My two children have been attending ICS for about 2 years now. My oldest only attends summer day camp, and he loves it. Summer camp is full off-site field trips to Sky Zone, Cinema City, Adventure City, roller skating, Johnny's Incredible Pizza, etc. ICS also has a vending machine the kids visit, and you can set a daily spending limit. I had such a positive experience, I decided to enroll my 18 month old in their Preschool program. There's always fun activities going on every week: Italian Ice day, Pizza Hut day, water days during the summer, holiday themed parties, the annual Fun Run, etc. As a full-time working mom, ICS makes life so much easier for me... preschool tuition includes breakfast and an afternoon snack, and for just $4 extra a day I can get my little a hot lunch. The school is open from 6:30 am - 6 pm, so you are covered if you need before and after care. ICS uses an app for communication and attendance in addition to constant e-mail updates and reminders. I live in Irvine and I believe sending my children here is worth the commute. I feel ICS is a safe, fun and nurturing environment. read more

My daughter started at ICS in their Preschool program when she was 2.5 years old. The Principal, teachers, and staff have ALWAYS been attentive and super patient. They are caring and loving with all the children and the children learn so much. They care about the success of each child. For example, when I broke my ankle about a year and a half ago, I had a difficult time taking my daughter to her preschool classroom as I had to rely on family and friends to take her because I couldn't walk. There were days I couldn't take her to school and my daughter's preschool teacher took it upon herself to check in on me and made sure to keep me in the loop with the activities of the school to ensure that my daughter was not left behind and still included. There are so many advantages of having my daughter at ICS some that include small class sizes, safe and loving environment, and the fact that it is a smaller school students come first and no one is forgotten or slips through the cracks. My daughter is now in kindergarten and loves her teacher and class. I look forward to another exciting year at ICS and for many years to come! read more

This school is a very bad school. We had both our children in their school and they never took care of the bullying problem. The front desk person is very mean. A few of the teachers are mean too. I approached the teachers and the principal several times regarding the bullying. I also had complained about one of the teachers. read more

I highly recommend this school to parents that want to give their children a well rounded education that provides knowledge and virtue. Independence does not use Common Core. In the Yorba Linda Public schools my children were NOT taught history or science and I started researching schools in December 2019. I researched the school textbooks used by Independence and realized the deficiency in public school education. My daughter has attended the school for 4 months and the knowledge she has gained is impressive. The school is conservative and goes above and beyond to protect your child from immoral behavior and the propaganda that is used today to instill anxiety and fear in our children. The staff at Independence base their beliefs on the word of the Bible and do not deviate from the word of the Bible. During this challenging and tumultuous year their strength in the word of the Bible has created a stable environment for the children. The classes are 15 or less students. The teachers and students become a caring family to each other. There are no cliques or bullying that is always found in public schools. My older child attended public school in YL and I regret not finding this school for him. I have more experience than anyone would like to have in children/teens with drug abuse, immoral, violent behavior, and suicides. The strength and virtue provided by the Bible is something that every child needs to prevent these issues. Parents need to realize that a high dollar education without virtue cannot save your child from the drug addiction or suicide that will take your child from you forever. I was very pleased with the Christian foundation that was taught to our two children. The classroom size is small which means much more attention for each child but that can also make it harder when it comes to friends . My experience was that the Principal and teachers were loving and worked to accommodate our requests . They were very kind to both of our children and worked to help them succeed. We were given financial aid and I felt we were very blessed be able to have our kids attend the school. read more

Our son started here in the 2 year old class in the fall of 2017. We were immediately impressed with the program, the staff and how much he was learning. I loved how they went on a field trip as most schools don't take kids his age on field trips. The staff all knew my son shortly after we started. They are all very supportive and loving. I love hearing his stories of how a teacher helped him or taught him something. Their hot lunch program is such a life saver! It's nice that we can buy him lunch when we don't have time to make one or if they are having something he loves. The staff also works really hard on putting together plays/programs with all of the preschoolers. They are always very adorable and the kids do a great job! This school is the perfect foundation for kids. Five stars for the Academic Programs, The Preschool Program, the Staff, the facility, the "down to earth family culture", the Sports Program, the Music Program, etc. Best part- this is a true bible teaching school. There is actual praying, lifting up of one another, bible memorization, etc. My personal experience: My son is 14 and my daughter is 10. Both kids thrived academically at ICS. My son was a part of the Sports Program and loved it. My daughter has geared towards taking Music Program opportunities. My son attended preschool through 5th grade. He just finished Eighth Grade in public school with High Honors and the President's Award for Academic Excellence. I give 50% credit to ICS for the academic foundation my son received. The Sports Director- Mrs. Compos is five stars all the way. The years that my son had at this school, I will always cherish. ICS still values classic Americana Fieldtrips such as Sacramento, DC, Grand Canyon, etc. From Math Competitions to Speech Meets- my son's childhood at ICS was filled with academic nurturing and bible teaching. His classroom size was always between 14-20 kids. This small pond made me feel safe and seemed healthy for the younger years in my son's life. As a boy, he found himself in plenty hot seats, but we worked through each moment with the Principal, Mr. Cushing, who shares great care for every student. He is amazing. Our daughter will begin fifth grade this year. Her favorite parts of the school are the staff, her friends, the music program (4th Grade Band and Musical Theater!!), the field trips, the art program and the comfort she feels when she is there. My daughter is not really into academics, but the teachers and the programs are really good, so somehow, she always makes Honor Roll. I can't think of a better place for my daughter to grow up. She has a safe, small environment with artistic freedom to develop. Her classroom size has been about 16-22 kids for the most part. As a mom, I want to make sure my kids are in good hands when I am not around. At ICS, I know my daughter is in good hands. Daycare is available until 6PM. The Summer Day Camp is fun, full of field trips and open to the public. The facility is pretty new- bathrooms are nice, air conditioning, beautiful theater, nice library etc. The culture is "family" at this school. Sometimes it takes time to get to know the families, but the school is small enough that you start to recognize faces and get to know each other over time. All in all, I would recommend this school to anyone with children between Preschool- 8th Grade. It's never too late to attend ICS and be a part of the ICS family! read more

I went to ICS from Kindergarten to 8th grade and I am convinced being there played a huge role in shaping me to be the kind of person I am today. From the teachers, I learned what selflessness and compassionate love looks like. From the principal, I learned about the concept of grace and about who God is, on a personal level. I found my voice, the passions of my heart, and the desire to love others the way Jesus did. When I walked back into the school nearly 10 years after I graduated and everyone immediately recognized me and welcomed me with open arms, I knew I was never just a number. That's why I decided to work here and I know that could make this review a little different but if I wouldn't have experienced what this school was like first hand, I don't know if I would've ended up here. These teachers taught me what it's like to truly care for others and look outside of yourself. They taught me what it's like to know how it feels to belong and to do what you can to bring joy and life into the hearts of those around you and not judge anyone for who they are. Most importantly, they pointed me (and my family) to the Lord and I am forever grateful for that. My kids have been at Independence Christian School for almost six years. They started in the preschool program (at the ages of 18 months and three and a half years) and are both now at the elementary school. We love everything about ICS. The teachers are kind and caring and the curriculum is strong. It is a great learning environment and tuition is reasonable. ICS offers on campus before and after school care as well as summer camp, which is super convenient for working parents. There are opportunities for on campus piano, voice and dance lessons. We are looking forward to the sports program too, which starts for us this year (third grade). One of the things I love most about the school is the sense of community amongst the staff, students and families. There is a strong support network. The students are looked after not only by their assigned teacher, but by the entire staff. We discovered ICS almost by accident and we are so glad that we did. I wanted to write a review on the school my son attends because my son really loves his school. He's in 3rd grade now and he use to attend public school for kindergarten. He had a good time at public school. The summer after kindergarten we talked about going to a private Christian school. I am a construction worker I don't make a ton of money and thought it might be too expensive. We decided to do it anyway and it has really paid off. He loves his school and the kids have much better values at this school than a public school. I want my son to grow up to be respectful and live to love the lord. My child is currently a 2nd grade student at ICS. We came from Lakeview Elementry in YL with a class maxed out at 32 students. I had him tested at ICS half way into the school year to see where he stood against a private school curriculum. That is when we found out he was 6 months behind in English and Math. Based off of the public school curriculum he was an above average student. At that point my personal thought was how is he ever going to exceed in his academic goals if he is not pushed by his teacher to get to the next level. The teacher has 31 other students that need her time and attention. The teacher told me "because he holds good grades and he is not a troubled student she doesn't have the extra time to give him." That is when my husband and I decided that we want more for our son in an academic setting. We want him to exceed leaps and bounds beyond what the public school curriculum has to offer. So over the summer Mrs. Hilton provided a Math, English and Phonics book to prepare our son to start his 2nd grade year at ICS without falling behind. He is now in a class of 17 students. The time and attention he is given by ICS teachers and staff has helped him grow immensely in all aspects of his life. He currently holds a 4.0 gpa. His confidence in a safe secured Christian environment has made him feel that ICS is a perfect fit for him. He has met great friends that he looks forward to seeing on a daily basis. Being at a school that is such a tight nit community has made him be accountable for himself in so many ways. We are thrilled to be apart of the ICS family. I would recommend ICS to any family looking for a school that truly wants their child to succeed. A place where your child feels protected, cared for and loved on a daily basis. My son has been attending ICS since he was in preschool @ 2yrs old, he is now a soon to be 5th grader! The teachers, & staff are truly amazing. They are considerate, compassionate, & go above and beyond. To be able to walk into the school and feel at home is a huge blessing. There is no other school I'd have my son attend.
