This is really nice, and makes a massive difference, and that's what really pushes Leaf to that five star level. The coffee is great, great baristas, consistent quality. Decor is really nice, and you can walk right out to the back balcony also. I have never eaten here, but imagine it would be consistent with the rest of the experience, and I've never seen the place without a diner (normally there are a few). Tucked away in suburbia, Leaf is a an excellent escape from the rush of daily life. In fact I have considered stopping drinking coffee, but have had the issue of wondering what drink I can switch to, in order to ensure I have a reason to stop off here at Leaf.

Even the frontage seemed initially unassuming. Leaf Espresso Bar sits at the end of a very short row of shops, so enjoys a corner office with outdoor decking, umbrella protected al fresco seating. It's only when you walk past the counter and kitchen that you get a glimpse of the Nordic interior design elements within - round glass globe bulbs dangle like snow globes from between the massive tree branch suspended from the ceiling and the Christmas ornaments still attached to the branch. Coffees that Saturday morning seemed extremely popular, so it made sense that Mr Barista would face out towards the clientele to maximise his cheeky smile and warm 'What can I get you?'. Oh, if only I wasn't a married woman... But at 8am, coffee should never be a wallflower - breakfast is practically compulsory on an empty stomach. Leaf Espresso Bar's breakfast selection is wide and varied. For the simple breakfast customer, there were a selection of Danishes, croissants (regular, icing sugar dusted and chocolate) and muffins on top of the cool display. We picked up a chocolate croissant, a blueberry muffin and a custard latticed pastry to take to the in-laws for morning tea. The croissant doesn't have that crisp buttery flake that reminds one of dry autumn leaves as a very traditional croissant, but it is still quite light and fluffy. And the custard latticed pastry didn't last 2 seconds. If you wanted to up it a notch, there were sausage rolls, sandwiches and bacon and egg muffins that one could order to be heated and consumed on-site or whisked away in a paper bag. But if you really wanted to go super swanky, you can order off the menu. The menu items are by no means ho-hum. There were the classics - raisin toast with maple butter, mix and match muesli with seasonal fruit, avocado on toast with ricotta and lemon... And then there's the slightly fancy smancy stuff - breakfast bruschetta (sardines with caper, dill, radish and lemon relish or poached pear and almond with cinnamon creme friache), mushroom medley wilted spinach with parmesan and poached egg on ciabatta and balsamic glaze, etc.

This is a great place for catching up with friends for a coffee. The coffee is supplied by Toby's estate & is made perfectly! Everything you see is for sale, so once you finish eating & had your coffee, you can have a wander around & see if there's anything you might want to take home with you! Food-wise, there's much to choose from including the amazing Acai bowls which I will have to try next time. They cater to people who have intolerances to gluten, lactose & have good vegetarian & some sugar free options also! I love how they have soy, almond, coconut, rice & lactose free milk! Awesome! Not many cafes do that. Organic is also available where possible. Today I ordered the savoury mince with a poached egg & sourdough bread ($14.50) / ($12.50) without egg. It was so yummy, & I was definitely full after that! Breakfast runs till 2pm, & lunch begins from 10.30am. They are open Tuesday-Friday 7am-4pm & Saturday-Sunday 7am-3pm and have free wifi, & you can also book the place for private functions. I was in my car so I couldn't really see much except some tables and chairs inside. The simple shop name read Vintage Kitchen & Vintage Closet. Sounded kind of hipster, which I liked. I couldn't stop so kept on going. On the way back home, however, I passed it once again and decided to stop in even if only to see what it was. I was very pleasantly surprised to see it was a lovely combination of cafe and op shop. It's a fantastic place, particularly interesting considering its location. Coorparoo isn't really known for its artsy cafe so it stands out. What I loved about it was how [seemingly] effortlessly the place looked cool. Clearly someone went through a lot of trouble to make it so, yet it's not pretentious. There are tables and chairs around the room and some racks with clothes at the back. There are trinkets, hats, decorations and jewellery also for sale. As I went to sit down I noticed that, yes, the tables and chairs were also for sale. Basically, if you like what you see then you can go ahead and buy it. There's even a Sega game in the corner that you can play. Another nice touch is that they also hold free live music every now and then. You should check their website to see who's on and when. I haven't been to a music night but I'm sure it would be great. Something needs to be said for the arrogance of the owner, Alberto Alarti…read more 1. The cafe wears his name, which is fine. However, it also has a cartoon portrait of him as the business's logo. This was the first sign that Alberto had tickets on himself. 2. If you look at the business card, the first detail is "Alberto Alarti: Barista". Sure, baristas play a central role in a coffee shop, but I can't be the only one who thinks this is a bit much. Of the cafe business cards I've collected recently, Alberto's Shot is the only one that celebrates the work of one man (who I haven't ever seen work as the barista when I've been there). 3. It takes a certain sort of man to think that when his baristas screw up a coffee order (which is irregular here), he can abuse them in front of all of the customers and think his cafe won't suffer for it. It's not his barista's meagre mistakes that will ruin his business into the ground, it's his behaviour. It makes for an uncomfortable experience. I always want to go and hug the baristas afterwards, pat their hair and tell them it's going to be ok. Outside of this, Alberto's Shot is a good place to come for a caffeine hit (standard flat white/cap/latte is $3.80). The food's not bad either- the servings are huge. It's right down near the river on Cordeaux Street and offers a great place to seek refuge from those searing Brisbane summer days. The seating is predominantly outdoors (only 4 seats inside) which simply forces you to lap up the cool breeze that comes in off the river. Most of their business comes from residents of of Hill End and people going to and fro the ferry. It's best to visit this cafe outside of peak hours to avoid crowds, long waits, and the possibility of seeing Alberto flying off the handle.

Actually without sounding like a total addict, I highly recommend buying a 12 starter pack of sorts, this will give you a small introduction into the wide world of Greek sweets and give you an opportunity to suss out your favourites. Well at Vue, it exists; it actually exists. They have a carpeted wall with this funky design and the décor and colours of the place just remind me of coffee. Everything is black or brown or mocha and reflects a cool, trendy, and vibrant atmosphere. If coffee could take on a tangible décor form, this would be it. Putting aside the furnishing and décor for a second, the food itself was wonderful. I started off with garlic pizza and it had a real kick with a great burst of fresh flavour. The staff were also very attentive and cleared away plates as soon as we were done, always asking if we had enjoyed our courses. Essentially, I felt like I was being looked after, and it was nice. Merthyr Road is a really great and lively strip and Vue takes the cake in a really classy way. I recommend it for an intimate dinner with a fresh twist.
