I've been working with Alex for a little over a month now and I cannot describe how much better I feel, how much more I'm able to do, and how much confidence Alex has restored in me. He is so knowledgeable and so very gentle, especially when he knew how many months I was inactive because of pain, and how fragile I felt. I can't thank him enough for all he's done for me. Alex slowly added exercises that were exactly what I needed, and he explained them clearly and made sure I was doing them properly. I had seen a physical therapist at a different business for years and she moved to the mainland. I randomly chose Imua Physical Therapy (Dr. said their business so I felt he trusted them). Imua Physical Therapy is phenomenal!!!! I'm there for a knee ailment and they assessed me and then began introducing exercises that are incredibly helping my knee pain. I expressed I didn't want to do too much twisting regarding my knee and Alex EASILY modified my exercises with exercises that has significantly improved my knee strength, legs strength and all regions of my legs and core. They clearly know what they're doing, you just have to express any concerns and they will present you with exercises that will greatly improve your strength and health. They will ask you how you feel and if you have any concerns of pain or discomfort AND they will modify exercises to help you build strength and muscle without hesitation. I am very impressed with them and will continue to do any treatment with the Kihei staff. My knee pain is gone and my legs are becoming muscular again. All thanks to Alex and the staff. You will notice a theme among the reviews about the owner, Tiffany. First & for most let me pay respect where it's due to my lymphatic massage therapist who no longer works there Samantha. She helped my condition tremendously though her massage therapy. Went through 2 complete therapy sessions under her care at two different locations. When the time came for needing a third session I had to see Tiffany. Not only was her technique Horrible, inaffective & painful...her attitude was rude, unprofessional and downright racist! She said horrible things about me to fellow therapist right outside the room I was left in waiting for her. My previous experience the lymphatic drainage massage sessions lasted almost an entire hour. With Tiffany it was 15-20 min tops with no results. When applying the wraps she would forget to use components of the lymphatic wraps until she was "done" wrapping my legs and the leftover foam, sleeves & other components were there unused. She would be like "Oops. Ok all done." She over billed my insurance who refused to pay, charging in the case of 4 visits 3x as more than I was ever charged before for a session. One day while waiting for my appointment there was raised voices as a Kūpuna gentleman came limping out of one of the rooms accusing Tiffany of saying dirogitory & racist comments about him to her employees while he was left waiting for his therapy. He even shamed her for exploiting his culture using it in the name of her business. Not the way to conduct business here in Hawai'i. Furthermore she had unkind things to say about myself to Maui canines for Independence employee, not knowing the individual she was making the statements about me too was a long time aqantance who I work with at that organization. She also failed in filling out the paperwork for me to get a sequential leg sleeve pump to treat my condition at home. After MONTHS of calling, appointment and headaches of rude unoleast dealing, I just bought one myself. I would like to add that the Kihei receptionist was lovely and kind, full of Aloha! The Wailuku receptionist was vile! I was still in session with Tiffany, my ride came in to see if I was ready to be picked up and the receptionist told them "I will let him know you're here." I get out of my session in horrible pain barely able to walk. Sit in the reception area & wait for 20 minutes before my ride comes back in the office. "Didn't she tell you I was outside?" We both look at the receptionist, the phone did not ring but she rolls her eyes and picks up the phone acting like it did. Real professional. You have options on Maui when it comes to Physical therapy. Give your business & trust your health to those who will treat you properly, with the dignity & respect you deserve. read more

So grateful for Imua Physical Therapy! My back seized up while on vacation. I was in a lot of pain and had very reduced range of motion. I called and talked with Ella at the front desk. She was extremely helpful and found an appointment with Alex for physical therapy in Kihei and a second appointment for a massage with Sarah. Alex reviewed my intake forms and MRIs and was able to provide treatment that greatly relieved the pain and increased my mobility. He is very knowledgeable, skilled, and caring. She has unicorn like capabilities. Had this awesome PT there before the pandemic Leda Jellum. Recently re injured myself and found she left. First PT I got totally inappropriate. Second one I thought I could make it work except although I insisted and my referral said lower back he with blinders on insisted it wasn't and was hips. Well I just blew out L4. Now do you believe me? My Doc of 40 years is out of network but I paid out of pocket to go. He insisted this never should have happened several months into PT for lower back and urged me to change PT. I left several messages at Imua for my PT to discuss the injury and where to go from here. I'm being ghosted. Wait! Your patient is in pain and having trouble walking and you ghost them? My PCP was right. I need to leave skid marks going out the door. My PT was also the manager. read more

Grateful for finding this place through yelp and fb. The instructor is gentle and sweetheart. She is patient and works with your . The class is in a nice studio air conditioned. Although only a few people show its great that class is small. She worked with your strength and shows techniques to practice breathing. Also it's a non judge mental ambiance. I was referred to Imua Physical Therapy due to worker's compensation, I had absolutely no desire to be touched but I just sucked it up and did as I was told. Well to my surprise, I'm absolutely loving it! This place is so warm and welcoming. They were so patient and understanding with my desires not to be touched. They gently and lovingly worked on finding out the root cause of me not wanting to be touched, and they're working me through the stages and steps explaining everything that was being done so that I could understand how each touch would assist in getting me as close to the old, but new me. I look forward to my visits and making plans to continue my massage in the future. I with out a doubt would highly suggest Imua Physical Therapy. I only had the pleasure of meeting and being treated for lymphedema by Tiffany and Emily while on Maui for 8 days, but both were AMAZING! The treatments were phenomenal and I felt so much better after each treatment which allowed my wife and I to be able to enjoy our trip without having to avoid doing the things we wanted to do. Worst PT experience ever. They sold me a hip belt that was too small, an exercise ball that was too big for me, a TENS unit and never showed me how to use it. They traded me around. Four therapists in two years and never got better. One therapist (Christina) told me I was WASTING HER TIME. Tiffany Pragnell, if you had no idea how to help me, why did you squander two years (2017 and 2018) of my PT insurance benefits? One session of PT with a different clinic in 2019 has made it clear that you only made my situation worse with all that repetitious stretching. Shame on you. I would like to be reimbursed for the equipment I have bought from you that was inappropriate. If I could get back the two years of pain you let me let me endure we might be even. read more

Imua was wonderful and going great until the owner Tiffany got involved. Tiffany has no compassion for the patients. The therapists are wonderful and I was making such strides! Now I can hardly walk and I can't get appointments. Tiffany basically FIRED me. I was not banned but with no notice at all she said I could not keep my next 3 appointments. I was near tears. After speaking with many people able this I learned others had had really rough times w the owner Tiffany too. So I'm not alone. I often edit my many reviews to let you know how things are going and to be fair. I had to cancel some appointments and some were at last minute. It was due to one of my disabilities each time. But she wouldn't even discuss it. My drs are going to stop referring patients w multiple problems like me to go there. I may try and talk to Tiffany again but she made it very clear thru Trish she was canceling all my upcoming appointments and to drop it!! It's a shame really. All the therapists are great!!! I am glad the Drs will not refer them to IMUA because was happened to me violates my rights. They were absolutely discrimatory and I'm considering taking action as my dr recommended. We'll see. I'm still in shock About not being able to go in and see Victiria. Obviously the owners know nothing, nor care, of my disabling conditions The only reason they got a 3 was Victoria should be rated a five but even she was at a loss when this happened. I'm in a lot of pain. They want me to take the review down. But this happened weeks ago and I've only been given one appointment and the other one was cancelled. I'm voicing my opinion because my health and pain are so at risk. You wonder why I don't just leave? Because they are giving me false hope. Supposedly we have a 2 an treatment plan starting. We'll see. But this was a real bully act to pull on me and I find it very disturbingly wrong. Thank you for allowing me to post what happened to me. I was referred to Imua for a knee injury. I went on my appointment day and time, and was warmly greeted by the receptionist. My physical therapist was Christian Roy. Christian was immediately friendly and welcoming. He asked questions to determine a course of treatment, and fully explained this course. I had confidence in his understanding of my fears, and in his course of treatment. He made sure I was an active participant in the action plan to relief and recovery. I sincerely recommend Christian Roy to you ! If you want a PT who is highly competent, friendly and interested in your best recovery, go see him! You will not be disappointed. I have been patient at the Wailuku office for several weeks receiving help for neck and back injuries sustained in a car accident. From the moment you walk in the door Julianna is personable warm and professional, Alyana has been my PT during this time and she has helped me more than any other PT I have used on the island. Five star care. From everyone from the receptionist to the physical therapist, these people care about your well-being. It's too bad health insurance doesn't realize that a lot of our medical needs could be healed through this type of therapy rather than pain meds and surgery. I'mua gets it. They look at each individual case. You are not treated like just another number. Each facility is run with the same efficiency and care. The physical therapists are all extremely caring and friendly. Unfortunately, I experienced an inexcusable act of unprofessionalism. First, my PT had me doing the SAME exercises for several weeks and then had the audacity to recommend I come in 3x weekly-I wasn't getting better. Second, during one of my last visits, I heard my PT fighting on the phone with (I guess) her boyfriend. I heard everything. She left me on the bike for 25 minutes when initially she wanted me to warm up for 5 minutes. This place sucks! The PTs are inexperienced, many are new grads with no experience. I understand it's hard for Hawaii to get quality, skilled clinicians because HI doesn't pay them fairly. I actually got better, caring service from the Kaiser PTs. Good luck out there. read more
