to half if you travel with children (my daughter is 3). I must say, this was an INCREDIBLE experience for us.... yes, I said Incredible, because the food, the service, the atmosphere, was all wonderful, and we were very happy to have found this hidden gem in the center of the city! Enjoyed my meal a lot here, as well as the casual atmosphere and the shaded outdoor seating. The location is on a slightly run-down side street, however the restaurant itself is pleasant and expansive. The pricing is great, €8 for a large dinner-sized pizza, although the flat rate for the table of €6 is a little much. That said, the food is very high quality. My sausage and mushroom pizza was delicious, and very Italian. On the whole the menu is quite good with a lot of variety so I think there's something for everyone at this restaurant. Waiters were friendly and attentive. I got the impression that the place was a little bit understaffed, but that wouldn't stop me from going back. read more

The food and service in this restaurant is outstanding. The carpaccio was so fresh I swear to God I heard it say moo when I sliced into it, and the pizza was the most incredible blend of fresh ingredients. This meal was truly finger licking good. A must go to restaurant in Bologna!!!! read more

This was our last night in Bologna and even after a week of it, we still wanted one more dinner of pasta. This place was right around the corner from our hotel and seemed decent and crowded. The food was good but not the best we had during our stay. Service was weird and very slow. We started with the beef carrpaccio which was good. Then we ordered our primi pasta dishes and secondi meat dishes. I ordered the bologna pasta tour which was little helpings of tortellini in cream sauce, green lasagna and wide noodles with a mushroom sauce. Then for the secondi I ordered the bolito misto. My girlfriend gets her pasta within minutes and I am waiting, waiting, waiting, like 15 plus minutes. I asked twice where my pasta was and they said it was coming. Then the secondi bolito misto arrives. It's OK, not the best I have had. I pick at it some knowing the pasta is coming. It finally arrives and everything is OK except the noodles with mushrooms is very greasy and not my thing. By the time we are done we are quite full but have spent hours more than we planned. No explanation why the order of courses was so confused and delayed. We decided we will skip this place next time. read more

Tourist joint. Can't go that wrong, can't go that right. We were welcomed in at a late hour of ~10:30pm and ordered two glasses of red wine (€8) (they chill their red wine). The wine was kinda meh. We then ordered a calabrese pizza (€8) and a gnocchi with porcini mushrooms and pancetta (€10). Water they charged us for €3 (we can't get away with paying for water no matter how much we insist that we just want tap). A cover of €3 for each person is a bit ridiculous. Our total came out to be €35, which was a bit ridiculous for mediocre food. The pizza was passable but the gnocchi was like eating rubber balls. Service was pretty non existent. No good! read more

We found this place by accident after making a booking error at another establishment - what luck!!! We had a beautiful outside table an attentive service . The meal was exceptional - we shared mussels in a white wine sauce that were plump and delicious - this was followed by a tagliatelle in a bolanese sauce which was rich while light and ended with grilled lamp chops with a balsamic reduction on the side.while the chops were small and not as thick as what we are accustomed to in the US - they were nevertheless delicious and cooked to perfection . The surprise of the evening was the wine.when I saw they offered a house red or white and there other selections did not show vintage or wine maker I was highly skeptical. But they brought me a house red to try. A Sangiovese - it was surprisingly good and for 14 e for a carafe - an excellent value. After the meal the waiter offered lemoncello on the house.
