I had not had a massage before and nervous before my first visit. My coworker finally convinced me to do so. I have been dealing with severe anxiety issues the last couple years. I recently suffered a panic attack and the after effects and had been told by others before that massages could ease some of the symptoms. I finally decided to give it and try and very glad I did! Also I was walking into an intense work conversation the next day which was making my body very tense the days before. Alex and her space as soon as I walked in made me feel very relaxed and safe. She was so accommodating and loved that she was open to having my partner wait in the other room during my session. She was very open explain the process before starting and she took it it at the pace that I felt comfortable. As soon as she started I felt very relaxed and it felt like magic the tension and pain that I was carrying started to melt away. I was having a lot of back pain on my shoulders especially in one particular area that I was holding the anxiety and stress and she was able to help me work through it in a very gentle way. The experience overall was very soothing physically but also mentally and spiritually. After the session I went home and went straight to sleep and felt very at ease and relaxed. Alex is probably one of the best massage therapists I've been fortunate to cross paths with. During my first massage, she was curious to know what I preferred and really spent time getting to know all the things going on in my body. She was present with me throughout the massage and had grounding energy. Throughout the massage she continued to check in with me to make sure everything felt alright, which I appreciated and she just has the most magical and intuitive touch. I first came to Alex because of tension built up in my shoulders and back. She was able to accommodate me the same day, and the location is accessible with plenty of parking. The setting is warm, clean, beautiful and relaxing. I've been revisiting since. She's attentive with her clients' needs. She's able to help me relax my tensed up muscles and made sure throughout that the pressure is right (I'm accustomed to medium pressure but she's capable of all range.) This "massage service" (in quotations because I don't know if it actually exists) asks you to call them to discuss what services you need (can't book online). Then you call a couple of times and they aren't there and don't return calls. If you're closed or taking a sabbatical or too busy for new customers good for you! But please don't waste people's time by keeping an ad up. You see this too much these days and I guess it's because some businesses want to get whatever dollars they can if things slow down or they decide to take new customers. In the end though it's obnoxious and hurts the business' reputation. So for customers I suggest not wasting time with "businesses" in name only and to the businesses that do this I suggest taking your ads down if you're too cool to return calls. Update based on business owner response: Good for the business owner to take a vacation and make a waitlist. This info could have quickly been added to the voicemail message before leaving for vacation as a common courtesy. Suggest doing this next time and good luck with the business. There are definitely other massage businesses out there that are better organized and I chose one of those. read more

Alex is wonderful. She shows as pretty booked online, but taking a chance I texted her to see if she had any cancellations or openings sooner than a month out. To my delight, she responded a few hours later that she had an opening that night! I had a normal relaxation massage with her, which I felt was a little too light - very relaxing, but didn't feel like any bodywork was really done. But, the massage was still really good, and I appreciated the little touches Alex did. After talking with her, I decided to get a deep tissue next, which I have never done before. It was much more what I normally expect - very relaxing but got a few knots out and overall felt way better. She does a lot of little "extras" that make the entire experience far better than any of the other probably 5+ masseuses in the bay area I've been to. She does hot pads on your back to help muscles relax before she works on them, she'll put a warm cover on your eyes, she'll light a tea candle below the head rest to lightly warm your face, she'll spray a light rose mist or burn incense, and she always does a full 50 minute massage, not taking away time to talk with you. She always asked the first time she did these special things in case I didn't want any of them. She goes over and beyond for her customers, and her skills are top notch. She makes you feel very comfortable and at ease. I've been searching for a masseuse for over 5 years, and I've finally found one I'll happily go back to over and over again! read more

I really have to update my review of Alex and iMassaj. I have had chronic pain for years and have received massages from around the world. Alex is the best, bar none. I recently had a cancer diagnosis and getting massages from Alex have been instrumental to my well-being during treatment. Here's the thing: Alex is PRESENT. She is 100% checked-in, and is tracking your body's responses to every touch. Because of this, the pressure is always perfect. She has amazing technical skills, and on top of that the kind of intuition and artistry that leads to a truly healing experience. Although she is intuitive, she also always makes sure that you get a complete massage - you will never feel like one part of you was neglected. Secondly, Alex thinks of everything. Her place is so thoughtfully set up. I felt taken care of right from the first moment. Alex listens and massages you with care. This is one of my first massages where I didn't feel any pain from the massage meaning she listened to me when I asked for lighter touch around deep tissue work and also checked the pressure with me during the massage. Some people like deep pressure and working knots out but others of us get hurt too easily! It was nice to just relax and not worry about getting pinched and pushed too deeply. As a relatively poor recent college graduate (aren't we all? But every now and again, I make a choice to do so. My experience with Alex was a prime example of a good choice. Alex cultivates an environment of relaxation. Her studio is beautifully and serenely decorated, with lighting just bright enough to keep you from losing your perception completely, but dim enough to force you to have to keep from drifting off into a peaceful slumber. She utilized for me a mellow incense that aided in drawing my mind away from the sensation, and allowing my body to fully let go of whatever pent-up stress I'd been holding on to up until that point. Perhaps the best part of my experience with her was her constant and gentle check-ins with me on her performance, stemming, no doubt, from a wonderful desire to truly aid another human soul, and cater her abilities towards the subject before her, rather than presuming any sort of pretension about her skills. I've little shame myself, but still, it was nice to have someone who constantly explained what they were doing, rather than presuming their methods correct. I know. Redundant. A bit. But I've nothing but compliments for her skills and for her obvious passion; perhaps I should stop while I'm ahead. Behind. Wait. Her studio is located in a quiet part of West Oakland; I wouldn't, y'know, leave your laptop visible in the front seat of your car, but coming from someone who only takes public transportation, despite the obvious assumptions one might have based on the perceptions of such areas in the Bay, the location was of little concern to me.
