Well be sure to stop at this very conveniently located post office (it's even on the right as you exit the park via West Glacier). I don't recall seeing a stamp machine, so do be aware of the lobby hours, which are Mon-Fri 8:30am - 12:30pm and 1:30pm - 4:15pm. It's not open Saturday or Sunday, so you'll have to buy stamps elsewhere, but you can still do your mailing here.

This little town was beautiful and quaint. It has all of the necessities that you will need on your…read moreway into Glacier National Park. It has a post office, gas station, visitors' center and a restaurant. This road leads to the breathtaking Road to the Sun which has some sights such as the Weeping Wall which is a sheer wall of rock that has waterfalls that pretty much get one side of your car wet. These waterfalls are the result of the meltwater from the glaciers above your head. The summit of this road is Logan's Pass which is a continental divide that has a gift store and a trail that you can walk that leads up the side of a mountain. People are allowed to ski and snowboard along this trail which kind of blew my mind since we're in the middle of freaking SUMMER!!! You also get a view of the valley that Yosemite AND Yellowstone don't have anything on. You can see where the glacier came through and carved this valley. I will post pictures at a later date. I can honestly say that I don't say "holy shit" when it comes to nature, but that's what I said when I made one of our few stops along the highway. We also saw a black bear and we found him when we saw about 20 tourists on one side of the road snapping a picture of him. I was so cool!!! I will be back on another trip definitely!!!

The best aspect/feature of this town is that it offers a nice little walking section of throwback western stores. I'd say the entire downtown area is comprised of 4 - 5 blocks where you can browse quaint shops, people watch and grab a few souvenirs. The backdrop of town transports you back in time. With parking spots lined up across every street...I simply got out of my car and started walking around and exploring. Some highlights included old fashioned saloons, outposts, casinos, chocolatiers, antiques, bars and grills, classic "old - time" photos, arts and boutiques. Strolling among town, a bunch of the stores and shops are authentically patterned as if you're surrounded within a golden/cowboy era within time. It was quite unique to wander up and down the streets. I hung out for roughly an hour....peering inside the windows of stores and enjoying the ambiance throughout before continuing on my journey. Overall, it was pleasant to visit the city of Whitefish and wander the charming avenues of downtown. For anyone passing through the area - this touristy section is a cool pit-stop to immerse yourself in some vintage surroundings among old fashioned venues.

This review is for the Olney MT Fire departments fundraiser "Flathead Classic Sled Dog Race". We…read moremade the trip in from Whitefish, an easy 20 minute drive or so. Three miles past the sign for Olney is the start and finish line. Side roads turn off on the right and left (event is on the left if west bound). Turn off and park on either one. Just hold onto your kids when nearing HWY 93. The event is free, although the Fire Department has coffee for a donation, and some meals and snacks to purchase. Just follow the barking dogs lining the side road up to the event. Yak tracks for your boots are encouraged. The main staging area is a bit "busy" and can be a little misleading. You are encouraged to walk off trail, past the finish line, along the actual race path. Just a little bit in along the trail and it opens up considerably. There is much more visibility to see the teams as they make there way to and from the starting line. Tips: 1. Bring folding chairs 2. Bring a snack and warm drinks 3. Bring a bag for trash since you will likely be some distance in and away from any trash bins. Pack it in pack it out rules apply. 4. Handwarmers if it is cold The event was really active at 9 AM then seemed to settle down by 1 PM, although the teams were still racing. It was a gorgeous day out and we could have easily spent the rest of it watching the racers had we been better prepared. Be prepared to help the all volunteer Fire department which depends on your charity.
