This place has been a balm for my soul, having escaped the sadness, smoke and uncertainty from the LA fires. My AQI was north of 390 (not good) so I couldn't get out fast enough. The Inn is super welcoming. Lydia at the front desk was kind and responsive to my changing needs (i kept adding days.) Nearly every person staying here that I met were displaced Angelenos. Morning breakfast (great selection) was a place to connect and grieve. At night, dinner in the restaurant was an escape from the news. I like sitting at the bar. I met a slew of locals who were super kind and welcoming. Cowboy. TJ. Vickie. And a host of others... They made me feel like a regular immediately. Carrie (Kari?) the bartender was top notch - attentive, talkative and enthusiastic. I met her fab parents and even shared goodbye hugs. (That's a good human!) Ashley (the manager) was equally wonderful on Sunday night. I was entertained by visiting artists each night too. Bowdie welcomed me regularly. I stayed in the Bottle Room (my fave) for three nights and Goldenbush for 2. Goldenbush is quieter and more light but the Bottle room has a tub! Much needed after a stressful getaway from LA. Plus, I left my laptop and the cleaning crew - two warm women- made sure I was notified immediately. This is my 4th stay at the Inn. The proximity to the park is perfect. I can't express enough how much this place means to me. Thanks 29 Palms. You are funky, and clean, and beautiful, and dry (my God is it dry here) and filled with nice personal touches (lunch options are deeply appreciated.) May you live long and prosper. What an amazing place! Wonderful historic atmosphere with a lovely oasis. There was an egret hunting there at sunrise. Food was fabulous. Room was simple and clean. It was an original cabin that probably dated back 75-100 years so you got a real taste of the history. The beds were very comfortable and being winter there was no shortage of quilts and blankets. Room temperature was fine. We just like to keep our room cold so the quilts made it extra comfy. We appreciated the walk in shower. Note: there is no refrigerator or microwave but we were prepared for that so it wasn't an inconvenience. Really did not need it since the restaurant food was good. Didn't try the pool. Very close to the Joshua Tree National Park North entrance. Very pet friendly andthere lots of room for them to roam! Can't recommend this place enough! Will be be back!! read more

Charming little place with lots of character. We stayed here while visiting Joshua Tree and has a good experience. We stayed in a suit with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Unfortunately, the bathroom was only accessible through one of the bedrooms which meant everyone had to walk through our bedroom no matter what time of day or night to use it. Breakfast was included. The selection was definitely limited but the coffee was good. read more

My husband and I have stayed here three times and every time it is one of our favorite escapes. If you're a fan of quiet unique places off the beaten path with friendly and kind staff, this is the place for you! Each time we stay, we pick a different room/adobe - we hope to check off most of them one day! Make sure you factor the restaurant into your stay (it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays I believe) as the food is delicious. We always make sure to get the sautéed mushrooms and our server recommended the carrot cake for dessert, which was soo good. Also, maybe this is a weird thing to comment on, but the soap they have in the bathrooms? Smells amazing. I've definitely bought a little trio of soaps from their gift shop before. The location is right next to the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, too! All in all, a great spot. I hope other people give it a shot a love it as much as we do! read more

What a gem hidden in this inn near Joshua Tree National Park. Gourmet finds in a casual atmosphere. The space is tiny with about 12 tables indoors and outdoors. Service was top notch. I had the steak and shrimp which included an 8 oz. ribeye and 5 large shrimp with a delicious chimichurri sauce. The steak was perfectly grilled. Came with a side of red mashed pots with the skins still on. So good. My husband tried the vegan option of carrot osso bucco which was braised carrots, onions and mushrooms in a red wine sauce over rice. It was a beautiful dish, but slightly bland. Needed a little spice or citrus zest to give it a kick. Lovely option worth the stop. But check to make sure it is open as only hotel guests can dine in the Winter. read more

I worked at the Inn in 1992 for a couple of years as a housekeeper. Great place to work. Jane and Heidi were pretty much running the show then. They were a pleasure to work for. They blessed us with free lunch at the time, which was a big blessing for me. Met so many famous people there, but Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin topped it all. Big fan and even bigger now as he was so down to earth and very kind. The atmosphere takes me back to a hippie error. It's just a relaxing mellow place. I totally recommend staying there.....and the food is excellent and the veggies are grown fresh and organic in their beautiful garden. read more

I was here for a wedding in late September with my boyfriend and his family. My review is solely on my experience here which did not include booking or paying, and sadly we only got to spend one night here, but oh my gosh I loved this place!! My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the rooms with the patio by the water. It's connected (by the bathroom) to another room, which is a really nice setup for a family, friends or couples. It was very comfortable and clean but outside is the real seller, imo. Maybe it's not impressive to someone who lives around the desert or has more experience in it, but I was absolutely enthralled by it. I loved looking at all the different trees and cacti and critters they have out and about. I actually had scorpions up where I lived in Oregon but it was still a treat to get to see one a little bit bigger in the desert! (pics are from us capturing & relocating him as safely as possible because we didn't want him to get smushed by anyone as he was wandering around the reception). This was a beautiful place to hold an outdoor wedding and I'm so happy I was able to experience it! I already want to come back here someday and to spend more than one night. read more

Loved the unique setting and welcoming staff. Our old bungalow was charming. We enjoyed exploring the farm and watching turtles swim in the palm-lined pond. Their on-site restaurant had live music and a varied dinner menu. Chicken picatta, fried green beans and carrot cake were great. Located close to a park entrance, offering a complimentary (light) breakfast, pottery/yoga activities, heated pool and the secluded, serene grounds made it a very special place to stay. read more

My hubs and I have gone here on two occasions now, both including guests we were hosting. I had the prime rib both times because--it's bomb! My MIL and my female friend also had the PR and LOVED IT. It's HUGE.... so have eggs at home for the next morning to make up a mean scramble. For 4 entrees, no alcohol/dessert, with tip.... just under $150. I LOVE supporting local business and you should too! They source vegetables from their own on-property garden. The employees are top-notch. Parking can be slightly daunting and waits can be long, BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT. (One time we didn't want to wait and went to Desert in the Kitchen--big mistake. Should have waited!) read more

A fabulous bar and restaurant food great : you can also order sandwiches to take with you for hiking : food great they often have local musician come play while you eat !! We just got back from the wonderful Twentynine Palms Inn, and we had a great time. Family owned Inn for @ 100 years. Great food, breakfast included. Comfy secluded adobe cottage with a fireplace. Dogs allowed. Friendly staff. Yoga, pool, nature walks, veggies from the garden in great restaurant. The cottage was a bit chilly when we arrived, but once the space heater, & fire, were going, it was warm. Great live music in the restaurant. Gourmet meals. Great baked goods. I would have taken a dip in the pool, but it's not heated in winter. No internet, but that might have been a blessing, good to unplug. Bring your own alarm clock if you need one. What a dream. I write this on my way home from our stay with a full heart and a full belly. My husband and I have been annual campers for 10 years. This year with Covid-19 among us I had spent a couple weeks calling around and asking about precautions the Inn's were taking in the area and finally reached out to 29 Palms Inn. I will start by saying about 3 years ago we popped into the restaurant and had the most magical dinner with a Jazz duo playing while we sipped lovely wine and ate the most delicious farm to table meals. I knew then that this place was special. When reaching out to the front desk via telephone I was spoken to with such honesty and reassurance. It's wonderful when you can feel transparency over the phone. After booking I received an email on my "contactless" check-in and check-out which ended up super easy and convenient. This property is looked after with so much heart and soul. One could even say it feels very sacred. Charming pathways leading to ponds and grassy knolls, vintage autos, unique artwork, detailed craftsmanship around every corner, a natural sanctuary for many wildlife critters not to mention a garden that provides their restaurant with food that you feel honored to eat. I came away from this stay with such respect and gratitude for the way the staff has handled our current events. Every meal served, every refilled pitcher of water or cocktail, every individually wrapped continental breakfast and individual Stanley thermos of coffee felt like it was served with such kindness and care. What I would like to mention is that although there are spots with wi-fi on the property, this is a place that encourages unplugging! Which I am personally a huge fan of. I get a little tired of the Instagram culture overpopulating these wonderful spaces. So if you are a child of mother nature who can see beauty in unplugging and respecting this oasis for its raw beauty you will have no problems. Buy a deck of cards, start some conversation, listen to the owls, journal or draw on your patio. I promise you won't be disappointed. In a world where things are uncertain and changing rapidly day to day; This was the perfect escape. We are feeling restored after our visit and hope to return very soon. I guess this love letter really is a "Thank You!" To everyone who puts their heart and soul into creating such a special environment. Pretty solid Inn. A few hiccups (e.g. manners of some visiting patrons, amenities, and cost); but the experience overall was enjoyable (e.g. proximity to the National Park, the staff, fresh and delicious food, the Inn's decor, cleanliness, and charm). The rest of the review elaborates in detail if you have time. The bed is by-far the most comfortable I've slept in, outside of home. Definitely worth mentioning first. The location is also great. Less than 5 mins to access Joshua Tree National Park; it's also near markets, cafes and other small stores (even liquor store). Genuinely friendly, down to Earth people work successfully to maintain the Inn. My girlfriend and I kept tipping at like 25% because we had such a good time during meals. The live, acoustic music inside the bar can be a little annoying, but if that's you're thing, it's here. We just sat outside and it was great. That is until some asshole-couple eating (directly) next to our table (both) lit up cigarettes in the middle of our meal. Rude-as-shit... Not the restaurant's fault per se, (but it kinda is). When we politely asked the server what's up, she said they allow people eating outside to smoke at the table. I don't know why... inconvenience everybody else eating outside because a smoker wants to smoke at their table? Great strategy: hold everybody around hostage because a couple rude asses feel the need for a cigarette. I quit smoking only 3 or 4 years ago; I know it is very possible to smoke away from others... it was a rude and dated move on the smokers' part. They weren't even guest. Which is fine--but a lot of people eating were; a lot of people complained, so it seemed really weird it was happening because it's so easily avoidable. That aside, great food, ambiance, and engagement. The Inn maintains a large in-house garden of veggies and herbs which contribute to the kitchen's ingredients (how awesome and unique is THAT?!). Some items on the menu are expensive, but it's often something like: premium steak, scallops or fresh fish. However, the entrees do come sized generously and explode with flavor and sides. Plus there are delicious alternatives that press lighter to the wallet. The salads are tasty but would benefit in size, and with an option to add a non-meat protein like an egg or tofu for (there are plenty of delicious meats to add, the steak is great!!). They also bring you a loaf of bread and butter that tasted amazing. Pretty sure it's baked in-house. It seems obvious the chefs are talented and put a lot of though and care into the meals. Lunch menu is S-O-L-I-D. Priced well, lots of options. KILLER sandwiches, loaded with veggies and tasty meat. I really don't like soup, but I tried the beef and barely at the server's recommendation and genuinely enjoyed every-bite! (I got a second bowl when returning for dinner). It seems beer choices are normally abundant. However they only had one lonely beer on draft when I was visiting. Laquita (session )IPA. It wasn't bad, but it was a boring session--low in alcohol (like 4.5%) and light in taste... oh well. Also have a full bar with generous cocktails. Overall, 4-stars (excluding the damn smoking). The Inn also offers a delicious complementary breakfast, loaded with generous basics (boiled eggs, oats and barley, baked bread, coffee/tea/juice). I believe it starts at 7am. Lastly the price of the room. $129 a night +tax. A little high, but (almost) worth it. Some rooms don't have refrigerators. They did offer a tiny beach cooler with ice (lol), but come on... The rooms also don't come equipped with a coffee pot or kettle (to heat up water), and most places don't open up until about 6 or 7AM. We were early-morning hikers headed for the National Park--it was a pain in the ass to find a place open that early for coffee. Sounds trivial, but at 4 or 5AM, coffee before a hike is genuinely a must. The room was immaculate. 5-stars for sure. The air-conditioning seemed a little rough, but kept the room cool enough. All in all, I would stay here again. I like that it resembles earlier years in the 20th century. I like that it's a little old, a little rundown (but exceptionally clean), and charmingly distant from modern. The kind and amazing staff also make up for aaaa lllllot. They are genuinely amazing people--it's easily the Inn's greatest strength. I thought three stars was appropriate because we paid so much money... Between the dinner-smoking BS, the absence of a refrigerator and hot water (for coffee)--it really knocked-off some heavy points (for me). Shoot me a message the review is too rough, I think it's appropriate but I'm certainly not on a pedestal. I would absolutely recommend the Inn to others, but I would offer my discrepancies first. This place is a hidden gem right outside Joshua Tree National Park. With an antique charm and comfortable accommodations, it was our little oasis for a couple days while visiting. Inasmuch that I didn't want to go out to the desert in 115 degree weather to view the recent meteor showers, it was a worthwhile trip. The Inn is a funky little place with a number of unique little bungalows to fit your needs. Four of us were in The Guest House and it was quite large and spacious. The backyard was a big draw with a gorgeous tree canopy over a large table and chairs and chaise lounges. There were 2 queen size beds and 2 twin beds and oddly enough, only one bathroom, but the space was fine for us. Full kitchen if you want to cook with all the amenities one needs being away from home. It was clean, the service from the front desk was pleasant and we enjoyed good food and service from the restaurant. Only thing we disliked was the 9:00 pm cut off time for the pool. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay while in the Joshua Tree area, this is recommended. read more

After a series of miscommunication/misinformation, we settled on the West End cottage. It lacked the 3 proper beds that we were told, and instead had two queens, a fold away bed, and a pull out couch bed (the latter two beds both felt like sleeping on a rib cage, so I ended up just sleeping on the couch). What's more, we were not told that the West End lacked wifi connection, and when I called the office to ask about it, the host was abrupt and unapologetic. For $200+/night I had expected better. We ate at the 29 Palms Restaurant on our first night. The food was over priced, came out barely above room temperature and was extremely bland. What's more, our waiter (a young man) was unfriendly and slow to help us, though, to his credit, he did try to remedy the disappointing food somewhat. In addition, the breakfast provided for guests was plain and extremely limited. Overall, our stay was disappointing. I hope that this was simply an off week for the 29 Pines Inn, but either way, we will not be returning. read more

Then we arrived at the 29 Palms inn, There was a very nice lady that helped us check into our room. The room was very nice and quiet. And the restaurant was excellent. This was a wonderful stopping point between Phoenix and Los Angeles to break up a long drive and stay in a beautiful relaxing place. Their restaurant is wonderful, with vegan options that one might not expect in the desert! Their carrot oso bucco is divine, but so are the sesame falafels. The only drawback is that there are not some of the usual amenities like wi-fi in our possibly more remote room or a little fridge, but it actually adds to the rustic flavor. There is wi-fi on the main grounds so you can peruse your emails after you dine, and they provide a cooler they will fill with ice to keep a few room things cold. Beautiful artsy community with a restful feel well deserving of their Oasis status. Very close to Joshua tree so you can use this as a starting point to go visit the park. read more

We had a wonderful two-night stay here. We chose the 29 Palms Inn on the basis of a friend's recommendation of a "dark sky" inn because I love stars and you don't see very many in Oakland, CA. However, we forgot to check the phases of the moon and it was just about full moon when we were there! Oh well, I love the moon too. We stayed in Forget-Me-Not which is very conveniently located to the breakfast area and the pool, but not so close as to get noise. The front patio is warm even when the breakfast area is windy and a bit cold (despite the heat lamps). The complimentary breakfast is excellent: good oatmeal, hardboiled eggs, muffins or homemade bread, plain Greek yogurt (yay!), granola, and excellent oranges and apples. Good coffee too. My only suggestions would be nuts and maybe blueberries for the oatmeal or at least raisins and the option of decaf coffee. The pool is delightful and midweek, at least, in mid-March, virtually empty. The towels at the pool are a bit thin and small; why not have the same ones that are in the cottages? The cottage was plain but well-appointed and very comfortable. The staff was outstanding. The bar closes at 7 pm, but Ashley served us tequila shots to take back to our patio for after-dinner drinks, looking at, well, the moon. Excellent tequila. We had dinner at the restaurant one night (it was closed our first night) and it was very good, with great vegetarian options and a good wine list. We were seated inside, but that was fine because there weren't many people and the tables were nicely spaced. Our server was excellent. We will definitely come back the next time we come to Joshua Tree National Park, which is amazing. read more

Got married here last month, and highly recommend this location as a wedding venue for small to medium-sized weddings! I've stayed at the Inn a few times now, and each time my accommodations have been charming. I love the feel and aesthetic of this place. I also spent the last year planning my wedding at this location. The staff could not have been nicer, or more helpful, every step of the way. Erica and Liz were always patient, thoughtful, and prompt regarding my many questions along the way and honestly I really had no anxiety leading up to the wedding, because I knew I was in good hands. Ceremony site, reception venue, catering, linens, bar service, etc were all provided in a single package. There were a variety of package combinations available, and overall cost was incredibly reasonable and very competitive. Erica did a great job of breaking down options, and Liz was extremely helpful in keeping track of my wedding guests as they began to book rooms on and off site. Onsite staff are really lovely. This place is still family owned and has a 'family owned' feel to it. Shout out especially to Mika, who was a huge help in big and small ways. If you're considering a wedding in the high desert, I endorse them wholeheartedly! It's full of charm and unique character, but with all the physical convenience of a more traditional hotel wedding. My 87 year old grandmother had a room right by the ceremony site and was able to get around very easily. At the same time though, this was NOT a hotel ballroom setup, and the beauty of the local desert shone through. read more

Labeled a desert oasis, this place is serene and peaceful with gorgeous views of the desert. I stayed here for a friend's wedding and it was the perfect location for them. We stayed at the Guest House which was large and comfortable. It had a great backyard space with really cool artwork. With a kitchen and living area, it was perfect place to entertain our friends. The venue itself was also where the reception was. It was a great time! The staff is friendly and great to deal with. I had made a reservation on the phone and never received an email receipt after. This is only for the restaurant, not the hotel. I guess I see what they're trying to do here- offer a more upscale dining experience in Twentynine Palms. But to me, it fell flat. The food itself, was certainly passable enough, but for the prices they're charging? No way. If they knocked about $7.00 off of everything, then yeah. Okay. We waited for a table for 30 minutes and once seated, were asked to move. That was annoying since they stuck us about 18 inches from the live entertainment. They need to knock out a wall and expand their dining area- they've got the room and the demand, evidently. Also- and this irritated me- while waiting to be seated, along with other groups, we noticed a couple long since finished with their dinner playing a game of dominoes at one of the tables. They were still playing when we left. They needed every table they had, and here's these two jag-offs playing dominoes? Dude- boot the domino players when your restaurant is that slammed. read more

Pluses: - The bar. If I was rating this place solely on the bar, I'd give it five stars. The bartender is super friendly and makes the best cocktails in town. - The garden. During the summer, it's so nice to spend the evening walking through the garden and picking some fruit to nosh on as you meander. During the winter, it's all rather brown, but c'mon, it's winter. - The dogs. The inn dogs are incredibly sweet and adore anyone that's willing to pet them. Just be aware that they can be rather dusty. Neutrals: - The restaurant. It's very hit or miss. They have a good clam chowder and potato soup. The deserts can be really excellent or really bad. I'd recommend ordering something from the regular menu if you want to be fairly sure you'll like your food. The specials are what really tend to be hit or miss - it's almost the like the chef is experimenting with a new recipe, so you never know if it's going to be good or not. As for the salads... they're great during the summer when they use ingredients from their garden, but they're not-so-great during the rest of the year when they use not-so-fresh ingredients. The blue cheese dressing and the house vinaigrette are delicious, though. - The hotel. Some of the cabins are nice, some not-so-nice. The X,Y, and Z cabins are nice and great for if you need interconnected rooms. Gold Strike was rather luxurious for the grounds. Irene's and the Guesthouse are very nice, too, but if your neighbors are a noisy lot, you won't enjoy a good night's sleep. The Old Dale house is nice, but not really on the grounds, so not the place to stay if you want to be near the restaurant and pool. Fault Line and Tidy Tips... For all they're supposed to be for multiple people, whoever ends up sleeping in the smaller bed will not enjoy the stay. It's nice that Fault Line is right by the main area, but Tidy Tips is far from the main area. Take a flashlight for the walk back to your room after dinner - it's very dark. The rooms are all rustic. It can be charming in it's own way, but can also grate on the nerves. You may have to jiggle the door handles "just right." You may have to wait for hot water. If you like to stay in high-end, full-service hotels, this is not the place for you. While most of my co-workers adore the place, one co-worker indicated her frustration on the second day with the comment, "I am so over the whole 'rustic is cute' thing. If I want rustic, I'll camp." It's really going to depend on your personality. The negatives: - The bugs. Okay, so yes, it's rustic, but I prefer staying places where I don't have to worry about ants in my hotel room. Ants outside? Okay. Ants inside? Not okay. Other people have reported seeing other bugs in their rooms, but I've only have had to deal with ants. And it's definitely a problem. If you tell the front desk about the ants, they'll hand you a can of bugspray. - The mosquitoes. Because the hotel has it's own oasis, during the summer the mosquitoes are out like crazy. You'll want insect repellent if you plan on spending time outside. I did enjoy watching the bats swoop around eating bugs, but that might have been because I was trying not to scratch the bites on my legs. So, if work hadn't paid for my stay, I probably wouldn't have stayed here. For the cost of the rooms, I'd rather stay in a chain hotel. Twentynine Palms Inn is too unreliable for me to stay here on my own. read more

Back when we still lived in LA we stayed at the 29 Palms Inn on two separate occasions about two years apart. While we have very fond memories of staying there, that was more than five years ago; hence my review will focus mainly on the restaurant and grounds. I will say this about the accommodations: While not modern or luxurious, they are utterly charming. We stayed in a historic adobe bungalow with a fireplace and a walled private patio. As a big fan of Southwestern architecture and interior design, staying at the 29 Palms Inn was a real treat. The bungalow interiors are rustic (in the good sense of the word) and the furnishings are best described as Southwestern Eclectic. Also, everything was impeccably clean, which is very important to me when staying at a hotel. The restaurant at the 29 Palms Inn is top-notch. I'd say it compares quite well with the best food I've had in LA. We especially love going for Sunday brunch (their fresh-baked breads and muffins are to die for) and poolside dinners (when the weather warms up). Speaking of which, on warm evenings, this is a great place for a couple's night out. Live music, poolside seating and excellent food -- perfect! We're rarely in 29 Palms during lunch hours so I've had lunch at the 29 Palms Inn just once, which is too bad because I actually prefer their lunch menu. I had the Chicken Tacos and they were probably the best chicken tacos I've ever had -- and that's coming from someone who eats at a lot of Mexican restaurants. The dinner menu is more upscale (no sandwiches, burgers or tacos) and priced accordingly. It's also pretty meat-heavy. If you want a great steak though, this is the place and dinner is the time! I'm also a fan of the Shrimp Scampi and the Spinach Salad. They have a nice though limited selection of wines and they make some delish cocktails also. The 29 Palms Inn has its own organic farm that you can visit and that produces many of the veggies and fruits they serve. It doesn't get any fresher than that and boy, does it make a difference! My husband normally isn't a big veggie eater but he loves the veggies at the 29 Palms Inn. Of course they're expertly prepared also. Whether you're staying at the Inn or just eating at the restaurant, you'll definitely want to explore the grounds, especially the Oasis of Mara with the pond, huge palm trees and wildlife. It's an amazingly peaceful and relaxing place you've got to experience! read more

This is a really fun, funky hotel, but I'm going to confine my comments to the breakfast spread, which is excellent and served in their in-house restaurant. Starting at 7:30, here's what you'll find: Fresh-squeezed orange juice: remembering how much I routinely pay for this luxury on the East Coast, I drank quite a few glasses! It has a not-too-sweet, earthy flavor that I love. Coffee: organic and fair-trade. Dark and delicious. Also teas and hot chocolate mix. Eggs: hard-boiled from the chickens a few hundred feet away. Porridge: a healthy mix of whole grains, served with cream, butter, brown sugar and fresh champagne grapes. These grapes were so amazing that the cereal needed no other sweetener. They were as sweet as raisins, but still juicy! Amazing. Breads: homemade. Light, tangy sourdough and dense, spiced banana bread. Toasting optional. Served with butter and homemade berry jam and citrus marmalade. Did I say YUM! already? This was seriously the best breakfast I've had in awhile, and that includes a week in France! The homey touches and healthy options made it for me. read more

This is for the restaurant only. I have not stayed at the hotel. Given the paucity of good restaurants here, I wanted to share this one. I've had dinner here which was absolutely superb. I was with my husband and friends, and being, well, terribly curious, I got to taste everyones' dishes. My friend's pork chop was moist, well seasoned, and tender. My husband's fish was most and delicious. I had the appetizer steamed mussels and clams with the wonderful house made sourdough bread and was ecstatic. The atmosphere was pretty casual but one could dress and still fit in. A few weeks later we went back for a sunday brunch. They had a free gumbo which had a striking tomato base and was really lovely. I had eggs benedict and my husband had an omelette. Both meals were outstanding. Dining was available both inside the restaurant and by the pool. Service was quick and attentive. Decor was fun - really creative and interesting, with local artists on the walls and of course for sale. And I am happy to report everything was clean. This is not cheap food but if you are wanting to treat yourself, it's very good and I think it is a good value. read more

This place is beautiful and has a true desert charm. I stayed here with my boyfriend and small pet (love that they allow this!) when a friend got married here. The checkin and grounds/housekeeping staff was friendly, and the breakfast was delicious! Not knowing quite what to expect of the accommodations, we arrived the day before the wedding and checked out the area. The unit we stayed in was lacking some modern conveniences, such as hot/cold water coming out of one faucet, enough space/light to shave in the shower, and an electrical outlet in the bathroom (or at least near a mirror?) I would still think the above description would earn 4 stars, but there was a little bit of an incident. While we were walking down to the wedding reception, a couple of staff came barreling towards us in a golf cart, calling out, "excuse us," but not slowing down. We backed out of the way...and right into a cactus! They did not apologize, even when they saw my boyfriend trying to pick the spikes out of my back. We asked them if they had any suggestions, and they referred us to the bartender inside (still didn't apologize.) The bar staff was at least compassionate, but their idea didn't help. We spent the next 45 minutes tweezing out the spikes back in our room and changing clothes. We missed the beginning of the reception and never did get an apology or follow-up, offer to clean my dress, etc. We had a fun time at the wedding and found the area beautiful, but I'm not sure if we'll return to this hotel when we return to Joshua Tree. read more

We went for lunch today for the first time. There's a wide variety of different sandwiches for lunch, including vegetarian options, hamburgers, chicken, pulled pork . . . There was a ton to choose from. We ordered the Grunt Burger and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. The chicken sandwich was nicely breaded and had the perfect amount of heat to it. The burger was great though the bun did get soggy from the burger juices. The fries were nicely salted and crisp. The restaurant is right next to the pool and if you wanted you could eat outside next to the pool. You don't need to be a guest at the hotel to eat at the restaurant, though this lunch trip did make me want to go on a staycation and rent one of the adobes or cabins for the night. We walked around the property a little bit and it is gorgeous - with a lagoon with fish, turtles, and birds in it. It's like an oasis in the middle of all this heat. read more

I've stayed here once in one of the theme rooms and have enjoyed dinners here several times over the past decade. The most recent stay was particularly enjoyable as it was a reunion of sorts. The hotel is located in the middle of the desert just outside the 29 Palms entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park. The establishment has a history of artists and features a sustainable menu that includes vegetables straight from their garden to your table. The digs are pretty amazing. The water works are original and the place has a timeless feel. Highly recommend avoiding the summers as it is best enjoyed when the heat is not at its fullest. They do have a pool outside of the restaurant, which is a decent way to spend a day relaxing. The restaurant that accompanies the hotel is a gem of the desert. I know that it's worth making trip in its own right. I've enjoyed several of the meat dishes here and think the vegetables are amazing. They offer a full service bar that hosts a cast of desert creatures that makes for outstanding people watching and we always make new friends when we head out that way. Truly a place to experience - will return at first opportunity. read more

This place is surprisingly great. Being from the big city, we were a little worried as we were driving around the industrial back streets of 29 Palms looking for the entrance. Once inside though, there was a nice little pool and a decent restaurant with a pretty good wine selection and whiskey bar. I was not expecting to like the food all that much and it was killer. We had braised pork chops done just perfectly and mushroom ravioli with sun-dried tomato sauce the first night we were there. It came with fresh sourdough bread. The service was super nice. The rooms are rustic but everything works properly and the water is very clean and delicious being from a private well in the desert. Our room has an old-style refrigerator outside on the patio and a hammock. My son and I shared the one and a half bedroom and the clean bathroom. Looking forward to dinner and another IPA on tap this evening. My only suggestion would be to heat the pool its not usable in April tho the weather was warm enough. There is a cute working farm on the premises and I'm pretty sure that's the yummy salad I ate last night. Also there is a family of rabbits living under our cabin which led to cute encounters with baby bunnies The rooms are offset from each other which is good as my son of 11 has no internal volume control that I can find. read more
