For those of you wondering about the quality of the chicken: come to Shang Lee's if you are looking…read morefor flavorful, fresh chicken. However, if you're looking for truly, natural organic chicken, keep buying your organic/natural label at the supermarket. I've been going to Shang Lee's for a few years now. I'm a big believer in feeding dogs raw food -- so I come here once in a while to get some affordable, freshly killed old brown chicken for my dog (I know -- so weird, so millenial -- whatever). I never thought to try some chicken for myself until finally -- my friends asked me to host them at my house and feed them some pho ga (chicken-based pho). Last time I made food for my "so-called" friends, they never came back. This time I resolved to impress my guests with my cooking. And for that, I would spare no expense. So I came back to Shang Lee's and decided to splurge on my own young brown chicken. For 10 dollars, freshly murdered, "natural" chicken is a steal. At Ralphs/Sprouts, organic label chicken, that's been dead for several days, is about the same price. So why not Shang Lee Poultry for natural chicken? My young, brown pho ga yielded a flavorful, rich, and vibrantly yellow stock. Although the chicken was tasty, I noticed something that'd indicate the chickens did not have a happy, meaningful life: scum. When you make broth with unnatural chicken, impurities will rise to the surface. I'd made pho ga many times before with orgainc/natural label chicken from the supermarket, but I did not experience the same impurities as the young, brown, sad chicken. But...for those of you who don't care...this chicken was fresh and tasty either way. It wasn't fall off the bone tasty like my organic pho ga, but it was a different tasty -- enough not to scare my guests away, and then have them come back for seconds. To sum it up, my chicken ranking? 1) Organic/natural label chicken 2) Shang Lee's 3) Fosters/Tyson chicken.

I went there to get a freshly killed chicken, but they did not have this product. They only had…read morefrozen chickens and were not able to tell when they had been killed or where. I did not buy the chicken because there was no more assurance the chicken was fresh than buying one at the grocery stores.
