There are many monks who live on the premise and help take care of the property. The service is usually on Sundays starting at 10am and afterwards, they serve a vegetarian lunch for free as well. You leave your shoes outside on the front porch and men usually sit on the left and women on the right. For those that don't speak or understand Vietnamese, there are new awesome headphones you can wear to hear what everyone is saying translated into English. You can speak with the monks as some do speak in English. They also offer a class on Sundays that teach Vietnamese for anyone wanting to learn. It is mostly younger 2nd and 3rd generation Vietnamese kids, but anyone is welcome. This place has come a long way in the past 25 years or so from services being held in someone's living room to moving to this property on the corner of 30th and Emerson. It's expanded due to its very charitable group of followers. services and celebrations were held in an old garage and then finally a few years ago the new larger building was built. the property is beautiful mostly in the spring and summer time. any Vietnamese or buddhist holiday there is a special celebration and definitely worth coming to check out, especially Mother's day, Lunar New Years, Buddha's birthday, and the Fall Celebration. Just remember to bow your head out of respect to the buddha, the monks, and really anyone older than you. You'll notice with the sound of the gong it is usually a sign to bow down and pay your respects. They will understand if you don't but it's just the respectable thing to do when entering. The temple does great things for the vietnamese kids in the community and always accept donations, and are doing fundraising events. All food served there is vegetarian and during the large celebrations you can buy some to take home as well! Food is delicious and many times you won't even miss the meat.

While not as impressive as the An Lac temple, the large central Buddha statue in the meeting room is very impressive and serene. The Center is a very peaceful place to meditate or pray. Many activities at the Center cost, which is one potential con vs other Buddhist options in the city. However, there are free prayer services offered if paying isn't really your thing. I'm not a Tibetan Buddhist--most of my Buddhism comes from Japan--but I found the basic principals of Mahayana Buddhism being well taught at the Center. One thing I personally REALLY love about this Center is that they treat Buddhism as a religion and not as an alternative to Pilates. I think every other Buddhist group in the city that I've interacted with is indifferent to the religious nature of Buddhism at best and often apologetic for it. Denominations of traditional Buddhism have as much pomp and circumstances as most denominations of traditional Christianity. Pretending that Buddhism is no different than Dale Carnegie has its place, but this is not that place. If you would like to openly and legitimately pray and meditate, the Dromtonpa Kadampa Buddhist Center is for you.

Amazing classes in a beautiful setting. The best place to learn about Buddhism and to meditate.read more

It's so very peaceful. We visited the gift shop where we were tended to by a zealously attentive gentleman, before we set off to wander a bit. There's much to see here - monuments and Buddhas and the prayer wheels and a whole lot of nature. I'll admit that even though we were told we could visit the monks on the temple, we felt too shy to visit, not wanting to disturb the monks, and because we hadn't studied up on protocols before pur visit. But even without meeting them, wandering the grounds is such a treat. Tip: make sure to bring some change or other offerings. Throughout the property you'll find Buddha statues where you may make an offering. I had limited change, so once I ran out, at the last Buddha I left a small citrine I happened to have in my pocket. I love this place and already feel it calling me back. It's so quiet and beautiful and peaceful. Highly recommend, very pleasant!
