My appointment with Dr. Thomas started about 30 minutes late and felt rushed throughout. I didn't feel that she had the time to listen to me, and when I declined a $50 retinal photo, I was shamed rather than given a clear explanation of its purpose. After dilation, I was sent out with paperwork I couldn't read and directed to optical to pick out expensive glasses -- only to later see in my online chart that glasses were not recommended. Follow-up communication has been slow, I've spoken to someone on the phone 3 times since my appointment over a week ago and still don't have an explanation of why this happened, or why the doctor sent me to the optical department. Overall, I left feeling rushed, unheard, and not confident in the care or communication. I will be changing providers. read more

Would write an excellent review for the Dr's and staff. Cataract Surgery went great. Don't remember sight and colors being so clear and bright. PROBLEM....... THEIR BILLING AND BILLING STAFF COULD BE A LOT BETTER!!!! They're not very good at billing and not knowledgeable at all. The know nothing about the "No Surprise Act". Have a problem with coding, the differences in plans and honestly don't listen the the customer/patient. read more

This is for the Billing Department only. If you have a payment plan with Illinois Eye Center, it may not be accurate. My statements have been inaccurate for the last three months. I was told the statements come from a different company and they are working on getting it corrected--hopefully soon. My statements show the wrong amount of a payment that was withdrawn from my credit card and they show two different "Patient Responsibility" amounts on the same statement. The only way to get the accurate amount is to call and get a printout from Illinois Eye Center showing each payment with a running total. read more

Horrible. Go elsewhere. Bad experience if poor actions and no professionalism. Glasses came could not read. Could not see intermediate or far. So I paid more to get new lenses with supposed new eye exam readings and exam. Wrong the glasses came in. Same problem. I suspected no new lenses made. So I got new different frames titanium because others tickle made face sores. I have a stimatism I am suppose to bet lenses material Trivexse not polycarbonate. They remarked with red pen lines on the lenses. Said they would remake. I came in when called new glasses ready. The minute I saw red lines still on the lenses I thought....how come if the lens were new and adjustments made. No way did the lens adjustments change. You guessed it. Same problems seeing. I ask why the red lines on lenses? If glasses regroup or prepared the red lines would be made. Guess I asked a foolish question because women eye department for glasses shuffled service to me like a card deck. I was told take home and get use to them. Their eye exam was look over across dept. Room to far away doors of restrooms can you read the words? I said I can not distin​​​ctly see words. But I said what professional eye exam. I know the restrooms with men and women marked on doors. Now the older woman removed my new glasses and went to back bending frames. ​I was told the cost to them was enough. Go home get use to them. Take time. Are you driving? They looked at my companion said you drive her home. It is our quitting time we're are locking up now. These people are having issues. How much time December through May. Gas prices are near $4.90. Four hour time up and four hour trip back home. $80 each trip . Now four times $320 gas spent. I can't wear these glasses ever. I will be out the prices and insurance. Frustration. Go somewhere else or go home and get use to those glasses. read more

Illinois Eye Center will not follow the patient bill of rights and share my medical records in the same technogical format as they store the records. This is despite five physical trips to the office to facilitate the sharing of my medical records. It has caused undue stress and unnecessary delay in my medical treatment. read more

Too bad Dr Briggs is leaving in July. He is the only one apparently who could have done my ptosis eye lid surgery. Doesn't matter as much at this point as my insurance won't cover it. Did not find out though until 2 weeks prior to scheduled surgery date. I was told waiting on preauthorization. I called my insurance and they said they never received one. I called Illinois Eye back and they said they did not request preauthorization as I do not meet my insurance coverage criteria/guidelines. They need to improve the efficiency between departments and communicate back to the patient sooner (vs two weeks prior to surgery). I have been nervous about this surgery for over a month when it turns out my insurance will not cover it based on the tests that were done in office. If I could give 3.5 stars, I would have done that but rounded up to 4. read more

Well, don't ask a doctor at Illinois Eye Center if the are going to be able to help you with your macular degeneration, and if all they do is shake their head 'no' you get not one, but 2 certified letters telling you you can NEVER go back. No sure if the doctor was embarrassed because he was honest and shook no or what but the letter said I was rude. Beware, I guess asking a question is dangerous so just don't do it. My co-payment had been waived when I went to pay it. The most recent decision was made by the director, but you can't find out what you were reported as saying. Seems a little dishonest, so I'm going to report them to the state. No longer a first class operation and in talking to people they are having the same type of experience. Just beware, it is our sight they are playing with. I will be checking to see what is required to go to Iowa City to what I have been told is an outstanding group of eye doctors. I have macular degeneration and it's getting worse. A senior citizen who does NOT want to go blind. Unfortunately if Illinois Eye Center doesn't have doctors that can meet those expectations they should be honest about it, just not rudely block people. No longer impressed! read more

Before you read in to this too much, know that this review is based off of a single situation/issue that was still fresh in my mind. Either way, I feel it was handled poorly enough that my family and I will no longer be using Illinois Eye Center(s). Most of this issue is derived towards customer service, which I feel has taken a dive in recent years (not just here, but in general). Gone are the days where staff and businesses strove to excellence by going above and beyond, even if but a little. Now is the time for excuses and company policies that are to be exercised without compromise or even integrity. While my wife did admit she was 3 minutes late (with a 10 min window) to our 2nd (of 4) daughter's eye appointments, rather than politely explain that she would not be admitted at that point, the receptionist apparently had my wife correct insurance papers and information while she struggled to control a 6, 4, and 2 year old (among other family issues on the phone) that should rightly have been in her nap-time. Only after that escapade was done did she call back to inform the (eye) doctor that my wife had arrived, which was responded to with a "It's too late, we won't see her now." When my wife (a teacher) asked if there was no way she could be helped, as the next time she would be able to set-up an appointment would be during spring break, the receptionist just stated, "No, sorry." and went about her business as if my wife wasn't even there. Even worse is knowing that a company has big is this doesn't care at all, and the most I can feasibly do is write a poor(er) review in the hopes that someone somewhere will take it to heart and remember to treat someone else in a similar situation with some common (or rather uncommon nowadays) decency. Anyway, take this review as you will, and hope your experiences here and/or elsewhere are better than this. read more

The Illinois Eye Center in Peoria, Illinois, came highly recommended - and with good reason. It has provided to us the best and most thorough eye care that we have ever received, anywhere, in the entire United States. HONEST! The facilities are neat and clean and well cared for. The staff, at every level, are friendly, prompt and helpful. Illinois Eye Center obviously attracts the best in the profession; never before have we encountered so many highly skilled doctors and support staff all in one place. The eye doctor just down the street in your hometown just cannot compare. When it comes to caring for your eyes, don't settle for second-best: GO TO THE ILLINOIS EYE CENTER! read more

Glasses were made with the wrong prescription and was told I needed to wear them for the weekend and just get used to them. I've been wearing glasses my entire life and knew they were not correct. Also billed medical not vision and will not change it. So instead of vision covering 100% it's now billed medical and applied to my deductible so I'm on the hook for 100% read more

Awesome doctors and staff. I walked in for urgent eye care. The first thing that struck me is how amazing the place looks. Then, the very welcoming and friendly receptionist and check-in staff. The physician tech/assistant, Latika, did such a thorough exam I almost thought she was the doctor. Finally, I was very impressed by how thorough Dr. Andrew Benedict was. Not only was he very patient with me listening and answering all my questions and concerns, but also in giving me good advice on how to take good care of my eyes in the future. I went in for an appointment this morning and during my check-in the girl asked for my new insurance. We never received a card this year for our eye insurance but I told her multiple times what our company was. She "tried" to put it in her computer and kept telling me they didn't have it even tho I looked to see if my insurance covered prior to even scheduling my appointment. I told her that and she just told me they didn't have it again. She didn't ask any of her coworkers about it even tho only one other was busy. I come home and call and I find out that my insurance does cover through Illinois Eye Center like I had said. I wish they would put more effort in because now I am having to reschedule when I feel I should just go somewhere else. Terrible! read more

Make sure you check if your in network ,,,, They also charge you for a full eye exam and then an additional refraction fee of 52$ I thought a complete eye exam meant complete (all) , Lots of additional fees on top of the complete eye exam ? Just doesn't sound right to me . No wonder people cant afford eye care. 300$ for one eye exam to make sure your eyes are healthy. Doctors are very rude ( all 3 that i seen) and don't care about what is actually going on. In and out, don't bother to ask questions, they do NOT like that one bit, they will quickly put you in your place and leave the room. No help at all after 3 visits and some big bills. read more

Good vision care but not happy with glasses. Had a pair with all coatings and after a year they had tiny scratches everywhere. They made new lenses under warranty but wouldn't make them for my current prescription! Not good patient care. Get your exam and take your prescription somewhere else. read more

My vision appointment back home was cancelled while I was visiting family in Illinois. I called Illinois Eye Center and was blown away by their service. From both receptionists that I spoke with, who were extremely polite and helpful, to the physician that saw me the same day I called, customer service was excellent. The techs and support staff were also very efficient and thoughtful, each smiling at me and giving me their full attention. This is a difficult thing to achieve in such a large office but Illinois Eye Center is doing something right. The building was also very well kept and clean. Fantastic experience overall and very pleased. Would highly recommend! read more
