This is my first visit to Greitens auto. They came highly recommended from a friend of ours and since my old mechanic retired, I said hey why not give them a try. It's the small shop just up from Story Hill BKC on the corner of W Bluemound and N Hawley in the Story Hill neighborhood. This is my new mechanic. Hands down solid and all-around great service. Let's start with what they do that I really appreciate. They take your car into their shop and give you a full-blown report of vehicle condition and then vehicle triage report. You can tell what needs immediate attention to what could wait, and you can then decide how you want them to handle repairs. This report is downloadable so you can store it and keep it on digital file. So far in my book that's a win. Next on to the repairs. Despite needing quite a bit of work, Greitens was honest and reasonably priced. I really don't think I could ask for much more coming to this shop for the first time. Our 2013 Edge has about 100K miles on it and was long overdue from some TLC. We brought it here and they gave it the full treatment it needed and now it's back and ready to run another 100K miles. I'll be bringing our other car for service come the time that's for sure. Easy to drop off with an appointment and easy to pickup when they called to let me know repairs were done. Stay away! We brought car with two issues: Known leak of coolant liquid. They did pressure test, charged us 134$, told us that there is coolant leak (which we knew as it was reason why we came there), based on "color" of coolant they determined that "stop leak" product was used (and I did not use such product), and based on that said they can not fix it as it "may leak again". Idiotic experience. Second issue was broken CV joint boot. They looked up part, stated it is 2000$ and will take 1 month to get here from Germany. Yet US Audi sells this for 831$ with 2-4 day shipping. Moral of this: you will get charged for "inspection" and they do not want or plan to fix anything. Other that oil change or tire change, I would stay away from this place! read more

I had my first visit to Greitens to have my vehicle's emission tested. I had no appointment and just basically pulled into the lot, parked and walked into the office. I was warmly greeted by a gentleman who I subsequently learned was the owner, Kevin Burke. With my vehicle registration in hand and a questioning look on my face, before I even finished my sentence to ask him if he had time to conduct the emission test, Kevin smiled and told me, "No problem. Give me your keys, grab a cup of coffee (pointing to the coffee pot, cups, creamers and accoutrements on a counter) and have a seat." I was impressed by the cleanliness of the office, the counter area, and the beautiful pine T&G paneling on the back wall. I was most impressed, though, with the friendliness and down to earth attitude of Kevin, and appreciated that there was no attempt made at up-selling or scheduling maintenance work, which we have all probably found to be the case with other emission test locations. read more

I hit an object on the expressway on my way to work. At lunch, I found the tire pressure was down. Nervous about my 84 mile trip back home, I stopped into Greitens. They helped me immediately without an appointment. After taking a test drive and checking out the tire, they filled it up (and the others) and told me it should give me no further trouble. The tire didn't seem to be damaged. I was still a bit nervous but drove home without no trouble at all. It's been several weeks and I'm happy to report that all is still fine. Should I have any other issues while I'm in the area, this would be the only place I'd go. Highly recommend!! read more

I have been going here for years, going back to when Dick Greiten operated it as a Standard Gas Station with auto repair. This is an honest auto repair shop with very capable mechanics who can fix just about anything, and if they can't, they will give you recommendation of where to go. I have always had timely, reasonable and great service from Kevin and his crew. If you want an honest, reliable place to have your car fixed or serviced, this is the place to go. Called to set up an emission test because Bluemound automotive no longer does them. It was very easy to schedule the appointment. After talking to my husband, he wanted to change the appointment time. It was very easy to call back and get that changed. The employees are patient and friendly. We were in and out in about five minutes from start to finish. Big parking lot. Best part? It is next to Tavo's Restaurant. You can drop your car off here for work and go right next-door to a fantastic Mexican place while waiting. read more

I take my car to Greiten's Auto Service for every from oil changes to major engine work. They're trustworthy and reasonable, and any work they can't do, they'll refer you to someone who can. I would use Greiten's regardless of where I lived in Southeastern Wisconsin. Highly recommended. read more

I had a good experience with Greitens Auto Service this week. Went there because they've generally received good online reviews, and are pretty close to my house. My new-ish car was making a noise, so I took it to a dealer (different from where I bought it, which is out of town), they said it needs a new alternator, which they would be happy to do in exchange for me giving them a lot of money. I wanted a second opinion, and to pay less, so I took it to Greiten's. They said "it sure seems to be the alternator" and quoted me a more reasonable price to fix it. I said go ahead. They called later in the day to say that they put a new alternator in, but were getting a similar (though not exactly the same) noise. Tried another, same thing. Wanted to order a third from a different manufacturer, but would be a few days to get it. In the meantime, they'd put the original back in and I could drive the car, no problem. Haven't charged me a penny yet. A few days later, the new one came in. Brought the car back in, and again... same noise. So they apologized that they weren't able to make the noise go away, and said they could try a few more things to get the problem diagnosed. I said "Let's hold off for now, I'm going to try taking it to the dealer where I bought the car" thinking maybe there was some sort of defect in the manufacturing that the dealer might be aware of, or they'd cut me a deal or pull a warranty exemption (the car is out of warranty due to mileage, though it's within the "time" warranty). Greiten's said "Perfectly understandable, no problem." I said what do I owe you for everything you've done so far?" They said "Nothing. We couldn't fix it, so we aren't going to charge you." (Other than for some unrelated maintenance work I had them do.) I even said "You have to let me pay you something, you must have spent at least 5 or 6 hours on this," and they refused to charge me, and were as nice as could be about it. So, while the problem wasn't fixed, I believe it would have been had I let them diagnose it further. But I do feel like I was treated fairly and that they were being honest with me about the whole thing, and that they could have easily charged me for the time they've put in so far, or just flat-out lied about what the problem is and charged me even more. Bottom line is I feel like i have a mechanic now that I can trust. And if the dealer doesn't work out, I'll take it back into Greiten's and we'll see what they can do with it. read more

I pulled into the parking lot and noticed a "freedom isn't free" neon sign. "Cool", I think, they're patriotic. I walk into the building and the, customers and workers-mostly white males, all white people - looked up at me. I asked an older gentleman about emissions testing, he said they did it by appointment then offered me a slot that was a couple of hours later, saying that there were three people in front of me. Which was odd, because I've had emissions tests before and there's no way it'll take a couple of hours. I declined, telling him if I couldn't find an alternative I'd be back. He said okay and goodbye. Then some random dude, who I was not talking to said "Bye", but what I heard was "good ridding". His tone was sarcastic and when I turned to look him in the eyes he was not looking at me. Instead he was smiling at another dude as if he'd done something he was proud of. Recently moved here from California had issues with my truck..... I made an appointment and when I showed up I felt like a VIP . In 20 minutes I had an email with pictures and message and a detailed estimate on the work. However when I called the dealership and request an estimate for the same work it was actually $700 cheaper and that included paying for a tow.... Pretty sure the extra half an hour I spent was worth $700 read more

I had an excellent experience at Greitens. I needed an oil change / tune up before a long drive, and Mike was especially friendly and helpful (and honest!) in prioritizing my car's needs (urgent, necessary, recommended). They loaned me a car so I could go to work while they worked on my car, and I found the prices and service to be competitive. Definitely recommend this place for your auto work! I most like it when I call and staffers know who I am and which cars are mine esp. Kevin b/c he handles most communication. I haven't price shopped service shops but my homework from years past suggested that you guys are a good value. IMBO you guys can turn around repairs is good time and I'm never disappointed with communication and managing expectations. What could you do better? I like the email communication but I don't often need the messages you send. I really stretching here but I would like to know what problems are typical of my cars and if there are any proactive measures i can take--maybe recalls too. I've always had good luck at Grietens. The price is always fair and the service is very good. I always send my friends that are new to the area to them, as the area is safe and there is a lot of things to see and do in the area while you wait for your car. read more

Initially thought they were a trustworthy shop, but was let down when I took it there a second time. Made an appointment for 9am on one day, got it in at 11am due to tow truck issues. They didn't even end up looking at the car until mid afternoon the next day. Couldn't even fix it so had to get it towed to a different shop. Charged me $60 for not doing anything.
