Tldr: I think Melt would be great for people in a lot of pain or with accessibility issues. I wish there was more hands on time and less talking. I came into Melt because I recently developed some minor but nagging shoulder pain, that's a bit annoying during everyday life, but especially during sport. My PT suggested that massage could provide me some relief. Hana was very nice and clearly experienced, but even with the allocated 30 min consult, we spent a good 45-50 mins just talking and experimenting with some exercises/tests that tbh, weren't particularly helpful, especially since my issue is one of athletic performance. I think the exercises should be left to the PTs :) For such an expensive massage, I would have expected to get a full 60 mins of actual massage, instead of just 40-45 mins. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's also a big focus on accessibility, which I respect, but again it took away from my massage time (too many check ins, minute adjustments, etc). I had the first appointment with Hana yesterday. I have had some severe lower back pain issues for a week and my daughter suggested I tried a medical massage. I am not into massages in general especially painful ones, but I decided to give it a try. By yesterday the severe pains were gone but dull residual pains were there. Hana and I talked in length about my back condition and also about my general health and daily habits and about what I thought was happening. She is a good communicater and listener and also explained her philosophy. "Less is more sometimes" stood out in my mind. Once she started the massage, she put small pillows and wedges under me to make sure I was in a comfortable position, which reminded me a little of some chiropractic methods. Since it was my first session, she asked me often and confirmed the right level of pressure for me and very attentive to what felt good or not, which made me feel comfortable that I was part of this treatment as much as she was. Nothing was strenuous but the dull pain became minimal at the end of the session and stayed that way the rest of the day. I had a lot less discomfort this morning when I got up than the last several days. I reported to her as such and I am looking forward to having several more sessions as well as going to a PT program to learn how to strengthen my core muscles etc. read more

I just had my first massage since pre pandemic, and wow - I probably just had one of the best massages of my life (and I have had hundreds over the years!). I have been feeling a little nervous about getting a massage in this pandemic world, but the lower back pain I've been experiencing finally got the best of me and I decided to make an appt - and SO glad I did. First off, Hana has *excellent* protocols in place, and I felt completely safe the whole time. But beyond that, I don't think I've ever had such incredible communication with a massage therapist before - Hana spends 30 mins (!!) with you before your appt going over your history, needs, goals etc (and this is not part of your massage time). She communicates with you throughout the massage, but not in a chit chatty sort of way (which I've certainly experienced in the past and hate!), but in a very direct way about how you're feeling, how your body is responding, making sure she's meeting your needs etc. Not to say you can't relax and zone out - she was the perfect blend of being responsive and communicative and giving you the space and quiet to completely be in the experience. Also completely refreshing, Hana didn't boot me out after the massage, she took the time to demonstrate different stretches with me and even let me try out her foam roller. I have recently been really hard on my body and last minute decided I would try to make amends with a massage. My biggest problem is I was looking for a lovely relaxing massage. This is not that. I am 25 weeks pregnant and I struggle with some pretty horrible nighttime hip pain. I had never heard of Melt, but called on a whim Sunday to see if they were open because I was desperate. They were closed, but called me back Monday to tell me they had a cancellation today. I got an appointment with Adriana and my massage was SO GOOD! I got a side-lying prenatal massage on a super comfy heated table and she maintained very firm pressure throughout, which was exactly what I needed. Hana is exactly what you want in a massage therapist. She is very thorough and communicative and really spends the time to get to know your body. I've mostly gone into massage sessions in the past with the belief that it really needs to hurt to be effective. Not all massages are created equal!!! I have known Hana through Farmstead Cheeses and WInes where I work. She gave me the most amazing 5 minute chair massage recently, which took away a migraine-grade headache almost instantly. I was able to work the rest of the night pain free. A few days later a booked a 1 1/2 hr massage with Beth. I have to say it was one of, if not THE, best therapeutic massages I have ever had. Just not the same as going for a fun "spa day" massage with girlfriends. This was BUSINESS. I felt a lot better afterwards. Next time though, I am NOT going to go to work later in the day.
