Well when I passed my package over to Ms Mayo, she told.me the label I made THE DAY BEFORE for an express package was invalid. Mind you I spend thousands on express shipping and have ever had a problem I usually make labels for everything and drop them off the next day or if I'm at the downtown location in the evening She told me I would need a new label, which makes absolutely no sense. Once the package gets scanned and accepted that's when the "1 day express" shipping begins, not when I make the label USPS you really need to train your staff to know updated rules and not just make stuff up on the spot. I'm on my fourth post office because the next one I went to was CLOSED (the weather is not that bad). I'm very over the staff, having never had to pay for postage, telling me made up rules and making what is supposed to be convenient more of a hassle.

I was in search of directions to the nearby Emmett Till House (which turned out to be just a few short blocks from where I was located). The librarians here were patient, ably filling in the gaps where Google Maps proved deficient. In addition to being named after the pioneering Black female pilot Bessie Coleman, the library also features After School Matters student art: a mural depicting authors Gwendolyn Brooks, Sam Greenlee and Lorraine Hansberry; a "Maquette for Bessie Coleman Mural"; and photos of Bessie Coleman from the DuSable Museum's collection. Even though I am a regular visitor to the Harold Washington Library, it is gratifying to see what is going on around the city, at other branch locations. Next time I am not in such a hurry to make it to the group tour on time, I will definitely make it a point to stop in and take a more careful look at these various works.

While visiting a friend I experienced a "Trip & Fall" event and decided to document the event by generating a Police Report. I opted to avoid a trip to the Hospital E. R. as I was still ambulatory although somewhat shaken up. I went directly to the 012 District at 1412 S. Blue Island as that was the police district where the incident occurred. A civilian aide addressed me and she generated a report to memorialize the event in case an injury should manifest itself later leading to a medical or legal intervention. I requested a copy of the report but the request was denied. I was provided with instructions on how to obtain a copy of the report by purchasing a copy from Police Headquarters. Huh ? Why do I pay taxes ??? A report could have been printed out for free and presented to me while I was there in person. But no , I am to write out a request equal to the report just generated by the civilian aide and mail it along with a check to Police H. Q. requesting a copy of the report be mailed to my home address. Oh well , so much for the "city that works". Must be one of the reasons l left Chicago. Winter is too cold. Taxes are too high. Violent Crime is out of control.

Yet I did want to pass along something in case it might help people out in the future. I needed to get fingerprinted as part of a job application. I went to the police branch in Lakeview and asked for fingerprinting (which in my experience has always been done at a police station). They promptly directed me here, to the the Headquarters at 35th and Michigan (just about an hour via Red Line) as it was the only station that does fingerprints. When I finally arrived and waited for a half hour, I was finally told that they would not fingerprint me for my purposes. In fact, they only fingerprint people if they have been arrested. I'm not sure why they couldn't have told me that in Lakeview... If you need to get fingerprinted and you have NOT been arrested, there's a great fingerprinting/passport photo business at Clark and Adams in the loop. I recommend that unlike me you go there first.

It says this is where Barack first kissed Michelle after eating ice cream from Baskin-Robbins. On the corner of Dorchester Avenue and 53rd Street is where it all happened. The story on the monument is taken from his interview with Oprah. He said they got ice cream. Then after she ate the chocolate ice cream, he kissed her and she tasted like chocolate, heehee. Also important to note there's still a Baskin-Robbins in the shopping center. It could be the same one. That shop could even be of historic significance.
