I had lunch at Aahar recently with my brother and it was great. It was my second time there. My…read morefirst time was almost 10 years ago when they first opened, it was also with my brother, and I remember it being just ok, so I liked it much better on my most recent trip. I had the lunch buffet both times. The cost for the lunch buffet on our most recent visit was $14.95 a person. The restaurant is in a little converted house and the buffet is small, so don't go expecting something huge like Tandoori Flame in Brampton, lol. The main buffet had 10 dishes: vegetable pakora, peas pulao (rice with peas), mixed vegetable curry, chana masala (chickpea curry), matar paneer (paneer cheese and peas), dahl (lentil curry), butter chicken, chili chicken, tandoori chicken and naan. The supplemental buffet had pappadam, raw onions and cucumbers, raita, various sauces and chutneys, watermelon slices, and Gulab Jamun. The food was hot (in temperature), rich and flavourful. However, nothing I had was spicy. The tandoori chicken was really moist, not dry at all, which is the case at some restaurants. The butter chicken was rich and creamy, and I liked the pieces of almonds that were in the sauce. I was pleasantly surprised to see chili chicken on the buffet. It was a bit oily, but still good. The chickpea curry was labeled "black chana" and was in fact black. I actually thought it was black beans when I first saw it. I had never had "black chana" before, but it tasted like regular chana masala to me. The paneer with peas was so good. Really rich and full of flavour. The vegetable pakora were crispy, as were the pappadam (which were broken into smaller pieces). The naan was hot, freshly made, and so good. They brought us a basket and we pretty much ate the whole thing. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any kheer for dessert. The only dessert they had was watermelon and Gulab Jamun, which I'm not a fan of, but my brother is and he liked it. I would have loved some Barfi or Jalebi. Oh well. Service was very nice and attentive. Our waters were refilled automatically without us having to ask. The restaurant is small and cozy. My only complaint is that it was uncomfortably warm in the restaurant (it was a September afternoon). There are a limited number of parking spots at the front of the restaurant, but they are on Churchill, slightly north of Carling, so getting out of the parking lot may be tricky. There is street parking on some side streets nearby (look at the signage because some streets do not allow street parking during the day on weekdays). They have the lunch buffet 7 days a week from 11:30am-2pm. They have a second location on Alta Vista near Industrial, which I have not been to.

I asked if they had any curries as on their website it said "coming soon" and was told they didn't have any. I didn't see too much on the menu of interest, but then the man said they had "fish fry" which was not on the menu. I asked him if they were like fish pakoras and he said yes. I asked him how much it was and I thought I heard $13.99, but I ended up being charged $14.99. The man helping me was friendly and explained some of the dishes to me. I was getting takeout, so I ordered and sat down to wait for it. The wait wasn't too long. When I got home I was disappointed that the fish fry was just 10 small pieces of fish. They were ok, but not particularly crispy. I would describe them as "Captain Highliner with Indian spices." I personally did not feel that they were worth the price I paid. I have had better fish pakoras for less. The Dahi Bhalle Chaat was interesting. I didn't realize that it was a cold dish, so I guess that's on me. I liked the different textures as the lentil balls were soft and mushy, but there were crunchy chip-like things broken up and laid on top. There were also crunchy vermicelli-like things in it too. There were also chickpeas and cubed radish. It was a tiny bit spicy, but also creamy due to the yogurt. It wasn't my cup of tea, but wasn't entirely unpleasant. Maybe I should have just stuck with samosas and stuffed naan, lol, but I wanted to try something new. Although my personal experience was not stellar, perhaps it was just what I ordered and my personal tastes. Maybe you will have a great experience. I went for the Masala Dosa ($12.99) which came with a thick potato masala filling alongside three sauces (coriander, yogurt and tomato) and a sambar (small lentil stew). When I first got the dish, I assumed the sambar was the potato masala and thought it remarkably light and soupy for one. However once I got to the middle of the dosa, I realized that was the sambar and not the filling . Having the filling definitely made it extra hearty, so for next time, I would opt for a plain dosa without any filling since they all come with sauces + sambar. The dosa was thin and crispy and I loved dipping it into the sauces provided. Out of the three, my favourite was the coriander which had an earthy herby feel. The yogurt sauce was a bit on the thinner side for my liking though I liked the cardamom seeds. The tomato one oddly tasted somewhat like a smokey bbq sauce which didn't stand out to me. Overall, being quite close to Tunney's Pasture and having very reasonable portion sizes with good flavours, I would recommend this spot especially as a place that specializes in dosa. As was the spiced potatoes and curry chicken filling. It came with "Chutneys and Sambar." I would describe them as a vegetable soup, a coconut puree and a vegetable lentil puree. The space used to be Balista which I didn't even know it closed. I did a quick Internet search but found they didn't have a website at the time so I went in to check it out. My intention was to ask for a takeout menu but they said they were so new they didn't have one yet, lol. They just opened December 11, 2025, so they had been open only a few days at the time of my visit. The man there gave me the dine-in menu to peruse. I already had dinner plans, but the restaurant smelled good and other customers there seemed to be enjoying their food so I ordered 3 samosas ($1.99 each) to bring home to share with my husband. As I waited, I was checking out the Indian desserts at the counter and the man offered me a sample to try. I didn't know what I was given was called at the time but I later did an Internet search and learned it was called Dhoda Barfi. It tasted like a grainy fudge with sliced almonds in it. I liked it and thought it was a kind gesture to give me a free sample. The samosas were among the best I've ever had! The pastry was flakey but the real star was the filling. It had potatoes, peas, and get this...pieces of cashews in it! I have never had samosas with cashews in them before! The cashews gave the samosas a nutty flavour and the spices were great. If you like samosas, you need to try the samosas at Bathinda Bites! The samosas came with a green spicy chili sauce and a sweet tamarind sauce. Both were excellent. Service was friendly and welcoming. Although Bathinda Bites also sells vegetarian Indian food like Balista that was previously in the same space, I was told it's different owners. So it's a completely new restaurant and not just rebranding. I am looking forward to returning to try their other items like their Momos.
