Padded fake fees added to bill

BEWARE SCAM RESTAURANT We've been to several restaurants in Bologna and tonight we decided to try Ristorante Il Moro. We ordered a few dishes to try as well as dessert. The pastas were average tasting and nothing to write home about. The chocolate cake was average tasting and we saw the waiter just heating it up in the microwave. The tiramisu is mostly cream. Upon receiving the bill we were surprised to see charges for Coperto and Servizio twice. As you can see in the attached picture, we were charged Coperto (€3/person), Servizio fee €10, and another Servizio fee of €9. Upon being questioned about the Servizio fee, the cashier sighed and scribbled off the second Servizio fee. I asked again why they charge Servizio AND Coperto. The cashier grunted and waved our waiter over. Our water then explained that Coperto fee is for the use of the plates, forks, napkins, bread, etc and Servizio is the tip. We had no choice but to pay for this padded bill as they would not budge on this. We've been to other restaurants within the same block as this restaurant and they only ever charged us Coperto. Upon returning to our hotel, I showed our concierge my restaurant bill. Our concierge confirmed that Coperto is the only official charge in Bologna restaurants. It is the service fee and tip and it is charged per person. Servizio fee is a non-existent fee and is essentially a scam fake fee put on by Ristorante Il Moro. Our concierge couldn't do anything but sadly shake his head and apologize because it was evident that we were charged fake Servizio fee bc we were tourists and Ristorante Il Moro was taking advantage. I urge other tourists and locals to avoid this restaurant who TAKES ADVANTAGE AND SCAM tourists with FAKE SERVICE FEES like this. There are other better restaurants in Bologna that are honest establishments. This one is sadly not. Avoid Ristorante Il Moro at all costs. Shame on you Ristorante Il Moro.

Three tortellini dishes in one

Fantastic service and try the Moro plate with 3 different kinds of tortellini - superb! Great Bolognese food

Nicely hidden away from the Main Street with a nice selection of a lot of different pasta dishes. Food was a good experience without being blown away. We brought our daughter and sat in the outside seating, children are welcome here and they can adjust the size of the plate to half if you travel with children (my daughter is 3). Service was enthusiastic but we waited a long time to get the bill, and had to ask for it 3 times.

Came here in the afternoon around 4. Hardly anyone in there so service was pretty good. I was still full from all the food and gelato earlier but wanted to sample even more food. Ordered fish soup. It wasn't bad but could have been better. There was basically no soup .. sort of dry. Flavor was not bad tho..

Salsiccia e Funghi (Sausage and mushroom pizza)

Enjoyed my meal a lot here, as well as the casual atmosphere and the shaded outdoor seating. The location is on a slightly run-down side street, however the restaurant itself is pleasant and expansive. The pricing is great, €8 for a large dinner-sized pizza, although the flat rate for the table of €6 is a little much. That said, the food is very high quality. My sausage and mushroom pizza was delicious, and very Italian. On the whole the menu is quite good with a lot of variety so I think there's something for everyone at this restaurant. Waiters were friendly and attentive. I got the impression that the place was a little bit understaffed, but that wouldn't stop me from going back.

The food and service in this restaurant is outstanding. The carpaccio was so fresh I swear to God I heard it say moo when I sliced into it, and the pizza was the most incredible blend of fresh ingredients. This meal was truly finger licking good. A must go to restaurant in Bologna!!!!

Amazing atmosphere and food. Great service provided! Traditional lasagne made of green pasta and delicious panna cotta puts this place on to the top of my private italian restaurant list. Honest recommendation!

The food was awful. Very disappointed for our first evening in Bologna. It's just a tourist trap.

Osteria Broccaindosso - Tagliatelle Al ragu (2nd of the 3 pasta sampler) and the best I've had yet. The ragu was meaty and really flavorful.

We split the platter of meats, lasagna, tortellini, tagliatelle and ragu, and grilled veggies. The lasagna was soft, pillowy, and decadent without being heavy, the tagliatelle was al dente and flavorful, and the tortellini stuffed with creamy ricotta. For dessert we split a generous portion of tiramisu, which was creamy and rich. We had a couple bottles of Chianti. The ambiance is relaxing with a neighborhood vibes. This is a wonderful osteria, everything was chef's kiss.

They didn't have any tables outside so we were seated inside. Service (3.5/5): No WiFi unfortunately which isn't great for an international traveler like me. Standard European service. Not terribly friendly and not terribly efficient but I would say they were a bit more attentive than the norm. They did hook us up with some complimentary limoncello shots which was a really nice touch. Ambiance (3.5/5): A little quieter since it's off the beaten path which I like. A pleasant, homey restaurant. Drinks (4.5/5): We shared a bottle of wine. And the aforementioned limoncello shots. Food (4/5): We went with their pasta for two deal where each person gets three different types of pasta that you choose from six or so options. I love getting a variety of dishes so this was a nice way to do it. Not huge portions given the price but still delicious. The dishes were served to us quickly and we got to try some pastas we had never heard of. Overall: When in Bologna, Osteria Broccaindosso makes for a fine choice. It's a 15-minute walk or so from the center of town.

I got a hot tea with lemon, perfect for the cold. We first got the pizza Bella arte, which has a bunch of toppings. I'm not normally a huge pizza fan, but this one was quite pleasant. The crust was thin and the edges had a nice crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. It was flavored nicely and had a good variety. My only complaint would be that toppings weren't distributed evenly. There was a huge one piece of artichoke that comprised a full bite. We also opted for more traditional Balogna dishes: the tortellini en brodo, which was not bad. Soup was seasoned ok, not too salty or too bland. The tortellini itself was simple, with some meat and cheese. Seems like a nice comfort food for those who grow up with it. The tagliatelle al ragú was seasoned well too, although the actual pasta was not as bouncy as others I've had. Not bad though. However at the end we thought we had ordered panna cotta and for some reason it never came. The waiter later seemed confused even though he previously repeated "dessert panna cotta"... so I don't know. But we decided to go without the dessert.... Unfortunately. Maybe a language issue we had.

Several other groups in there, and it's a really nice spot. Food and wait staff were all wonderful. Our group had a mix of steaks, pizza, tortellini and lamb chops, a well as a caprese-style flatbread, and a carafe of red wine. Prices, like everywhere in Bologna, were all a fraction of what you'd pay for a far worse meal in the US, making it painful to leave town.

By the time we left, the place was fully packed. I was craving some fresh seafood, as all of the rich, delicious creamy and cheesy pastas I had been eating were starting to feel too heavy for me. The seafood platter I got was perfect, and I felt the price was very fair for the generous portions of seafood - all perfectly cooked! I wouldn't recommend the side of grilled vegetables for 6 euro, bland and nothing special. My favorite was the sea bream, scallops and shrimp. My husband ordered their lasagna and enjoyed it too, but not his favorite during our time in Bologna. Service was friendly and prompt (especially for European standards compared to what we're used to in the states). Based on our experience, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend La Mela to enjoy for dinner as one of your meals in Bologna!
