It is fun to check out all of the historic buildings from Vero's early years. Many of the buildings date from the 1920's during Florida's land boom years. During this time period there was a tradition of naming buildings and streets after Native American tribes like in the case with the 1918 Seminole Building. The first county offices of Indian River were located on the second floor of the Seminole building until the Indian River County Courthouse was built in 1935. Today the building houses Napier and Rollins, family law attorneys and the Treasure Coast Newspaper. Nice to see the old building still has life left in her.

Kudos for the movie collection of DVDs. Extensive DVD collection that is well curated. This library has probably the most extensive smart selection of DVDs under one roof of any library I have been to in a long while as it has easily the best selection of movies of all 17 branches of the Brevard County Libraries. This would be the library that Roger Ebert would have loved. One favorite part of this library is the Rock Concert DVDs as they had heaps of live concerts from an eclectic range of bands & solo artists. I picked up seven for there was some really good stuff here. Besides DVDs there is a nice quiet reading room w/ comfy chairs. Worth checking out!

The old Fort Pierce Post Office was built in 1935 by the Works Progress Administration, a New Deal…read moreagency created by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1935 to put Americans back to work after the Great Depression. The post office was designed by Louis A. Simon in a Mission Revival style. In addition to serving as a post office, the building also held civic functions for the town. On February 11, 2092 it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The post office closed in 2001 in order to push traffic towards two newer locations. Fort Pierce purchased the property from the U.S. Postal Service in 2002. The city was looking for someone to operate a business in the building in keeping with their Orange Avenue plan which requires new businesses that open to support museums, art, culture, or music. In 2017, Ft. Pierce sold the Post Office for $139,000 to Fort Pierce residents who planned to capitalize off the Fort Pierce market and use the building to turn it into a 5 day a week local goods market inside. Construction of the market was supposed to have begun in the summer of 2017. The city turned down other offers from people who didn't have a concrete development plan. So far nothing has been done and the building remains empty.

The postal employees I've had the most interaction at this location are Antonio, Sonia and Al. Never an issue - never a problem - and always courteous. And on more than one occasion I've received packaging or mailing instructions that have saved me on postal costs. I've been to 3 different post offices in Vero Beach and this is my favorite. The postal carrier on my route has been consistently delivering my mail to my neighbors house with the same number for 18 months. My neighbor is tired of bringing my mail over and i am tired of asking him for it!. I have been to the post office on more than one occasion and spent hours waiting to speak with a supervisor who promises to speak with the mail carrier, however noting changes.
