Probably some of the best Italian I've ever had in my life! I got carbonara and Ireland a couple nights ago and it really wasn't good so I definitely rolled the dice on getting carbonara at this place and was pleasantly surprised! My husband's lasagna was also delicious. Service could've been a little better, but we are for sure. Doing five stars at this place. Ambience was immaculate as well.

The manager of this place deserves a medal. He had the ultimate in obnoxious customers the night we when (it wasn't us, promise). It was a busy Saturday night, and when we arrived at 8.30, the foursome at the table next to us were just after paying their bill. An hour and a half later, they were still there. Just chatting, completely oblivious to the fact that restaurants are not charities and occassionally like to seat other customers. The manager was gracious enough to just give them a few subtle hints that they were inconveniecing him, but they went unheeded. I'm all for relaxed dining, but it's tough for restaurants to make money at the best of times, it seemed like they were going out of their way to be annoying. Having to watch other diners be turned away because of these people was heart-breaking, because the food at Il Padrino is really great and the wine was fantastic too. Oh, and the crème brûlée is the best I've had in Cork.

Penne y pollo paggliaci. Very good

There's a front bar where you can grab food, there's a back bar with a smoking area that sometimes has a DJ, and an upstairs that feels more like a proper cocktail bar - and probably more areas I've yet to explore. The food smelled delicious and I would've totally tried it had I not eaten before. I explored around a bit and ultimately hung out upstairs at the bar. The bartender that night was so friendly! We talked about everything from art to travel to politics. She was the best and made a mean cocktail. Not to mention, the entire place is decorated fantastically. It used to be an old pharmacy and ties in a lot of that history into the decor, including a bar made of old pharmacy ledgers. You could spend so much time just looking around at all the details and exploring each room. I hear it gets pretty lively here on weekends, especially with the college kids, but this particular Monday night was fairly quiet. I would definitely return if I'm ever in Cork again!

Beer was always cold when I came in the past, but sadly this time when I walked in they had a large…read moredisplay atop the bar asking for donations for Palestinians and tons of Palestinian flags. It made me feel very uncomfortable and people go to bars to relax and unwind, not to see and hear divisive political issues. Really disappointed to see a display like that in an otherwise excellent pub.

Definitely consider making reservations because the restaurant gets quite busy during peak times. I chose to go with the fish pie and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was seasoned perfectly. We left with our tummies full and satisfied! Make sure you make this part of your Cork stops.

The second night I had an appetizer of seafood chowder and the John Dory fish. The cheese cake was unique, , very satisfying taste of cocoa, and the crunchy and gritty texture really felt like Ferrero Roche. For the other dishes I found something interesting. The prawns and crab sandwiches tasted standard, but the oily sauce (prawns) and the sweet and sour puree (crab sandwiches) had exquisite flavor that made one want to finish them all with a piece of bread (which I did). On the other hand, the John Dory was nicely done, texture spot-on, juicy and savoy flavor, but the white sauce looked broken and watery, and the taste was a bit on the bland side. In general I enjoyed my experience, but I wonder if they could match the quality of the sauce and the main ingredients better :)
