To the mysterious individual who looked at a warm, inviting gym and thought, "You know what this place needs? The ambiance of an outpatient surgery center." Congratulations. You have accomplished what decades of New Year's resolutions could not: you've made me less excited to come to the gym. The rich maroon and blue walls gave this place personality. They made it feel energetic, comfortable, and welcoming. Now I walk in expecting someone to hand me a clipboard, ask for my insurance card, and tell me the MRI machine is down the hall. Did someone lose a bet? Was there a clearance sale on "Corporate Beige Despair?" Did a committee gather around paint swatches and unanimously declare, "Let's remove every ounce of warmth from the building"? This gym has always been one of the reasons I've stayed a member for years. It had character. It felt alive. Now it feels like the waiting room where enthusiasm goes to die. Whoever approved this color scheme owes the old walls a formal apology. Please. Bring back the warmth. My muscles don't mind the workout, but my eyeballs are filing a grievance. read more

I'm on the Wellhub app which allows me to visit any gym across the country. After relocating to Sacramento CA from NYC and then AZ I was highly disappointed in the gyms in Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, and Roseville. Then I found In Shape in Folsom and felt like I found my gym... finally. Things I look for in a gym are: Punching bags (there's 2 one outside and one inside) the inside one has been removed the last few days... I hope they fix it. I also look for a steam room and sauna, and of course a pool. I also love that they have a smoothie bar with great ingredient options which are fairly priced. read more

Best club they have by far. Only serious downside is if you're a sauna person..it is usually around 140 daily . Not much hotter than outside...other clubs it sits at 180-190 where it should be. You really don't benefit from it. read more

Big gym! This is the biggest location I've seen. Too bad we don't live close by because this is the nicest In-Shape location I've seen. It's really big, 2 stories of workout space filled with equipment, classrooms, basketball courts, racket ball courts, smaller but decent sized locker rooms with saunas per gender, 3 big swimming pools outdoors with a hot tub/spa, and a shared steam room. We especially liked the rock climbing wall out in the front and it's quite nice as the hours provided for that is quite generous. The only thing about this Folsom location is that it's quite crowded even on a weekday so I imagine it would be very crowded on the weekends. Summer hours are weekdays 4a-10p, weekends 7a-9p. Overall, we are impressed by all the space and activities offered. And most importantly, it's the cleanest location we've seen, day and night difference against the Elk Grove locations at Bond and Laguna. read more

Nice branch of In-Shape, makes me envious as we live about 45 minutes from Folsom, so we cannot come regularly and it would be a "field trip" to come here. The 2 closest large gyms closest to the size of Folsom in my area are Elk Grove Bond and Elk Grove Laguna. In comparison, they look and feel like 3rd-world countries compared to Folsom's In-Shape gym, with its general cleanliness, vast expanse of space over 2 floors, with three big outdoors pools including an Olympic sized lap pool, AND a spa/hot tub, sauna for each gender and the men's locker room was decent sized too. Especially the shower area, it is much cleaner than in either Elk Grove locations any time of the day. My son enjoyed the rock climbing wall and the hours of availability for the wall is so much more at Folsom than at Laguna which is the only reasonably close location with rock-climbing for us. Sad that there's such discrepancy. Basketball courts were under remodeling w/flooring getting replaced at Folsom when we visited, but otherwise, the gym was in good shape, this should be the standard at all locations. read more

I like this In-Shape because there is a sauna in the women's locker room. They also open later than the Rancho Cordova location that does not have a women's sauna and REALLY old machines. Even their lockers are old, dirty and warping inside of them. Depends on who is staffed, they either can be really nice or really rude. Their pool area is also really nice. Even in the winter I see a good handful of people out there swimming and in the hot tub. read more

Stopped in a couple weeks back. The staff was not really very welcoming and kind of made me feel uncomfortable. We walked around they showed me the all they had to offer. Not impressed with the machines some of which were broke others seemed old. Also, not as clean as it should be. I am a membership contract with In-Shape. An adult man (special needs) was brought into the womens sauna and womens locker room while my minor daughter was present using both facilities. The woman brought the man into the sauna and proceeded to take off some of his clothes for him. My daughter left the sauna and communicated this to me. I went into the locker room to take my things and was addressed by the man. I left and alerted the on site manager, Cortney. Cortney said she already advised the caregiver who brought the man in the womens locker room of the policy so her job was done. I told her the woman caregiver was ignoring her, the manager, and the policy. I told Cortney that the woman caregiver and the man she was caring for was still lingering in the locker room putting on makeup as we were speaking. Cortney, the manager, said there was no problem since the man was 'non-verbal and mentally impaired' and refused to address the issue further. The impaired man being cared for should not be put in that situation, nor the other women patrons in the club. I told Cortney that her action and non-action was not satisfactory and I wished to report this incident to her management or corporate. She refused to share any contact information I requested in order to report. Thereafter I removed my daughter from my membership and was subsequently penalized a 10 dollar penalty soley for the action of dropping her from the membership. read more

Tried a new location, outside my usual Elk Grove In Shape Fitness. Upon entering the customer service was decent. The facility appeared clean but they didn't have enough spray bottle's centrally located to wipe the machines. I also noticed that many of the patrons didn't wipe the machines after use. The ambiance was cool. The facility's indoor space seemed to be twice the size of their Elk Grove location and they had far more equipment. I hope that with the name change, comes renovations and newer equipment, especially at the Elk Grove branches. read more

Use to be a good place to work out a few years ago. Now it seems like it's always packed. Looks like they are overselling on their memberships. Machine are dirty and not well maintained. They don't really seem to invest in the equipment. When I tried to cancel. The cancellation policy changed and it would cost an arm and leg to cancel. Make sure you read the fine print when signing up here. Or better yet...do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. You will save yourself the future headache. read more

I was emailed about my experience, so here's what I put: The gym has a mix of new and outdated equipment. I wish it included more of the machines I keep seeing on my TikTok feed, especially those that target legs and could benefit both men and women. It feels like key pieces are missing. I'm also frustrated by people not wiping down machines, especially when they're sick--it's unhygienic. Another issue is people sitting on machines for long periods without using them. I can usually finish a full workout in 45 minutes, but sometimes it takes two hours because I'm waiting around. It might help to have a trainer occasionally walk through the upstairs area to remind members to be more considerate. Lastly, the upgraded rooms with the TRX gear seem underused and honestly feel like a waste of money. read more

I'm honestly shocked to see the amount of poor reviews because every time I visit this gym I have great experiences. The machines are clean and functional (I've only seen one broken leg press but they have plenty more to use), the staff are incredibly helpful and nice, and the gym itself is spacious enough with all the amenities. Even when it's peak hours at the gym, they have plenty of machines to use so that I can still get a good workout in. I also really love the natural lighting since most gyms have like 1 tiny window and zero air flow. I want to specifically mention that yesterday at In-Shape I couldn't figure out how to use one of their glute machines and one of the managers noticed me looking confused and immediately came up to help me. I was so relieved that he helped me out and was impressed by their customer service. Anyways don't listen to the cranky Karens around here and give this place a try! read more

It is clean. It is huge. The staff are nice. But....they are clearly understaffed. Can't knock them for that but machines are broken and have been since LAST YEAR. yes they've been reported. Not sure if the maintenance staff just pretends to fix them or not but they aren't fixed. There are shady people parked outside the pool for hours at a time. A motorhome parked directly outside the emergency exit of the KID pool. Yes I said a motorhome parked with a view of the pools. And it's been that way for months. Gym is well overpriced for what you get. Here you'll experience many outdated machines that are often broken for weeks on end. The amenities like the sauna and steam room will also go out for months on end, be fixed for a couple weeks, then go out for another month. This gym should be no more than $15 a month but instead you're paying far more than that. I suggest finding a different gym nearby where equipment and amenities are maintained and consistently working. read more

Can't go lower, I have been a member for 30 years, opened this place when it opened, loved Cal Fit until they decided to sell to this new owner, it was heading in the toilet then and then this new owner bought it and slapped some new paint on this dump sight. You can not talk to anyone in this company, they have a manger, who is a yes man and sends out the same canned email to you, such personal touch. This gym has zero rules of any kind and if they do they do not enforce them, they do have some good people, but for the most part, the people working the front desk are very busy working their phones, so feel free to just sneak in, they are not looking, most of the equipment is on it's last legs, most of it either broken for months or not working properly. Many people come here just to lounge on the equipment working their phones and since there is zero rules not a lot you can do, must be very hard to fill the hand sanitizer, because most of the times they are empty, the locker room is another story, like a bomb site always dirty, disgusting and filthy, never see anyone go through and clean anything ever. But every year they raise my cost to offer me the same garbage as the previous year, because the bottom line is the money, that is why it is so BAD!!!!! I will tell you something they do well, because my expertise in marketing, they like to push the give money campaign with full commitment to what ever cause they are pushing. IF IN-SHAPE FITNESS PUT THE SAME EFFORT IN RUNING THE PLACE PROPERLY, THEN THIS WOULD BE A GREAT GYM AGAIN!!!! Gym itself is really not bad. A lot of equipment was broken for awhile but they seem to have gotten a handle on it. Really it's the clientele that can be frustrating. If you like watching someone sit on the piece of equipment you want to use scrolling on their phone for 5-10 minutes between sets (not an exaggeration), then this is for you. There are not a lot of duplicates on many types of machines so when someone takes 20-30 minutes on one piece of equipment, it can really mess up your workout. If the gym would enforce rules about no phone use while sitting on equipment, that would be a huge improvement. read more

Almost to 5, 80-85% of Lifetime Fitness at less than 1/3 their absurd cost. Off the bat this gym sampled on multiple days (I haven't been to Broadstone yet) has the best gender ratio for a place that isn't just fitness classes for a single guy in Folsom. The locker rooms are clean and there are plenty of amenities, equipment, space, multiple copies of machines so you aren't waiting. If they did 1 or 2 of the following they could earn their 5th star: Missing a scrunch pad (which I found at pf and Lifetime) for ab workout which is preferred over the pulley based crunch machine. For what I pay they need better fitness class offerings as I realized the Body Fit costs you extra. I tried out Zumba as the second guy in the class and it is like what the heck are you dancing to... They really need a HIIT offering to get the 5th star... Or Maybe if they cut the price 25-50% from the $68 a month including the annual maintenance they could have the 5 stars. They are 2-4 times more expensive than the bottom half of Folsom gym prices. Also, they close at 7 on Sat/Sun which is disappointing but not the end of the world as I like to workout later. read more

What a fabulous place ! I've been to my fair share of gyms, and this Cal Fit has awesome customer service. Literally, from the moment we walked in, we were greeted with super friendly smiles, and given coupons for a free 10 minute hydromassage, and a coupon for a fruit smoothie. If you do nothing else join the gym for the hydromassage. This is truly the be-all to end-all chair. Climb into this oversized soft leather chair, and let the good vibrations relax your entire body. It has a variety of settings but I highly recommend the higher ones, because the head to toe massage is simply amazing. The 10 minutes went by so quickly, and I absolutely loved the quiet time. This two-story facility has every type in piece of equipment that anyone could hope for. They even have a rock climbing wall. This definitely is the place to get in shape, work out, and believe it or not, have a good time. There are two outdoor pools, and I will admit to the fact that I love that the kids have their own space. It gives them an opportunity to be just that, kids. #LoveIt If you are motivated enough to go hit the equipment on your own, they offer a variety of exercise classes, from Zumba to yoga. They really strive to make sure that they offer something to everyone. Thank you Alex for this amazing weekend perk. I truly enjoyed having an opportunity to go do something over the weekend that was new and different. You always take such great care of us! They always say, there is a first for everything. And in the 10+ years that I have been part of the Yelp Elite community, I have had the honor and privilege of going to some really fun events. Most of them, however involve food/drink tastings. But this event (which took place on the afternoon of Saturday July 13, 2019) really grabbed my attention. The staff and management at "California Family Fitness" in Folsom invited a handful of Yelpers to use their facility for free from 4-7pm. I'm by no means a 'gym junkie'. But I still try to incorporate my goal of making a trip to my local gym at least 3-4 times a week. With all things considered, your health and body are one of the most important things to take care of. And getting any type of cardio during your usual daily tasks (working, kids, errands, etc.) can be more of a daunting task than you think. Believe it or not, I have never stepped foot into a California Family Fitness. I have had memberships at "24 Hour Fitness" and am currently enrolled at "Crunch" so by going to a new facility was absolutely refreshing. When I arrived, I noticed how this place has set the bar very high with massive square footage, 2-stories, and an outdoor Olympic-sized pool. It has everything a normal gym offers but much, much more. As part of the Yelp perks that I received, we all got a FREE California Family Fitness backpack. We also got a complimentary 20 oz. smoothie; I ended up choosing their "Mango Crusher" as it was refreshing and absolutely delicious. But wait, there's more! The folks at CFF gave us a free 30-day membership to workout at ANY of their locations! Since the Folsom location is about a half-hour drive from my home, I will probably exercise at their Madison/College Oak location (in Foothill Farms) or their Greenback/Illinois location (in Orangevale). As I mentioned, this place offers it all. On the inside, they have a huge rock climbing wall, free weights, an abundance of treadmills, ellipticals, & stationary bikes (on both floors), a Hydromassage (which was soothing and amazing), 2 full-size basketball courts, 3-full size racquetball courts, a sauna, and classes that include Zumba and yoga. Finally, they offer a nice section where you can purchase workout apparel/clothing as well as a ton of supplements at the front of the facility. And as I mentioned, they have a wonderful smoothie bar; perfect for that post-workout sweat and burn. Overall, I would personally like to thank the staff and management at the Folsom "California Family Fitness" to allow us Yelpers to use your amazing facility! Everything far exceeded my expectations as I just might have to change my gym preference. My rating for this unique and special event, a unanimous five stars. read more

What a beautiful gym! I've always liked Cal Fit and this Folsom location is pristine. I used to go to the one on Alhambra because it was close to work but now that I moved to Folsom Im so impressed by the amenities here! There are two floors, a rock climbing wall, racket ball courts, basket ball court, steam room, sauna, and my favorite part, a huge outdoor pool area with a great area for kids to play in. Truly a family friendly place. They have plenty of weight machines and cardio equipment. Some of them have the individual TV screens attached so you can get your heartbeats in while catching up on your favorite show. This gym is really deluxe. There are antibacterial wipes around all equipment to ensure the cleanest environment. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is the start of a fitness journey for people so having staff that's encouraging and nice can be a great benefit. read more

Thanks Alex & the Calfit team for a great afternoon of exercise! My boyfriend and I were greeted by Hannah who offered us our goodies (backpack and complimentary smoothie) and handed out the itinerary then sent us on our way. This Calfit is one of the bigger locations. They had plenty of machines available, all of which seemed to be newer. They also offer rock climbing, tanning beds, several pools and so many more amenities! I appreciated the cleanliness and organization of this location the most. I didn't find one eye sore. I also liked that the machines were grouped together based on workout and hey had several locations for treadmills, elliptical, etc. Upon departure we ran into Graham, the GM, who was friendly and helpful in directing us to our complimentary smoothie. Karla, the operations manger, took our order and walked our tasty smoothies out to us. My boyfriend had the chocolate PB and said it tasted just like a Reese's cup. I opted for the mango smoothie and was very happy with the flavors. They also kept us full for a few hours. Hannah called me the next day to follow up and was really informative in the process of using my free month membership. Calfit Folsom has some great staff members and a beautiful gym! read more

Dirty facility, outdated equipment. Ladies restrooms always has at least one toilet where others did not flush after using it. Not enough variety in classes and in days/times offered. The one class I did enjoy on Monday evenings was always way overcrowded. Would not recommend. It's the only gym in the area so they get business for that reason. So many high schoolers - they don't follow gym etiquette (talking so loud in sauna, boys over 4 yr old in female locker room, no one seems to manage the image and status of this gym). I come in 2 -3 times a day. All times of the day. Maybe they have too many customers and not enough employees so they are overworked and just in a bad mood. Unfortunately it got worse after in shape bought CalFit. Front desk is usually understaffed. Staff doesn't seem to care about customer service. If I could give it a zero, I would. So tired of being brushed off by management. I thought the change to In Shape was good. Nope! Still the same old stuff and staff. Machines broken, people sitting on machines looking at their phones for 15 mins in between sets, young children using the machines inappropriately(they will get hurt), people just slamming the weights down so hard that the entire second floor feels it. It's not Gold's Gym people! We are told it's their "culture" there now and making changes like asking people not to sit on equipment with their phones would "traumatize" the members. New Name, New App Very frustrating experience the other day trying to get a quick workout in at lunch. They wouldn't let me in unless I downloaded the new app. In fact just last week they said I could use a four digit number when I enter the gym. But then Monday, The front desk person said they took that away. Why promote it one week before taking it away? Needless to say I was in a hurry, and did not have time to mess around with an app, username, and password. I do like the convenience of this gym as well as the pool. Regarding the new name, I don't know why they didn't keep California family fitness. In-Shape sounds like a name created by a 12-year-old. CalFit...better sounding and brand recognition. read more

Very frustrated that In-Shape Folsom (formerly CalFit) will be requiring use of an app to come into the club. This will just encourage the broader use of cell phones in the club further clogging up machines where customers sit for extended period playing with their phones as opposed to actually working out. The shorts I typically wear don't have a pocket so I'll end up carrying the phone around and likely loose it or have it stollen... Bad decision - time to start looking for a different club. My family and I have been going to this gym for years. Pre In Shape. It used to be great, the manager was really responsive and you could tell he took pride in running this location. Since the take over this gym has changed drastically. It seems to be run by quite young individuals who aren't taking the same pride. For reference I'm 34 so I'm not being ageist it's quite glaring. currently the entire children's splash pad is still out of operation, the slide has been non-op for years(at this point just remove it so it's not a safety risk), the basketball courts are down as well as the saunas and have been for months. Sporadic machines are broken with a serious lack of urgency in repair. The daycare seems dangerously over capacity at times with infants being left in baby carriers on the toddlers side on the floor. CA has laws for daycares including ratios. The infants should be in the infant area where they are safer away from the 2-4 year olds. I saw another review saying "what do people expect" literally for the gym I pay 100's a month for to be in working condition. There's standing water in the pool area... this place is not being cared for which leads me to think we need to start contacting corporate. read more

I have been a continuing member since signing up before this facility actually opened their doors. The actual gym and machines are the best in the local area (for the price) and while they may be understaffed (who isn't these days), I don't have any issues with the facility nor the employees at this location. The problem and reason for the low rating is their billing department. We had signed up for personal training services (years ago) which was cancelled in December. Our membership and personal training were set up for payment on 2 different cards. In January they charged Personal training to the card set up to pay the membership dues and did this without permission to charge that card. We contacted the manager of the personal trainers and he was able to get that refunded - with a check sent to us about 5 weeks. I think the fact that we disputed the charges with BofA probably helped. We informed them at that time they are no longer allowed to initiate any further electronic payments. Each subsequent month our accounts shows billing for personal training services. There is no way to actually contact In Shape billing department and actually speak with a person. We have opened multiple "service" tickets via their app, left more voice mails than I can count and it is virtual radio silence. Did receive one call back first part of this month from a kind rude women that said she would have to contact the Folsom facility to confirm cancellation and would get back with us. No call back. Coming up on the first of the month and a check of our account still shows charges for personal training service. This is just a friendly warning to think twice before attaching any account information for electronic payment here. Once they see a reoccuring charge you will continue to be charged with no way to actually contact them to get that stopped. read more

CALIFORNIA FAMILY FITNESS FOLSOM is awesome! While Planet Fitness falls down and 24 Hour Fitness goes to chapter 11, CFF wins the 2020 award for going above and beyond to be the best gym in 2020. CFF din't just give up because of Covid19. No! They regrouped and figured out what to do and at their expense to be the apex of gyms in California. All the equipment has been moved outside under a huge tent! Reminds some of us of a Christian tent meeting, but that's not what we are talking about here. It's a gym and at its best! CFF has gone to the top by doing this. There's free weights, cardio, all the machines that were inside and also free Wi-Fi that you don't have to wrestle for passwords.
