This place has a nice vibe. We were seated in a sort of sun room but it was well heated for the winter. There were nice Christmas lights. The staff were friendly and mostly helpful. I got a hot tea with lemon, perfect for the cold. We first got the pizza Bella arte, which has a bunch of toppings. I'm not normally a huge pizza fan, but this one was quite pleasant. The crust was thin and the edges had a nice crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. It was flavored nicely and had a good variety. My only complaint would be that toppings weren't distributed evenly. There was a huge one piece of artichoke that comprised a full bite. We also opted for more traditional Balogna dishes: the tortellini en brodo, which was not bad. Soup was seasoned ok, not too salty or too bland. The tortellini itself was simple, with some meat and cheese. Seems like a nice comfort food for those who grow up with it. The tagliatelle al ragú was seasoned well too, although the actual pasta was not as bouncy as others I've had. Not bad though. However at the end we thought we had ordered panna cotta and for some reason it never came. The waiter later seemed confused even though he previously repeated "dessert panna cotta"... so I don't know. But we decided to go without the dessert.... Unfortunately. Final night in Bologna, found good reviews for Belle Arti. Not many people sitting out front on a a Friday night, but we were asked if we wanted to sit inside in the garden room instead. Several other groups in there, and it's a really nice spot. Food and wait staff were all wonderful. Our group had a mix of steaks, pizza, tortellini and lamb chops, a well as a caprese-style flatbread, and a carafe of red wine. Prices, like everywhere in Bologna, were all a fraction of what you'd pay for a far worse meal in the US, making it painful to leave town. read more

We were walking around the city center of Bologna and found this restaurant by chance. It's off the main busy area which is nice. Of course we noticed the wood-burning pizza oven so we decided to enjoy a nice leisurely lunch and sat outside in front of the restaurant. All of the staff were friendly and our waiter was funny and provided us good service. We ordered pizza for our group of six and it was quite tasty. Worth a visit to dine here if you are in Bologna. After visiting the Ducati factory tour and museum, we decided to stop by this restaurant for a late lunch. ATMOSPHERE: There is indoor and outdoor seating available. It's a great place for lunch or dinner and is family oriented or a great place for two. DRINKS: There's a wide variety of wine including their house wines. Cocktails are limited. I ordered a Bellini to start off and it was very refreshing. Not too sweet. A little tart. FOOD: We ordered the salami and cheese platter along with the sausage pizza. I also ordered the grilled shrimps/lobate/scampi. The sample platter was a good starter. It had 4 diff types of salami, tomato bruschetta, and 1 type of cheese. It complemented the baguettes at our table. The pizza was only 6,50 euros and was pretty tasty. The dough was thin and crispy. The sausages were homemade and not too salty. The grilled seafood entree was the best seafood I've had in Italy!!! The lobster, shrimp, and prawns were very delicious! DESSERT: We had the creme brûlée with pistachios and the vanilla cake. The creme brûlée was well made. It almost tasted like a pistachio flan with light caramel drizzle. The vanilla cake was decent - nothing special. SERVICE: The waitress was not very attentive. It took her 20 min to take our order. 10 min to bring out an appetizer of salami and cheese. 30-40 min to bring out the entrees. The place was not crowded at all. Not sure if it's the kitchen or simply the waitress lagging or just how Italian restaurants are. OVERALL: This place deserves 4/5 stars. The very best tortellini nero I have had and one of the best pasta dishes in Bologna. Orechiete with capers, olives and anchovies also a standout. Eggplant Parmigiana seemed like the American style: very little sauce, very much cheese. We visited on a spring Sunday night, they were busy and the wait staff seemed to be slow, which we found was typical of Italian restaurants, but kudos to those who do the work! I am here on vacation and read good reviews online so decided to make Belle Arti my dinner destination 5/27/22. I arrived a little after 7PM. I was seated at a table in their courtyard in the back of the restaurant. This area is just lovely-very nice ambiance. The first thing that went wrong at this restaurant was that our waiter (party of 2) did not return to our table-ever! I heard the man who seemed to be the owner yelling to the waiter when he noticed we'd been ignored for so long. An older woman who seemed to be a relative of the owner whose arm was in a sling approached out table and took our order. She was pleasant but also obviously not used to waiting tables. . Then we waited and waited and waited.. finally our caprese salad arrived. It was beautiful, served with Buffalo mozzarella and delicious tomatoes. It was unseasoned. They brought us packets of olive oil, balsamic and salt and pepper. In my opinion these packets were a little tacky for a nicer restaurant. I did not care for this. I got the lasagne bolognese. It was dried out and served in a sort of ceramic baking dish that sat on plate. The lasagne dish did not fit onto the plate properly ( oval baking dish on round plate) and therefore tipped and clanked as I attempted to cut the lasagne. The sauce was just awful and so dry. My guest wanted to order a coke but was never asked. No one asked how our food was or checked on us at all. (They were not busy! ) My guest ordered a small pizza - the fantasy pizza as it was called on the menu. We had a similar pizza at Pizzium a couple days prior that was far better and half the price!! We asked for the check twice and finally the owner got a young lady we had not seen before to come with the check. There was one young man who served as food runner with short dark curly hair. He was excellent and friendly. I noticed another table asking him for additional water and another drink. I appreciated the owner being hands on but the service at this restaurant is just pitiful. They complained that I asked for tap water and said they only sell it by the bottle but I pointed to another table because some locals were given tap water. I had already bought one bottle so I didn't want to have to buy another when I just needed a sip to clear my throat. After that she didn't even come back to the table to ask us if we wanted coffee& or dessert (which we planned on ordering) so I went inside to pay my bill. The truffle sauce paired very well with the pasta... overall dish was scrumptious, rich but not too heavy. My husband ordered the Tagialette with Bolognese Ragu. (Also a specialty of this city) This dish is amazing if you're looking for a pasta dish with more meat. The ragu sauce had so much flavor and noodles were so fresh!! We paired both dishes with the red house wine which was perfect for us. Not too heavy or intense. A pretty light red wine. Found this gem by accident. And loved it! We ate in the garden area, which was covered during a brief rain, and then they opened the roof and walls for a full fresh air dining experience! Although the restaurant doesn't open until 12:30 for lunch, they allowed us to come early and take a seat. We sat in the garden where the roof can unfold to let in the sun. My husband and I had their house red wine, which was spicy and full. We ordered one pizza to share as they are quite large, and they allowed ordering it half Margherita and half Sausage. The total was 6.5 euros for the pizza (Margherita is 5 euros and Sausage is 6.5), and it was absolutely delicious. Light on both the sauce and cheese, but flavor abounded. The crust was thin but still doughy on the top and crispy on the bottom. I wish we could have eaten there again and again as they know how to make good pizza. read more

I adored this dinner! I ordered the black tortellini with truffle and my boyfriend had the carbonara. Oh my dish was phenomenal. The truffle was fresh and incredibly tastefully flavored. The cream was well balanced and the pasta cooked to perfection. The carbonara was not our favorite, the bacon was overpowering, however he ate the entire dish, so it was by no means bad. The tiramisu was amazing. By far the most wonderful tiramisu we've had during our time in all of Italy thus far. I loved the flavors and the staff was accommodating as well! Students are usually not picky about restaurants, we strongly do not recommend this one. Even if the presentation seems good and attractive, some issues cannot be neglected. Firstly, the waiters adopted an inappropriate attitude towards women indicating them wrong toilets and staring at them. Then, we ordered a dessert. In a tiramisu served, we found a cockroach that was still living in the tiramisu (not on the surface but inside). This perfectly shows the hygiene from this place. We complained to the chefs and they told us that it was not their fault but rather due to a bad isolation of the place. They started to adopt a contemptuous behavior while explaining that the cockroach flew on the dessert and made its way in the tiramisu that is supposed to be behind a window to be conserved. And all that without mentioning that the restaurant did not apologize a single time and rather adopted an offensive behavior to defend themselves. This place has serious issues of behavior and hygiene and we strongly do not recommend it. read more

The city is filled with traditional Italian food, including Belle Arti, best known for their traditional wood oven pizzas, but their pastas are just as noteworthy. Belle Arti has a warm, rustic atmosphere. Their exposed brick ceiling dates back to the 1500s. My friend and I made reservations here the night before I had to leave back to the U.S- to get that one final taste of Italy. Recognizing that we were Americans, we were given complimentary pizza bread. I'm not sure why we were given pizza bread and others weren't but it was warm, herbal and delicious. My friend started off with a Caprese Salad. I ordered the Moscardini in umido con crostini (Crostini with tomatoes and baby octopus), €9 to start. The tomato sauce was savory, rich and slightly salty. This should definitely be an appetizer to share- it was way too much octopus for me to eat alone. Anika got the Tortellini with Black Truffles, €12 for her entree and I ordered the Handmade Spaghetti al Cartoccio, €16. The pastas are all handmade in the restaurant. The black truffle tortellini was rich and filling, a definite order-again. The spaghetti with seafood was very satisfying. The large, thick noodles were slurpable in the seafood broth. The only downside was that the miscellaneous seafood was overcooked in the foil pouch. Overall, the restaurant is affordable and serves up consistently good food (Anika and her friends love Belle Arti). Portions are generous and service is very friendly. We had a great friend date at Belle Arti and I would be willing to return here again (if I'm ever back in Bologna)! read more

First, it's important to note that this Trattoria isn't the same as the "Cafe Belle Arti" which is far less impressive than its neighbor. In case anyone is silly enough to make the same faulty assumption and mistake as we did, just know they're totally different. The Trattoria, simply put, had some of the best pizza we've had in Italy. They have a pretty amazing looking pizza oven right as you walk into the building and someone to always man the station. Just the sight of rolled out doughs and an assembly workstation is proof enough you're in a great place. The staff is friendly and very conversant in English (which is helpful for someone like me with shoddy Italian), and the are ready to make any recommendation as you like. My personal tip would be to get a pizza and one of their yummy crostinis with some of their house wine, and you have yourself a good meal The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of a resounding 5 is their price per coperto, which at €5 is among the highest we found anywhere in the city. Stumbling upon this place, we didn't know exactly what to expect. From the outside, it looked like a legitimate place to get a nice meal. As we entered, things continued to improve. We were seated in an area that appeared to be a courtyard of sorts, enclosed to seal out the elements. A little while later, we were pleasantly surprised to see the roof pulled back to reveal a beautiful sunset peeking in between the buildings. We immediately fell in love this place. As it turned out, our server was extremely polite, and went to great lengths to be helpful both in suggesting menu items, and by being attentive to our needs. Everything that we had was very good, especially the seafood pasta. I cannot say enough good things about this place, as it excels in every aspect of its service. This place doesn't look like much from the street because this part of Via della Belle Arti isn't super attractive. We were in an apartment down the street for a couple of weeks and walked past it every day. But the inside is very charming, especially the interior courtyard. We were there in September and the weather was beautiful, so we sat in the courtyard. The food was wonderful, and the service too.
