We just finished our 1 week stay at Il Poggio (October 4 - 11, 2019). We selected the location through an RCI exchange which required us to pay roughly 55 euro per person, per day which covered breakfast, dinner and room cleaning. Not too bad considering dinner was 7:45 pm allowing us to venture the countryside all day.
Our room was one of the apartments detached from the Farmhouse. Accomodations were comfortable in size (living area w/kitchenette and bedroom), and opened to a private terrace. The shower however, is the smallest we have ever seen, maybe 30" by 30" but we always had hot water and the largest, most absorbent cotton bath towels! The floors are tiled and is the reason we could hear the occupants above opening drawers and sliding chairs while we were in bed. Our mattress and pillows were Very Firm and sheets were all cotton and crisp. The room was cleaned and beds made every morning and sheets changed midweek.
The grounds are like sprawling herb gardens of rosemary, thyme, lavender, bay leaf, flowering plants and olive trees. They have pigs and horses and it's a good hike to explore the grounds. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful but you need to ask for
information.
The food isn't too bad. Breakfast was the same buffet items day after day. Italian meats and eggs (from the farm). The dinner menu is provided and selected in the morning, 4 course meal with 2 choices for a main all served fresh and hot from the kitchen. We enjoyed a bottle of their wine with dinner most nights. The prices were reasonable for a glass or bottle.
So to finish, we enjoyed the stay very much and would definitely recommend Il Poggio. It's location, affordability and offerings made our visit to Tuscany that much more enjoyable. read more
