OVERPRICED AND BAD ATTITUDE ~~~ Randwick Inch Hair Designs ~~~
NB: I have been to the Bondi store and it was ab fab.
Sorry to the proprietor of the Bondi store, there is no existing page for the Randwick Inch.
I delay my hairdresser visits quite a while as I am a uni student and don't have a casual $400 to drop every 12 weeks. I had a semi over my blonde ends to deal with them until I could afford a hairdresser. Having had great experiences at the Bondi store, I decided I would give Inch another go, but go to a more convenient location for parking. I rang up and got a quote over the phone for some balayage + toner + cut + dry off and it was a steep $250 for the lot, but I bit the bullet and accepted it.
The minute I sat down I got attitude. I was insulted for not knowing precisely what I wanted when I had pretty clearly explained I wanted balayage highlights but not a colourmelt. Simple. But I was berated, and made to feel sh*t when I was about to drop a whole lot of moolah. One thing I can say for hairdressers, is that the majority make you feel positive when you are about to do that.
When I explained the fact that there was blonde lying underneath the semi, the pompous hair dude who was doing the consultation said it was a colour correction and that due to "my hair's history" he would have to recalculate. He came back with a figure of !!!!!$365!!!!! I'm just going to break that down, that is a whopping 18.5 hours work on the average wage. It's not just me being stingey, that is a hell of a lot of money for the average person who is not say, a partner at Freehills. I know that rents are expensive and all hairdressers are generally pretty exxy, but that was simply out of my budget. I said I would have to delay the haircut until next time. My hairdresser called over the receptionist and explained that "we will be doing some balayage, and babylight highlights.... but *WE* won't be doing the haircut, because *WE* can't afford it" with rolling eyes. I wanted to get up then and there, but already had foils in.
As to the colour job... very average. My hair felt dry like straw when i walked out (which was precisely why I clarified that there was bleach lying underneath the brown so as to avoid overprocessing!). The "babylights" around my part were only fine when my hair was all flipped to the side. The second I had a middle part I looked like Cheryl Hayes from Puberty Blues. The one thing I was adamant about was to not have a definitive line when I parted my hair, so to leave a thin 'veil' to lessen the demarcation. The problem I wanted to avoid was precisely the thing I got. I would have been better off going to Stylz at my local mall for a full head of highlights. The balayage highlights were chunky and about an inch from my roots in a thick block line.
Overall, it just goes to show that just because you are paying a lot, doesn't guarantee good work (or service for that matter). read more
