This exhibit is now version 2 for 2025. I didn't go to the original, but this version was really nice and fun. It was a bit overpriced, but the movie, videos and effects were very immersive and a lot of fun. I enjoyed how they tried to tell a story through video - it was art in and of itself. I was able to visit the Van Gogh Exhibit twice. They got 3/5 for hospitality/customer-service, but if not for that, the exhibit itself would be 2/5. The first time I went was as a Drive Through Experience during the Spring of 2021. Unfortunately the experience was very lackluster. You go through all the trouble of booking a time slot, and when you arrive, not only is there no space to enter, but there is no free parking as you have to wait for the cars ahead of you to go through. Its basically a drive through, but they should have accounted for having X number of cars during time period Y. When we finally started driving through, there was no real explanation of the exhibits or paintings, just a projected screen, and when we wanted to stop to take photos, we were told we had to keep moving. I'd previously made a review explaining this, however the manager (or someone in charge) contacted our group and offered to give complimentary tickets for the summer as they were back to in-person. Thats the only reason for the 3/5. As for the in person, yes there was social distancing circles, but they didn't do much as everyone freely moved around the whole time without staff intervening. Again, no real explanation for the photos as they were projected, just projected images accompanied by music. If the exhibit wasn't titled Van Gogh, you might not even know it was his paintings being projected. read more

I've seen a much smaller version of it and yet enjoyed it more than the currently playing Immersive experience. It might be a good experience for those watching it for the first time, I'm not sure, but after already connecting with the "Van Gogh Alive" , I was disappointed with this show. There weren't many quotes or a flow in the show, the space itself was not optimal for an exhibit of this artistic intensity. Overall a disappointing experience. read more

When my friend suggested we check out the van Gogh Exhibit and I went to Yelp to see the reviews, I immediately clicked away because I saw some 1-3 star reviews and did not want to pre-judge what the experience was going to be like before I went. My friend and I came around 4:30pm on a weekday and the check in process was seamless. You scan a barcode and fill out a COVID-19 symptom questionnaire. When you walk in, another worker scans the QR code on your ticket. Then you wait in line. Washrooms were on the left hand side to the entrance. When we waited in line, a member of the exhibit ran through some of the considerations for enjoying the exhibit (e.g. circles on the floor to promote physical distancing but you can walk around and to different circles, pictures are encouraged but no flash). There were some screens that had facts or snippets about Vincent's life. Then we walked in! I was expecting something like the AGO like his paintings projected onto a screen and you could walk around and appreciate his art. However it was a 35 minute video that was put together that included his artwork with 2D animations and music. I found it was really amazing that the team behind this exhibit brought his paintings to life in such an interactive way using technology. My friend and I watched two cycles of the show with different perspectives. We were also told we could stay for as long as we'd like but we felt watching it a twice was enough and to give room for others coming in. Just a note is that the video start times do not coincide with the times on the tickets which is a bit strange. Thankfully when we walked in, one cycle of the show was just starting. It states on the ticket that you should check in 20 minutes before or after the time on your ticket and my friend and I got there late 10 minutes (oh TTC reroutes!!!) and it was not a problem. After the exhibit, there was a little store with a ton of van Gogh merchandise. I ended up getting two enamel pins which were $15.99 each and so cute! I also got 3 post cards but they were $5-6 each!! I was surprised. Price wise, I felt that it was expensive but overall I enjoyed the experience and felt it was grounding. It was easy to be present in the moment. I also really enjoyed the music they played. I found out that the album called "Vincent" (fitting title) is on Spotify by artist Luca Longobardi. read more

My review is for the Gogh by car version of the immersive Van Gogh exhibit. I bought a ticket to do the immersive Van Gogh exhibit by car. It also includes returning for in-person admission to the exhibit when it reopens in late July. I was telling my friend that this Gogh by car experience is as close to doing a drive-in movie for me. I have yet to do one in my life, but want to knock that off my list this summer. For now, saying that I've seen art in my car is a first that I wanted to experience. After purchasing my ticket online, I got decent instructions on how to get here and which parking lot to enter. It's best to drive south along Freeland Street. There were a bunch of cars already there. I spoke to a helpful staff member who explained where to line up and that another staff member would check me in. Sure enough, another staff member approached my car safely on the passenger side. He asked for my first and last names. It felt like he was taking attendance and I didn't need to pull out my virtual ticket on my phone. He found my name on the list and said that we'd be waved into the exhibit soon. Staff carefully orchestrated everyone entering the exhibit. Depending on the size of your car, they are keeping that into consideration so that every vehicle fits nicely and everyone can see. You first enter and go up a ramp slowly. There is a staff member at each point on this course to get into the exhibit. I was fortunate to simply pull into a spot next to two cars that were the same size as mine. You tune into 88.3 FM to hear details about the Van Gogh exhibit that's narrated by Colm Feore, a celebrated Canadian actor. It was so calming and a nice way to get settled. I was under the impression that you needed to be tuned into the radio for the entire Van Gogh exhibit. It's actually better if you roll down your windows, put your mask on (it's required if your windows aren't up), and get the full sound experience with all the speakers in the area. We all did that. I made friends with the family to my right. It was\s nice going through a first-time experience with a family that was just as enthusiastic about the whole thing as I was. It has been over a year since I stepped into an art gallery or museum. I craved it and got my fix here. The transition from one painting to another projected on the screen was stunning. I loved the music that accompanied each segment of this animation. I was also proud of myself for recognizing some of Van Gogh's works of art. I felt so rusty, but everything came back to me. I got into loving the post-impressionism style of art when I first visited a Gauguin exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal) years ago. I then attended a Van Gogh exhibition somewhere else after that and loved it. I just had to visit this one in my hometown. I felt safe driving in and carefully driving out with staff guidance. I waved to each staff member on my way out because they were super helpful and great. They deserved a huge thanks! The only downside is that you can't hit the gift shop afterwards. I guess that's great that you save some money and don't get tempted. I'm so used to perusing the gift store that it felt odd not doing that here. Hubby & I did the walk-through version of the exhibit. I actually really enjoyed it & wanted to stay longer. But I also didn't want to be a hog. When we entered we'd missed the beginning so we stayed until we watched a complete cycle of the exhibit. The tickets for the exhibit are expensive, as others have mentioned. But if you think about all the projectors used to display the art, the lights, the sound system, the computers used to co-ordinate everything, I can understand the expense. It's not something to be done regularly, like a visit to the ROM or to the AGO. It's more of a one time thing. After the exhibit I went to the gift shop while hubby wandered around. We took some pictures in front of walls printed with Van Gogh's most famous paintings. I bought a wallet & a gift for a friend at the gift shop. It was a little pricey, but that's normal for a gift shop. Hubby wanted to get a water at the cafe, but they don't accept cash & he didn't want to charge such a small amount on his card. The washrooms are off to the left of the entrance to the exhibit. They were empty when I came in & they were clean as well. I think they could've done the show in a better location. Some of the views of the art were obstructed because of the columns & the higher viewing platform right in the middle of the room. Some really neat parts to the exhibit. The cute signs like the one for the washroom said: Gotta Gogh? With an arrow. I also enjoyed when the sun rose on one wall, traveled around the room to set on another wall. Some symbolism in the order of the paintings too. Towards the end you see a self-portrait of Van Gogh wearing a hat with four candles on it. One by one, the candles blow out, symbolizing the end of his life. That part really struck me. It was sad how he wasn't appreciated during his time & he died poor. Van Gogh had mental health issues. He was delusional & hallucinated. I wondered, if he'd had adequate support, and a regular patron who appreciated his art, might he have lived longer? Created more amazing art? Pros: -Interesting how they animated Van Gogh's art. A lot of symbolism there & there's a story to the progression of one artwork to the next -Timed entry -I enjoyed the music & the lights -I could appreciate the cost of the ticket because of all the projectors used, the sound, the lighting -Gift shop & cafe outside the exhibit -Local artist displaying some of his work outside the exhibit Cons: -No seating unless you ask for some -The columns in the room can get in the way of a good line of sight -Expensive ticket price -People can stay as long as they want it seems that is a pro too. But then it can get more crowded -No cash accepted for gift shop & cafe -Timed entry doesn't coincide with when the exhibit starts. read more

3.5 stars Tickets on the website range in price from $40-100. Under the most expensive ticket the benefits are: priority access, limited edition poster, VIP souvenir laminate, VanGogh cushion, complimentary drink and flexibility to change the date & time of your booking and flexibility to arrive +/- 2hrs of your time. There are spacing markers on the ground when lining up starting outdoors and it continues indoors. When your ticket is scanned you're given a $5 coupon (per group) to use at the gift shop. Inside the tunnel prior to entering the exhibit a staff will outline rules for you to follow as well as give you time to read the info on the tv screens. Circles are projected onto the floor to ensure that each group of people are physically distanced while enjoying the exhibit. I saw a few circles that had benches in them but not many. In my opinion, it's best not to choose a circle that's too close to the wall as you won't be able to properly see and appreciate the paintings projected onto the walls. There's an elevated viewing platform you can enjoy for several minutes at a time for a different experience. The program/paintings are continuously run on a loop so the staff recommends that you stay even as credits roll since you can enter at any time. It was neat to see the paintings come to life with music in the background. I found the exhibit to be on the expensive end as pretty much everything takes place in one large room and relatively speaking you're not spending much time there. The gift shop is in the lobby and has items for sale like facial masks, pins, cellphone cases, baby onesies, collapsible dog bowls and vases and wine plates. Also in the lobby is a photo booth like area. You scan a QR code with your cellphone and choose one of the cutouts to have your photo taken and integrated into the photo. I thought it was going to be an very cool since it was a new and marketed to be an interesting concept but what it was, in reality, as if someone created a amateur power point presentation with standard cheesy animations and projected it on a white wall of an empty warehouse. Congrats to whoever had the genius idea to rent out an empty warehouse space, throw a projector on the ceiling, and milk people for an overpriced, overhyped experience. Seems like easy money. I heard of the Van Gogh experience in my home city of NY, and my gf who is from Toronto wanted to see it while I was visiting her. I was definitely down as I had heard of this "experience" and enjoy art and am a fan of the Starry Night work. I paid $80 USD total for us both (I think it was like $50 and change CAD per person) to walk into a warehouse and have projected images of Van Gogh's work with some background music on for half-hour rotations. It was the same "experience" every 30 minutes. There were some benches and a ramp so you can see the "experience" from 10 feet/2 meters higher (btw I'm proud of myself that I used the metric system there). The projected walls and visuals were pretty, and it was cool to see, but I didn't have a revelation or walk out with my mind blown, it was just a visually pleasing experience. The works seemed like they were just meshed together with no coherence and I didn't feel like I got a better understanding of any of the works they showed, or Van Gogh himself as an artist. Suggestions to make it better - display more of Van Gogh's work. Have some background on the work being displayed, and context and history behind it. Maybe a physical display (even if it's a replica) wouldn't hurt either, on the floor of the "experience". They have a bar area where they sell overpriced drinks and beer that you can take into the exhibit and drink as long as you stay in "socially distant circles" that are projected on the floor and then put your mask back on. The staff were generally friendly but firm about the rules. Then you exit through the gift shop where they have some cool but overpriced things like socks and ties with Van Gogh's work on them. It's a different and decent space filler if you have nothing else to do and don't mind spending the money, and was nice going with my significant other. But one and done for me. read more

I've been here for all three exhibits: Van Gogh, Klimt and Frida Kahlo. My favourite was the Van Gogh exhibit as there were more features of his artwork versus the other two exhibits that felt a bit short. It's pretty much a projection of art in motion in a very large room. Fortunately we purchased the tickets on a discount for 50% off during Boxing Day or Christmas. I do not think it is worth the full price admission, 50% maybe, free would be better for what it is. The admission costs pretty much covers the rental space and staff patrolling the venue. I really wish they had made this more interactive and more worthwhile for me to come down from East Markham in traffic. read more

Basically, it's a "video" projected onto the walls that runs on a 35 minute time loop. We arrived at the front entrance where they checked our vaccine passports before going inside. Our ticket was for 1PM but we got there early and there were no issues. Line was speedy. Staff was very friendly. Before going into the experience a worker explained how it works and we went in. When you walk in you don't know where in the 35 minute loop you're in. There are credits at the end which is how you know you're at the end of the loop and then it restarts. We were able to find an area to sit. The experience itself was pretty but there were some posts in the middle of the room that got in the way sometimes. It wasn't very busy when we first got there (a little before 1PM) but it did start to get busier around 1:30PM when we left. They didn't give us a time limit but we felt that after about 1.5 loops we were good. Although it was beautiful, for me personally it wasn't worth the $100 for two tickets. Im still giving it 3 stars though because it was a cool experience with the use of technology, the event was organized and the staff was very nice! read more

Great idea but execution lackluster. I had taken my mobility impaired mother for her 70th birthday and despite notifying the usher we couldn't see from behind a pillar. It was not addressed but rather unprofessionally addressed with 'would you rather move to a corner!' This was chosen because of mobility issues and the visit was during non peak times (taking a full day off of work). While the CSR contact sympathized she said 'it's beyond my control' Unless you want to watch a post for 30min I'd suggest rethinking this read more

A very beautiful Van Gogh exhibit, but not worth $40 for a 35 minute experience in a single large room. After being at the interactive and creative teamLabs Borderless in Tokyo, this single exhibit really pales in comparison. The space is otherwise very clean, people were all socially-distanced and wearing masks, and hand hygiene stations available throughout. What a wonderful exhibit! We were absolutely blown away by the exhibit. Hubby is mobility-challenged so we opted for the drive-in presentation. It was such a treat for him to not have to be in pain the whole time and/or having to stop constantly to rest. The music accompanying the moving images was the perfect complement. Loved being able to purchase the beautiful masks as well as refreshments right at the car. Highly recommend a visit to the gift shop if able. Since V.G.'s work is out of copyright, Mario Iacampo basically said "let's print starry night on every piece of crap we can get in China and SELL that shit at 1000% profit". The "exhibit" is little more than a collection of copies and prints, and a derivative animation loop based on some VG paintings (I know several graphics people who could do better). Save your money and go to LACMA, MOCA, The Getty or any other LA Museum to see some real life art. The Van Goghs at the Norton Simon are impressive. Pros: * Easy Parking in structure - but $32 per hour - yikes - cheaper on the street or other lots * Animation - nice, creative, unique * Lines - actually, not too bad on a Saturday afternoon... * Fairly organized. Cons: * $40 - $100 for VIP (Total Rip off). VIP avoids the line - which was short, gets you a seat cushion (big deal), and a "VIP Lounge" - total joke and a poster - whoopee... * The accompanying music - a mix of classical, choral, what appeared to be Edith Piaf and some other odds and ends. It didn't work with the visual. * Setting: Uncomfortable cushions, floor, fold out chairs or ottomans. This should be done in a modern movie house or planetarium... uncomfortable. * Crowded. Bring your N95 (not just KN95) it is crowded - even with good ventilation * Distracting: The crowd is always milling about and entering and exiting the space... show times don't seem to mean anything. It runs on a 35 minutes loop. * Exit though the VERY CROWDED gift shop... * Long bathroom lines... I wouldn't go again... read more

Really enjoyed this exhibit. It was so well done. Plus you were able to stay there and watch whatever you missed if you didn't catch the whole show. However, I also saw the Immersive Klimt show recently and wouldn't recommend it for 2 reasons. First, if you miss any of it, they shoo you out as soon as the show's finished. Second, this show seems less about the artist and more about the technology behind it. It got to a point that I thought I was watching a video sales promotion for the software that makes stuff dance around. And speaking of dancing, why they showed a recent video of two people dancing during the show baffled me. Kind of put me off going to any more of these kind of shows. read more

I'm not sure what the people that gave bad reviews were expecting but a friend and I went and we thought it was amazing! We stayed through 2 1/2 loops. The work that went into producing this was incredible. The music highlighted the work. It was exactly what I expected based on reading reviews in other cities. The only thing was I expected a few different rooms. We moved a couple times to get a different perspective. You are allowed to take photos but no flash. Pictures came out pretty well, wish I got some more! You are also welcomed to stay as long as you like. They had a few benches scattered around, first come first served. We sat on our cushions on the floor until a bench became available. One recommendation is to leave yourself plenty of time to get there. We had tickets for 1 pm. West parking lot was full so they were telling people to park in South lot and there was a shuttle that came around about every 15 min. There is A gift shop at the end, a bit pricey on some items. I did purchase an ornament. Go with An open mind and you will enjoy it! read more

The ticket purchasing company the exhibit use makes it pretty difficult to find the listed address for the exhibit in LA. missed a showing i had bought tickets for because the new "immersive van gogh exhibit" on sunset blvd was easily mistaken as it easily showed up on google searches. This information is not accessible at all. There was no phone number I could contact them at on the website. No clue why there is a google maps location that is not the actual location. When they finally responded to my email they said the location is found on their website and ticket. They updated the website to have the address, the print on the ticket is super small and illegible, and the fake google maps location has since been taken off. They haven't responded my second email which is why I am now leaving this poor review. Had I been offered a rescheduling or refund, this would be otherwise. read more

We went to the walk-in Exhibit and loved it! The staff were helpful and people were mindful of social distancing. The Exhibit, or Show as we call it, was absolutely fabulous with awesome animation of Van Gogh's art and beautiful musical accompaniment. We can't wait to go again! read more

WARNING!!! By far, the biggest scam/ripoff venue, I've ever attended. You could verbatim recreate the experience, by looking up his art on YouTube, and just sitting on your bare floor. The tickets were grossly overpriced, riding on the coattails of the actual traveling exhibit. The walk from the parking lot, was a longer and mor vast experience, than the actual "exhibit". It's literally a single room, projected onto the walls, with poorly edited, and over stretched images. once you endure the 30 minute video of looped mediocrity, you wander into a further disappointing room, of overpriced knickknacks, themed around the "experience". Most of the art on the product in the gift shop, were stretched out, like a bad PowerPoint presentation, and the colors were not the same as the actual art. It felt like everything was brightened, and given a slitgh.... cartoonish feeling. Overall.... The only experience I encountered that night, was disappointment. We purchased tickets back in February based on the videos we'd seen from the Paris exhibition. This bears little resemblance to the the original Van Gogh Immersive in Paris and New York. It's a single room with one 30 minute video that plays in a loop. The images are stunning, but it's far short of what we expected. Also, the space is overcrowded and stuffy. This is not the place to be during a pandemic. If you really want to see it, I think that the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit in Anaheim might be a better choice. They have a larger space and two separate rooms that look like they have additional elements not provided in the LA show. read more

How do you spell scam? My wife and I went last evening. The venue is horrible for something like this being at the huge convention center. There was a bodybuilding contest going on at the same time. Traffic and parking were horrible and particularly for older people there is a huge amount of walking. Extremely few people were masked and given the bodybuilding contest, I am quite sure that many were not vaccinated. The whole exhibit is basically a 30-minute somewhat surrealistic video that would have been better suited for a Disney type or universal type property. The projection was very good, however, as it did give 3D depth to the images shown on the wall. The music was an interesting mix. The individual works, however, we're not actually shown but blended in through animation. The timeline was disorganized and it was absolutely no narration. It would have been much better off having written and verbal narration, doing things chronologically, to give better meaning to his paintings. The short audio file that we were asked to listen to at home before attending was absolutely useless. Of course, you finish and exit through a store where useless mementos can be bought. My money would have been much better spent on an online art course or buying a book with his history and images. This was a useless and somewhat painful experience. I absolutely would not recommend it nor would some of my friends who attended with us. Van Gogh was a tormented soul who painted brilliantly. This exhibit was a huge disservice to him. read more

I am not the type to post, but was so disappointed that I wanted to let people know "DON'T GO". Very expensive ($142 for two of us to see a 1 hour exhibit) and we had to sit on the floor. The replicated art projected on the walls was nice but my gosh, I think a more appropriate price would have been $15-20 per person. I appreciate art from this historical period and Van Gogh is relevant, but at times it felt like I was sitting in an enormous coloring book. My wife ordered an 8 oz water bottle as we were going in since you can't bring anything in and it was over $5. For a water. Since we paid for the premium ticket they lent us a 1" thick cushion to sit on the floor, then when we turned the cushion in, we "got to" pick either a poster or a fake sunflower. There was a broad selection of posters on the wall, but we only had a choice of one. The others were for purchase only. I spoke with the manager and she listened to my concerns but only argued why things are the way they are and offered nothing other than exchanging one of my posters for a fake sunflower. Not that I expected anything, but her response was completely disconnected. So for $142, we ended up with two identical posters, an 8 oz water and two very disappointed adults from the experience. I strongly recommend that you avoid seeing this exhibit. Save your money! read more
