How can a community take any passionate student objections on social issues seriously when-as a student body-they struggle with proficiency in core subjects to intelligently articulate their own positions beyond regurgitating talking points that are often missing context? This is potentially dangerous. With that said, the Poseidon Academy, Honors (AP) program, and NJROTC are deserving of credit. Those programs offer students an opportunity for experiences in a higher level learning environment. However, if a given AP class testing average is poor some analysts should be done to discover why. Some students are not ready for the AP classes. Keeping them enrolled in advanced classes where they continue to fail does nothing positive for the students. A lot is required to redeem this school from its current state, but the staff, district, and community must have the fortitude to correct course. Students must learn to follow rules and work hard to meet scholastic and behavioral standards. Otherwise, they risk having to play catch-up after graduation when the consequences are more severe and potentially permanent.

Not only do they care about stimulating the mind, they also are huge believers in motivating and nourishing the body. Spirituality, although I am not a religious person (at all...) it never bothered me while I was here, they teach in a subtle and not in a "in-your-face" type of way. They had a more practical approach to it. They were really demanding, and wouldn't accept anything less than excellence from their students. If someone was falling behind, they did a good job at reaching out and helping out the student in any way needed. Good education, good people, good establishment.

After many years of considering a more independent study, we made the decision to enroll my son in Altus. His demeanor, his work ethic, confidence, and overall attitude changed drastically. The high school was really close to my house plus I wasn't really picky. My overall education was average... What really stands was the KMMI video program. I wished I took advantage of this program earlier. I was involved in KMMI as a senior which isn't a long time to develop a solid skill set. I really learned a lot from that experience. I even had the opportunity to shadow the Unknown Eater from Channel 8. Also at that time Montgomery had a very impressive marching band. They've won a lot of competitions during my time. Currently, the school is going through a much needed renovation. I've had so many good memories and met so many good friends while at Montgomery High School. It's got the SCPA program, (School for the Creative and Performing Arts) with twelve majors to choose from: Art, Dance, Mariachi, Stage Technology, Ballet Folklorico, Drama, Musical Theater, Orchestra, Band, Guitar, Piano, and Vocal Music. So there's plenty of talented young men and women here in CVHS.
