I'm sorry I trusted them. I read about this business and followed them on instagram, totally…read morebuying into the idea of a sustainable, regenerative landscape (I still do). I saved for 2 years to be able to hire them to do my yard. The consultants they sent out were thoughtful and seemed to know what they were doing. Then they sent out contractors to do the work, who were friendly enough and hard working. I did have some concerns with the depth of the rain garden they dug (3 ft deep in solid clay) but they acted like they knew what they were doing. So I trusted them. When they were finished it was so pretty, and the lead worker patiently instructed me on caring for the plants they'd installed. The rain garden basin had been filled in with substrate and was then about 1 ft deep. I was anxious for rain to come so I could see it in action. Three weeks later the rain did come and the rain garden filled up with water as expected. However, on day 4 it was still full. It was supposed to drain within a day. I bailed about 30 gallons out of it on day 5 and emailed SOG requesting some gravel. They sent me sand, which I mixed into the substrate they'd already installed. They offered to send someone out and I declined, fearing they would send out the same people who'd installed this mess and I didn't want them to make it worse. In the meantime, the plants began to rot and the pond smelled like a sewer. I emailed them once more requesting gravel and replacement plants. They sent me big river rocks and 3 replacement plants. It's been 2 months since the installation. I have spent another $700 so far on gravel and other materials to encourage drainage. I dug a trench slanting away from the basin, but the rain garden has never emptied out. It smells like a sewer and mosquitoes are breeding in it. When I reached out to SOG one more time, they offered to send out a consultant once a month for a fee of $291 an hour. All I wanted was for them to help me fix their mistake. I certainly do not need advice from someone as clueless as I was when I hired them. For some reason my location comes up as Toronto. That is incorrect.

Total scam. I expressed my budget of $10-$15k, paid a $2,500 fee to get started, months go by, so…read morewe miss the seasonal window to start work, like three zoom calls, then comes the final call with the install estimate. $65,000. What. The. Actual. F*ck. Who does that? Why would you do that? I get a little upselling, but FIVE TIMES the client's budget? It sounds like SoG is in the business of taking design fees, delivering some doodles, and that's it. I'm out a good chunk of my budget for nothing. Zero stars if that were possible.

I'm having erosion and drainage issues on my property and, based on a recommendation on Nextdoor I…read moredecided to contact Shady Grove for an estimate. First they couldn't come out until November (almost 1.5 months) just to do the estimate. Then, they have a $2500 minimum for doing work ("we're a small company", they said). In my particular case the budget/minimum might not be an issue (I don't think it's a small job). Got them to come out next week because my issue is somewhat urgent. About twenty minutes later they called back and said I was already in their database. They don't know why. The last time I had any landscape work done was several years ago, and it was not by Shady Grove. They assure me it's because they've already come out to provide an estimate. But they have no other records. They only have my name and contact information. So, because I'm in their system, they wanted to charge $75 because they "must" have come out before... No thanks. I am an fairly organized person. On a lark I searched my email history and, lo and behold, I find the email thread with Shady Grove. From 2011. Where I *CANCELED* my appointment. So, because of their poor record keeping and a need for $75 not only did they lose an entire project but they also earned a negative review and lost any potential for future work. In the grand scheme of things looking at their other reviews on other sites it's clear that they do quality work. But I can't deal with this kind of silly shenanigans.

We recently hired SG to do some landscaping, hardscaping and water management and drainage design…read moreand they were a dream to work with. They worked with us to create options that balanced cost and complexity, drew out a plan before beginning so we knew exactly what we'd get, and didn't freak out when we asked for changes. They also arrived on time and completed everything according to schedule. What sets SG apart for me, though, is their high level of taste and design and their incredible attention to detail. Whenever Fern saw something that was not up to her exacting standards (even if we thought it was fine) she would have her team break it down and start over. As a result we are extremely happy with the result and recommend them highly. After seeing so many landscaping companies with mixed reviews, I'm really happy we found the gold standard.
