Didn't mention over the phone that the disgoinsis fee was gonna be 150 and they refused to work on my car because it was "tuned"

I Took the car in for an inspection. I told Them that the car was leaking oil, coolant, and transmission fluid. I Paid to get the car inspected And requested to be Informed of the location and source of the leaks. They just came back to me and said that the car is leaking those fluids. They only confirmed what I already knew without giving me any clarity as to where it Was leaking from and the necessary fixes. I said " So is the transmission malfunction error code on the dash because it's leaking fluid?" And the technician said "that could be the case or maybe another issue". As far as the oil leak they said "it COULD BE the valve cover gaskets" Unfortunately "COULD BE" is not what I paid to hear. So I left after paying the inspection fee With the exact same knowledge about the car that I came to the repair shop with. I came knowing that it was leaking those fluids and then I left knowing that it was leaking those fluids. Nothing new. Another respected repair shop in town said they would have never done that to me. So they are going to set up a time to inspect the car in-depth and provide me with remedies for the leaks and issues. BMW Z4 convertible roof repair. I would not recommend import minded. This repair went on for months. #1 wrong part ordered. #2 estimated time for repair wrong by weeks #3 first attempt to repair the roof was completely wrong. It's like they didn't even test it. I drive the car home in the rain. the next day It's sunny so i use the roof. The roof won't completely retract or close. Grinds a horrible noise. I had to put the roof back on manual. I take the car back in. #4. it took several days beyond the promised repair date, but they disassembled the roof again. This time it did work correctly except for now the safety sensor for the roof being totally retracted is going off. #5. a part needs to be ordered from California. #6. Wrong part ordered. #7. They now claimed they needed time to research How to fix the problem which was fine, because I had to travel but....... #8 Two months go by with no communication. I called and I stopped in. Import Minded has been a godsend and beyond good to me. They truly are the best shop I have been to, and have made a permanent customer out of me. Each experience I've had here has been absolutely perfect and zero frills. Knowledgeable service writers who will take the time to fully inspect and diagnose issues and source high-quality, OEM (or better) parts. Labor rate is reasonable and they have been very honest in charging for time. For example, being quoted a full hour of labor and it being adjusted to .3 hours at the time of the final invoice. They have picked me up from my apartment to help me pick up my vehicle following maintenance, performed small/easy services for free, the list goes on... and I've only been maybe 4-5 times now. I used to dread going to mechanics, and now feel much more comfortable and even excited to take my car in for services, knowing that they will take the time to properly diagnose issues and get my car running properly again each time, with each service performed at very reasonable prices or even out of good will. The customer service here is truly incredible. From Tedd and José in the office, to the owner who's name I am blanking on. They are all super friendly, which can be a bit of a rarity in this industry. The technicians are experienced, efficient, and respectful of the vehicles they work on. Import Minded checks all the boxes and will be my permanent mechanic for all my vehicles moving forward. read more

Took my car here to get repaired, long story short I spent about 5,000 + and they guaranteed it would run for 100k more miles. Not even 100 miles later my car broke down and needed to get towed back to them. They gave me an estimate for another 2,700 to fix the problem... I felt used and taken advantage of. Took my car to another repair shop and they told me it sounded like import minded were just guessing on the repairs and had no idea what was actually wrong with my vehicle. I don't get the Yelp hate. These guys have always given me solid, honest service at fair prices. I just took my car in for exhaust problems and they just changed a minor piece when they could have spun me a story and charged to replace a whole chunk. Even though the mechanic Brandon was forthright, I cannot say the same about the owner. His dishonest overcharging for hours worked on my Mercedes and lack of customer service will forever keep me from giving him my business again. A little professionalism and understanding goes a long way to keep loyal customers. It's all about the money for this guy. I would not recommend him or his shady ways of doing business. Stay very far away from Import Minded. I will tell all my family and friends that this place is a scam. $1300 later and my check engine light is still on. First time I was charged 6 hours of work which took 3 hours and second time $137 for 15 minutes of work and that's including them reading the diagnostic. Then, Import Minded quoted me $2200 to replace my radiator, however I went to Meyers Import and they did it for $1200 with honest and thorough work. Meyers Import quoted me 6 hours of work but got it done in 4.5 hours and charged me less than the quote. Now thats integrity and honest business! Only reason I went back to Import Minded the second time was for warranty work on the camshaft sensors which they did not do. I should have looked at the prior reviews before giving them my business in the first place. There's a reason why there are consistent bad reviews for this place. read more

My experience began when called in early this morning to make an appointment... they didn't ask me my name or anything, honestly I'm not even sure they even wrote it down in the shop because when I showed up at 4pm as planned, the guy at the front counter seemed like he had no clue there was a 4pm appointment. I then asked if anyone would need to drive my car prior to the alignment I "scheduled" and was told "no, they would only drive it after the alignment to make sure everything was ok". I asked if I could be in my vehicle when it was driven because it's running extremely rich and I didn't want anyone beating on it and the only way to make sure someone doesn't beat in a highly modified performance vehicle is to be in it, I was assured I would be in the car when it was driven so I went to sit get some coffee and sit down. While I was making my coffee I heard the car start up and start to move, I looked out the window and watched my car drive off down the street literally 3 minutes after I was assured I would be in it when it needed to be driven... asked another guy working there and he said it was protocol, why the first guy I spoke with assured me otherwise I don't know. Now when the car came back I watched the tech stall it out because the turbo timer was on and he parked it in gear but I figured a shop with the name "import minded" would know what a turbo timer does and how to work around it, I guess not... I offered to turn the turbo timer off multiple times basically suggesting I wanted to turn it off and was told "it's ok" but in retrospect it was clearly because he knew he was gonna weasel his way out of working on my car. I was then told my "whole suspension is junk and you can't take a turn without it clanking and popping" apparently import minded never seen a full locking rear differential before, when I explained what it was, the lethargic lackluster tech asked me "well what are you trying to accomplish" to which I replied "I just saw want an alignment and the pulling to the left to go away" He sighed, got back into my car and drove it onto the alignment rack, I went back into the waiting room and thought my car would be aligned and a few minutes later I heard my car get started again and pull back out, it pulled up right to the main entrance and the unprofessional, clueless, and obviously lazy technician got out of my car and said he can't do it because my car is "too low". I'm on lowering springs that lower the car by an inch, I am BY NO MEANS LOW, and I've had alignments from multiple places in the 12 almost 13 years I've owned the car with absolutely no issues... from mom and pop shops to dealerships, to specialty shops... nobody ever had a complaint or an issue but somehow a shop called import minded can't do it. Most unprofessional shop I've ever dealt with and none of my cars will ever see that shop, also this is my neighborhood shop, i hoped I would have a good experience and be able to take any of my 3 cars there when needed, but no, they proved themselves to be very unprofessional, lazy, and not worth bringing your car to. I'm pretty involved in the car community and people often ask me where to take their cars for things and I will be sure to tell people to avoid this shop at all costs. If I could give you zero stars, I would because the service was piss poor. read more

I USED to take my car here. I have no idea what happened to this place. $20 to drive my car, but not diagnosis the problem I knew for sure was coming off the right rear. They said they couldn't figure out the noise, but I could do a suspension tuneup for $580. It took a dealer 5 minutes to tell me the spring broke, cost of $150, installed. Back in the day, I could bring my car there, and they'd pull somebody to change my lightbulb quick. I have quite a few stories from there like that. They were helpful, didn't pull the 'bait and switch' like the other place did and I'm kicking myself for not taking it there in the first place. The must do some sort of performance work there too because I saw everything from old Toyota drag cars to a nice Mustang Shelby in there and they were all measuring the horsepower with a big roller in the floor. I thought I was lucky to find a shop that specialized in Honda's as I am not a Wisconsin resident. I left my car with the shop over night. They neglected to lock my doors and my car was ran sacked. I am not sure if it was a random act or if someone within the company stole from me. All of the cash and change in the car was taken. The car was ran sacked. I cannot believe that a company would leave someones vehicle unlocked while no one was there to mind it. The repair service was good and affordable. But not worth the stress and violation of privacy. I don't think any service manager (Loren) should ever say "get the fuck out of my store" to any customer just for being asked "why didn't you call me with an estimate?" (for a $175 repair) To his credit he first said he'd refund the money, which I really apprieciate, because I never demanded any money and was about ask if they'd give me a small discount or put credit towards fixing a different car that needed rear-end work, a win-win but would I really want these people working on my car again? Actually, everyone else but Loren was really helpful. Would I go there again? If you read this you know the answer. He should work on acting like a business man if he's running a business. Oh, and I was also told that the work order filled out by me where I checked "call me with an estimate before doing work on my car" was probably shredded. Why would anyone want to save documents that hold up in court? I can forgive and forget but being told to "get the fuck out of my store" is pretty bad. these people are very money hungry and was trying to force me to change a whole steering column for 3300$ well over what the dealership quoted me ! and all I needed done was a steering lock motor replaced. if your looking for a decent price cheeper than a dealership they're not the shop to go to, just trying to helpvpe from wasting their time , . I have never had a more pleasant experience with a car shop in my life. The staff is all about helping the customer and can be trusted to diagnose the problem and help find the best solution. I've been taking my car there since 2006 and have never been taken advantage of or felt that unnecessary work was being done behind my back to up the costs. I came in a couple months ago because my regular mechanic was unavailable and figured this would be the best place because of their name. Nope. I explained to them the problem. It took over an hr for them to tell they couldn't replicate the problem. I don't even think they drove the car out the lot. I need brakes they said. Yeah, the dashboard told you that. They 'found' clutch chatter. They just assumed since the mileage is around 45,000. Oh and I needed an oil change. They didn't even address the problem. So, I reluctantly gifted them $50 plus fees and tax. Did they fucking charge me for the hand towel the idiot use? So I left very pissed for having wasted time and money on those idiots and still didn't know what was wrong with my car. It's infuriating knowing you're being taken but there's just no point in arguing. There's no point with this kind of men that assume women don't know about cars. Stay away! I brought my car here for an oil leak and will never go back. Two visits and almost $2500 later, my car is still leaking. On the phone, they tell me they are replacing an oil pan, on my invoice I see an oil gasket. I have brought my car to a dealer/mechanic and they tell me the gasket needs to be replaced again. My sons 2006 Suzuki Forenza at 68,000 miles had been experiencing transmission slippage; check engine light was also intermittently illuminating, with sluggish excelleration. Obviously two issues here. Had read online that transmission range sensor was common issue with this vehicle. Had successful replacement of another sensor about a year ago at Import Minded, so I made the call. Spoke with service adviser Jeremy. Asked specifically for replacement of transmission range sensor. Told immediately how difficult it is for him to acquire parts for Suzuki-- he needs to go through Rosen, who gets the part from Japan-- bottom line may take weeks! Well, we can wait for a part if it means a repaired car. Agree to immediately bring it in for diagnostic knowing the $100.00 fee will get deducted from the repair cost. Check engine light is illuminating still as we pull into lot. Jeremy looks at me( a woman) and my 20 year old son and says "worst case scenario transmission is shot. Just a heads up". Hmm.? Jeremy calls me and says nothing is wrong with your sons car. Maybe your son knocked it out of drive with his knee. No I reply happened 3 times while I was driving. And what about the error code for check engine light? Jeremy said well it initially showed transmission failure but couldn't duplicate it. What?? So Jeremy says nothing is wrong BUT if you leave the lot and engine light goes on again and experience gear slippage, that means transmission is shot. Does not suggest getting further diagnostics and will need a used transmission replacement at about $1,500.00 plus $950.00 in labor. And Jeremy feels this is equal to the value of this Suzuki- so is not recommending it. O.K. So nothing is wrong? Or vehicle needs to be junked?? Something fishy here. AutoZone was able to read the codes that Import Minded had said mysteriously disappeared. And this was a free service. Oxygen sensor slow response and Transmission Range Sensor circuit malfunction. Service manager Jeremy , when questioned by my sons father, tells us he would NEVER be able to purchase range sensor replacement! Not even from Japan! Therefore cannot take the $100.00 fee we already gave him and deduct it from the cost of acquiring parts or repair. Little FISHY JEREMY since I specifically asked about this part replacement over the phone before driving to shop. Guess because I am a female all Jeremy heard was blah blah. Seems a bit illegal to me and told Jeremy this. I demanded he return the $100.00. Guess he felt threatened by a phone call from a 50 year old woman making demands. I received an official call from the police telling me to leave Jeremy alone. WOW! What a service manager! And too funny. On a happier note: TNS Transmission in Hales Corners were able to correctly diagnose the two issues and acquire both parts within hours. The complete repair was done in one day and at less than $400.00. A uplifting end to a horrible experience at Import Minded. Thanks again TNS Transmissions! read more

I'd give them a zero if I could. I had Import Minded change my oil and rotate my tires. Shortly after, the driver's side front tire fell off the car while traveling on the I-94. Someone failed to properly torque the lug nuts. This place is a complete rip-off. Besides poor service they are overpriced. read more

The short story: Garbage/negligent service at an overly expensive price! The long story: Took my car (99' Mazda 626) in to get some leaking fixed. Needed a valve cover gasket and radiator hoses (Cost: $1400). This car isn't my primary car and doesn't get driven that often, with that being said, about a week later I took it for a 1/2hr round-trip drive; it started overheating on the way to my destination. I let the engine cool down for 20-minutes, went to the gas station immediately and picked up antifreeze and oil (it was dark and I could not see which was low). The radiator took the entire bottle of antifreeze and was not full. The next day I took the car to a shop near my house, they found that the radiator hose was not attached to the radiator. I called Import Minded, they had the car towed to their shop where they reattached the hose and sent the car on its way, but the damage to the car had already been done! When I took it for a routine oil change (to the same shop that discovered the radiator hose was off) they found that the oil looked metallic and said that whoever had this car before you didn't take care of it, UNTIL I told him that I inherited this car, when my mom passed away, who bought it brand new and reminded him of the "Import Minded story" with the radiator hose and the tow; he remembered, retracted his statement and said that the engine burned up because of Import Minded's error. Of course, Import Minded is going to take no responsibility for their error but instead tried saying that it happened because I didn't get the oil pan gasket replaced like they recommended...The current mechanic said that's B.S. and that he hasn't noticed any oil pan leakage since he's had it for the past 2 days! read more

Do not take your Saab there!!!! We took our Saab in as it would go into limp home mode on the freeway after 45 minute drive. At time the new service manager told us they had the required software to read code on Saab's. we trusted them when they told us we needed a new transmission. We paid to have a used one put in. Same exact issue still happened after they replaced transmission, however. Went back to them and they told us they no longer had the diagnostic software for saabs after they did a system update. They tried to wash their hands of it. Only after some angry conversations, did they agree to reimburse us. By the way.... That new service manager? Gone after a couple of months. We now took our car to O Reilly's on 3rd and Cherry St. They needed to call Import Minded to ask if the torque converter was replaced with the transmission. The women who answered the phone said they never touched the transmission on our car!?!?! Say what???? So upset that I will be contacting Better Business Bureau now. read more
