Rocks, check. Stars, check. So I'm not reviewing nature okay? Double relieved to find clean bathrooms during the government shutdown, although they are taking a risk with dumb kids falling down the hole. The most windy campsite ever means smoke smells and a noisy night. ======== Let's talk about the other campers. Close to stores and restaurants = car campers at their laziest. People driving fast in/out around for beer runs. Not a campground to get away from these people.

We spent one Saturday night mid-July as a couple. The weather was nice after 5 pm up to about 8 am. Campground was full but we were not bothered, there was only one loud group a few campsites from us. Staying next to the boulders was so cool! Stargazing was amazing, saw the milky way. Check the best time to come online based on the moon. We will definitely be back.

First time going to Indian Cove. Went with our Boy Scout troop and we had about 9 individual campsites for the weekend. We taught the scouts how to rock climb and rappel which was awesome. They went bouldering on their own and traveled far and high. Had so much fun that we're planning to go back every year. Each individual site had a table and benches, fire pit and room for at least 1 car and a couple tents. Some of them have room for 2 cars and more tents but most are single cars and a couple tents. There are group sites as well...which my buddy had his friends at...purely by coincidence, but we stayed at the single sites. To book the group sites, you need to be strategic and book as soon as they are open...6 months in advance. The single sites are a bit easier to get but still go pretty quickly. Have to go to www.recreation.gov to reserve campsites. Each site we stayed butted up right next to the rock walls so great opportunities for rock climbing and bouldering. Close by pit toilets which were very clean. Campsites are fairly close to each other so noise especially at night should be monitored. No water spigots in the campsite but there is water available at the entrance close by the ranger station so either bring your own water or containers and fill up before you get to your campsite. Nights were chilly and days were warm but got cold quickly. Beautiful night sky without any light pollution from the population. There are a couple hiking trails that are close by that we're planning on doing the next time around. So go out and have fun!!!

Getting there: Convenient located right outside the East entrance in Twentynine Palms, The drive to Indian Cove campground is pretty easy to locate; just follow hwy 62 to the East, and you'll find this hidden gem waiting for you. Experience: I recently had the most amazing overnight camping experience at Indian Cove during the winter season. My friend and i decided to camp in our car, and it turned out to be a fantastic decision, just a little cold during the night. The campsites were not only spacious but also offered breathtaking views of the surrounding natural beauty. While there is no running water, the outhouses were clean and well-maintained. If you do decide to car camp in the winter, be sure to bring more than enough blankets.

Almost alone on both sides but super beautiful and quiet. Bathroom was nearby and trail. Liquor/market store at entrance and plenty of restaurants in 29palms

This is such a beautiful and well preserved area to visit for day use and camping. My wife and I especially enjoyed the quiet environment that the rock formations create. It's not very often that you can get away from all the noise, but it is so quiet out here. It's amazing. There is also no light pollution out here, so astrophotography and star gazing were extremely fun. There are plenty of trails to travel, and we hardly scratched the surface but felt like we explored so much. We hope to come back again someday!

Group site 6 is great for tent camping but not car camping. The picnic tables and fire pit is about 150 yards away from where you park. Plenty of room to park 1 30ft trailer and 4 trucks/mid size SUV. The picnic and fire pit area is surrounded by rock boulders and magnificent views.

Such a pretty place! I camped here in late March and loved it. The giant rocks and desert flaura and fauna really make this place special. I spent two nights but I could of spent a week! Our group of two had plenty of room in the tent site we reserved. Camp spots are somewhat close together so don't expect privacy. My one complaint would be the pit toilets. They were not cleaned during the 3 days we were around. Toilet paper was strewn all over the floor and the toilet seat, etc was disgusting.

Our first time camping here and we couldn't be happier. You're nestled between hills of rocks that Procter the from wind and provide the most beautiful backdrop. Campsites are still grouped together but we didn't feel too claustrophobic, then again there was only another camper in a van in our camp cluster. Some sites are fairly spacious and can fit a few tents while others are small and can only fit one. Unfortunately the photos on the site are difficult to determine which is which. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table, and grill. The restrooms do not have running water. There are toilet seats but no flushable toilets. However the one we were at was very clean. There are a few short hikes in the area. We tried the nature trail next to the campground and took tons of pictures, read all the signage's you learn if the foliage. We wanted to come to Joshua Tree to see some stars but the moon was very bright during our stay. During the day we saw lots of rock climbers which was rather neat.

Beautiful spot in the park to pitch a tent! Basic campground- firepits, tables, pit toilets, dumpsters. No sinks/showers that I found- BYO food, water, trash bags and firewood. $25 a night for a site large enough for 30+ people. Wake up and start exploring! Rock climbing, hiking, ect. Can't wait to come back!

What a fantastic campground. Camped here during the Christmas week 2019 and had planned on staying for five nights. On Christmas day we checked the weather and saw that there was to be a flash flood warning the next day. So we packed up and headed out. Not fun striking during rain and high wind! Anyway the campground, site 36 is fantastic. Great for tent camping and the pit toilet is close by and clean. The campsite is very secluded so we felt as if we had the park to ourselves. Wonderful rangers and just be sure to bring water containers since the only water is at the ranger station as you enter the park.

It couldn't get more beautiful, or more peaceful in Indian Cove Campground! From the late night Howling of the coyotes Or the early morning sounds of the owls. We had several coyotes visit our campsite during the night time, heard them sniffing around the tent! While walking to the bathroom several Crossed our path. The only downfall was the extreme wind we encountered. Our canopy was ripped to shreds, and scene was like something out of The Wizard of Oz. Had a very informative ranger, and great at her Job. Cannot wait to return and enjoy serenity.

Extremely happy with this off-the-path place. Beautiful & remote. Right up against boulders. Great hikes. Really appreciate Steve the host who was especially accommodating to us.

I texted the owner, and in about 1 minute, Tad came out and guided us to a spot we could camp for the night. It was right next to the other spots but had not fire ring. So what does Tad do? Goes and brings us a portable fire pit! Awesome service! Anyways, the place is really just a part of the owners property right by there house. But it is nice, for a few nights of camping when you can't get a spot in the park. I would totally stay here again. They'll even cook you breakfast if you order it the night before. It is an extra charge though, I think $12. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the bathroom situation. It was just a bucket behind a wall, no door even! But Tad told us they were getting a port-a-potty very soon. I definitely recommend Dirtbag Campground!

Get there on a Thursday if you can swing it. If you can't, get there at the crack of dawn on Friday. Campsites will probably be full, but if you have faith and perfect timing, you'll whine/pout in the car for awhile until you snag one as someone else is leaving. This ended up being the case around 6:30 am, when we tested our luck at Ryan Campground after Jumbo Rocks was full. Ryan Campground has 31 campsites. If a post has an orange envelope clipped to it, the site's taken. Otherwise, it's yours. Sites are fairly spacious and surround a cluster of boulders. We snagged #16 for $15/night. If it's a weekend, it's a guarantee people will be circling the grounds each day in search of a site and asking if you plan to leave. They will also approach you at night and ask for advice on a place to camp. If you're feeling altruistic, keep in mind it's 2 vehicles per site. Make sure to consult the weather forecast beforehand--what we thought would be a little breeze ended up being 30 MPH gusts of hell. We took the ominous warning from the state park ranger lightly, who devilishly giggled after saying "no, you won't blow away." We didn't, but our tent collapsed, as did 80% of the tents surrounding us. Amidst our elemental battle, a couple pulled up to ask if we were leaving. We weren't, but invited them to share our site with us. The 4 of us combined couldn't keep our tent upright against the wind. An hour later, a torrential downpour forced us to throw everything into the car and sleep in a hotel. We returned the next morning when the wind died down. The weather didn't deter anyone, the sites were still full. Our tent dried out during the day and we were able to have a great experience. Highly advise a night hike to Ryan Ranch, but bear in mind you may encounter desert stragglers who've ingested hallucinogenics. It's entertaining. No matter your experience of Ryan Campground, you're sure to come away from it with a good story.

It felt like we had a lot of space to ourselves. The site is pretty exposed so the sun was burnin'! There seemed to be a lot of sites on the other side of the campground that were next to big boulder rocks so there are sites with more shade. The bathrooms were pretty clean, no showers. The fire risk was high due to the high winds so we were barred from using the fire pit and bbq grill that weekend. The Joshua trees are mesmerizing and are everywhere! There are a couple more campgrounds in Joshua tree that we would like to check out but wouldn't hesitate to stay at Ryan campground again!

I had picked an RV site but it was scratched out and replaced with another site number. it was two sites away so I didn't mention it. My site was next to a permanent resident fifth wheel in horrible condition. Little did I know it was one of the better permanent RVs there. When you see all the "rules" for campers there you assume this is a nice place. I think they even wanted to know the year of our RV, like they have standards. HA! Went on a walk around and there were junky RVs everywhere that are old, broken RVs surrounded by hoards and hanging laundry (NOT allowed! LOL) Seeing all the permanent septic hoses on the ground and with the "p trap" dip showing they are open 24-7 was awful. Speaking of laundry, after a week in Mexico we had two loads to run. Our friends had one. Luckily there were three working - because only about 30% of the washing machines/dryers were actually functioning. They only had coin operated washers and no change machine. The pool area was older but clean and nice. The pool was cold! There is a separate, covered area with four hot pools of various temperatures. These were well used and I should point out there can be children present - just pointing this out as it can be less then relaxing to have a child playing with dolls in the spa with you. Unfortunately the sauna was not working when I was there. It had some very pretty grounds around the pool for games and barbecue. Nice pond with turtles, too. When we went to leave, we tried to hook up to empty the grey and black tanks. Our septic hook up was modified for a smaller hose size and there was no way for us to be able to use it. Very frustrating and we didn't want find an alternate there since it was quite early in the morning. The guy banging on metal and running equipment behind us hadn't even showed up to make noise yet that morning. After we left we reached out to the management via email and it has been over a week with NO response. We had asked for a partial refund due to the issues mentioned. With no reply, I feel compelled to warn others, since you will have no recourse once they get your money apparently. While we enjoyed the pool for a couple hours and felt like I was pretty safe there, the amenities and services were otherwise lacking and not worth, in my opinion, what we paid. It felt very, "bait and switch." The location was ok for decompressing from our Mexico trip, but next time we will go back the way we came (a hidden gem by Salton Sea)
