A few sips of beer later and my daily worries began to melt away. The service was fast, friendly and efficient so I didn't have to wait long for my main dish to arrive. The menu had a chili pepper symbol next to my dish indicating "spicy" and I yearned for a good, spicy portion of Tikka Masala... instead, what arrived was a meager portion of the sweetest, "no spice added" excuse for this classic chicken dish. The naan here is served quartered, also odd for an Indian restaurant making me wonder if they make their own naan in house or simply reheat pre-made breads. The UK has some great Indian restaurants, but unfortunately this establishment isn't one of them. I hoped to float in an "Indian Ocean" of culinary bliss but instead was left disappointed.

The owner was called immediately to have a look and he took my plate away to the kitchen. He returned a few minutes later, and tried to persuade us that it had been a seed. I have had much experience cooking with this vegetable: its seeds are small, white and circular, not curled and segmented with a dark, brown head. I explained this to the owner and, to prove my point, asked to see the worm I'd found again. Unsurprisingly, he returned to say it had been thrown in the bin. At no point did he apologise, or offer any kind of compensation or price reduction. To add insult to injury, when our bill arrived, we found we had been overcharged: the prices they were asking were higher than those advertised on their menu outside. In short: the staff were rude, patronising, and unreasonable - ruining what had been, until that point, a fairly enjoyable evening. The chicken caldin is by far the greatest curry I have ever had; its creaminess is beautifully offset by the heat of several green chilies within the dish, making it the most perfectly balanced, flavourful curry I have ever had. The onion bhajis are crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, nothing is greasy, the meat is fresh and delicious, whether eating in or taking away the waiting time is never unreasonable.
