I'm officially a member of Healthplex!!! They have two pools, tennis courts, a track, cardio ellipticals downtown and strength training ellipticals. I just found out that they have a massage therapist and will be booking a session soon. The only thing that can be a downside is that you have to let them know to two months in advance (at the beginning of that month) that you want to cancel your membership. read more

I have been a member of this gym for too long. The equipment is old and broken and there is limited space to create individual workouts. Theres a lot of "smoke and mirrors" to a membership and you will be Nickeled and dimed by all their changing rules and extra fees. This gym treats non members way better than members. It is clear that they rely on the members monthly fees for reliable revenue but give preference to non members for additional revenue. Much of the gym is upstairs and there is NEVER staff available and they do not keep towels stocked like they do down stairs. In fact, an email went out to all members threatening to charge them for missing towels, when in reality, the non members who consume the gym with basketball and tennis tournaments have full access to the gym and are probably the ones stealing the towels. When these tournaments occur ... members have no access to these parts of the facility. Also, I have never once seen a staff person cleaning any equipment. There are far superior facilities throughout the city where rates are better and as a member will be treated better. As a reference ... if I played tennis a couple of times a week, my membership fees would be at least a few hundred dollars a month. read more

Like Fred a few years ago, $65/month is pretty steep. The only reason it appealed to me is because the gym is clean. There is a below average amount of weights for lifting. There's only one machine for some exercises that are popular enough to need multiple (lat pulldown, row, cable machine). I would have given three stars, but the membership cancellation experience took one off. You have to cancel in person, which was fine. I was then told because I didn't give a 30 day notice before May 1st that I would be charged the full month (another $65). I looked all over the member portal for info related to any policies like this and couldn't find any. No way to cancel online. I also can't get prorate for May. Honestly left me feeling like I got hustled on the way out. Go to the YMCA. It's cheaper, gets you full area access, and has as many facilities. read more

Been a member while owned by Community Health... they had their own maintenance crew to work on the pools ,which is all I use Since change of ownership they have swicted to daily pool service contractor. Pools seem to be unable to use quite frequently. Same with the whirlpools. Of course, very difficult to cancel membership, then when I do , they're going to charge me another month. I don't know what everybody pays, but it's costing me $59 a month. Go to the local Y. read more

About two years ago I paid for an event somehow the wrong credit card was charged and that person disputed the charges I talked to the accounting department and thought I got it all resolved. Come to find out two years later I was sent to a collection agency not only for the $45 charge originally mishandled but an extra $100 which is the cost for sending me to collections. I talked to Peg who is not a nice person at all and offered to pay the $45 since it was never taken care of 2 YEARS AGO like I was told and she refused to work with me on the $100 charge. This company has screwed me over several times with money that I will not even take a Deka event with them or have any dealings with them whatsoever. I filed a complaint with the BBB because I heard from the collection agency that 5 other people were disputing charges just yesterday that their accounting department messed up. I just want to warn everyone about this and if anyone has similar stories please contact the BBB I have opened a case with them!!! read more

Pros: Tons of cardio and weight equipment, no waiting for machines, clean facilities Cons: Price (you'll pay for a lot of features you may not want to use), cafe that displays unhealthy food(???) I was a NIFS member until I moved to Broad Ripple. Like hell if I was going to join the LA Fitness up there (long lines, no one is friendly, crowded), so since my boyfriend was already a member here I just joined his account. My membership is around $55 which isn't so bad, but his is a lot more. I have never had to wait for a machine, and even at peak hours (after work, weekend mornings) this place has so many cardio machines open. I never feel crowded, which I love. The cardio machines have many TVs in front mounted on the wall, and each machine has a plug in so you can listen to whichever tv you want. I like this a lot better than some places that have TVs, but just put on closed caption for you. NIFS has personalized TVs for each cardio machine which I liked much better, because I could watch whatever channel I wanted, but this is a close second. The classes here are great, A good variety of classes at different times for everyone's schedule. I love classes with Ann (step and body shaping) because she is friendly and never makes me feel silly because I can't keep up with her crazy steps! I have never felt embarassed in a class like I have at some other gyms when I don't get the moves right. They have two pools (lap pool and hydrotherapy pool), tons of tennis courts and racquetball. I can't think of a better gym in Indianapolis--and that's why I've been a member since 2008. The Healthplex's facility is huge and has tons of cardio and weight equipment. The gym area is large, and there is plenty of room to spread out. The equipment is up-to-date and management tries to replace older items with the newest equipment available. They also offer plenty of free classes (Body Pump, Spinning, Zumba, etc) as well as ones that require a small fee (Pilates, Self-defense). The workout areas are very clean, and you'll never get through a workout without seeing janitorial staff hard at work. The Healthplex has two pools, one for lap swimming and one for hydrotherapy and general play. Both are indoor, heated, and available all year. The pools are clean and were recently redone. Swimming lessons and Masters are available at cost. The Healthplex also has indoor and outdoor tennis courts. I'm not a tennis player, but I can tell that the facility is very nice. There are also racquetball courts as well as a large basketball court. The locker rooms at the Healthplex are great! They feature free and paid locker usage, showers, whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms. Some people seem to use their entire membership just in the locker room. Of course, like the rest of the facility, the locker rooms are clean. The Healthplex also has a full-service spa as well as a cafe. You really can spend an entire day at this facility! The most positive aspect of the Healthplex is the staff. The staff makes a concerted effort to get to know each member--as well as help them to be as physically fit as possible. I have lost 60lbs since joining. If it were not for the assistance of the training and fitness staff, I never would have made it. Do yourself a favor and check out the Westview Healthplex. I've been working out at the new name Indianapolis Healthplex since last year. I was doing workouts on my own, and I was also taking some cardio classes too. I loved the HIIT classes which is taught by Terra, as well as Turbo Kick class. So, last Wednesday(5/15) I decided to work out again simply, because I need to get in shape. I took the 5pm HIIT class which lasted about 45mins, I did a lot of burpees(which I hate), squats, and arm workouts. Although, the workouts were tough I was keeping up with the class, and I missed the hard work. If, you're wondering what is HIIT is it stands for High-intensity interval training. In, other words a very intense cardio class. I do plan on working out more, and continuing my HIIT classes. Also, I don't like how the HIIT program on Mondays got moved from the 5pm slot to 6:45pm slot. read more

Which include showers, separate whirlpools (for men/women), saunas, and steam rooms -- not to mention towel service! Personally, not a tennis player - but coming from a lot of friends that play - this is the spot! As they do not charge court time. The Healthplex reminds me of my old gym in Cali, the Monterey Sports Center. Minus the wharf and beach views of course. :P There are plenty of things to do to get your butt (or my big 'ole butt) into shape. Such as, the cardio area (you can find me on the treadmills w/TVs :P ), lap pool, therapy pool, 6 or so tennis courts, racked ball rooms, the indoor track, and they also have a lot of great weight machines. There are also spinning, step, pool aerobic, and stretch classes that are free. Free to members that is.. The woman's locker room is always clean and is always stocked with fresh towels. But wear your flip flops! And, who doesn't love a whirlpool, steam room, and sauna? Oh, another tip I can add is, avoid at 12:30-1:30. They have a swim summer camp and it's hard to relax in the whirlpool when there are 10 screaming pre-teens running around. Some cons are that membership is very expensive and while most classes are free, you unfortunately have to pay to take any of the yoga & pilates classes. But overall I'm happy with this gym. I'll be even more happy when I fit back into my skinny jeans. :P read more

Great gym. The staff is caring and wonderful. Gym has everything you could ever ask for: pool, whirl pool, sauna and steam room, 6 basketball goals, lots of tennis courts, cardio machines, full weight room, towel service and a cafe. I love this place. I've been a member for about 15 years and recommend it to everyone. It has a free on site day care for members, so you're children can be covered when you want to get your exercise in. Loads of group fitness classes, sports lessons, and training. Only thing I don't like is that they use the basketball courts for pickleball, but that is only because I've the former and loathe the latter lol. 10/10 recommend. read more

This was my first time visiting community health plex and I was pleasantly surprised! I am a member to LA fitness, but I had a guest pass for the health plex. This was a much bigger facility than my LA fitness! There is a basketball court, free weights, cardio floor, swimming pool, wellness pool, fitness rooms, saunas, whirlpools, racquetball courts, and indoor tennis courts. There is definitely something for everyone. There is even a kids zone daycare type area, and a court side cafe' where you can get food and drinks. I came around 12:30 on a Friday, so it wasn't super crowded. I can however see this gym to be very crowded during after work hours. The upstairs is very nice and features the weights and indoor track. The workers here are all super friendly and ready to answer questions or help with whatever you need! I for sure would look into a membership here if it wouldn't cost me $59 a month. read more

I just recently joined this gym and I have to say, it's pretty great. As a beginner triathlete and gym user in general, finding a gym was pretty daunting, but when I toured the place, I was amazed at all of the different features they had! Here we go: A great lap pool and heated pool, a running track, very high tech cardio machines (spin bikes and treadmills with TV's, Internet access, etc.), great weight equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts, indoor running track, tons of free workout classes with your membership, separate hot tubs/steam rooms for men and women, large locker rooms with all the towels you'll ever need, hair dryers, lockers, a tv lounge area in the locker room, a cafe, a spa/nail/massage salon with good prices.....the list goes on and on. This is a gem of a gym. Every amenity I could ask for included and easy to access. The cardio area has many options and several of each machine so there always something open for you. Upstairs is the weight area and it is laid out in an easy to understand way with lots of options for everyone again. The pool times are scheduled and you can find that information on the monthly bulletin. Laps at lunch time or a water aerobics class are all available. Locker rooms are nice, bring your own lock and use one of the many available lockers daily or rent one from the facility monthly. Towel service, scales and basic toiletries are available as well. The steam and sauna rooms are attached to each locker room as well as the hot tub and pool access. Showers can be hit or miss and I feel this area could always use improvement (at least on the men's side) There is a cafe with a variety of items pre packed as well as a limited made to order menu. Service here can be a challenge some days though. read more

A neighbor offered us free trial pass here so a friend and I tried it out mostly to see what aqua zumba was all about. This is the only place around Indy that I can find it offered. So I get there and parking is ridiculous. I circled around 5 times to even find not just a close spot but any spot at all. Plus the parking lot is laid out so that to it's south not sure if so many cars are there or what that day, it was like driving down 2 dead ends. I was already frustrated before stepping foot in there. Well I get inside to be told there are meeting spaces upstairs so people come not just to workout but for meetings so it's often hard to find parking. So we get to the locker room which looks like it hasn't been updated for at least 10 years. That's like 100 years in gym facilities these days. Well, to make matters worse the showers, the hot tub, and the pool area are disgusting. There is rust where towels should be hung throughout. The hot tub water was yellow and I just left there even after my shower feeling GROSS. If you didn't bring shower shoes then you probably want to wait to get home to shower. The carpet is dingy. Well as for the class, I am not sure if this was how aqua zumba was suppose to be or not because all the zumba classes I have ever taken have made me sweat, pant, and feel like I have accomplished something while having the time of my life(for a workout) and wanting more. This one I couldn't wait until the hour was over. I barely moved in the water. The music can barely be heard. There was no excitement in the class. I felt like such a waste of time and couldn't believe I got no workout and actually stayed extra to run a few laps in the pool just to feel like I got somewhat of a workout. Gyms need to stay competitive, clean, and somewhat updated. Looks like this one put all their money into their basketball court and nothing else. I could understand if it was dirt cheap or even half way reasonable but it was $149 initiation fee and $59/month per person using one of their discounts or $79/month per person normally. Holy Moly. Have they stepped foot into the Butler Health and Wellness and Rec Center(newer, nicer, cleaner, better neighborhood, cheaper), any LA Fitness(Much Cheaper and Newer), Lifetime Fitness (that's 24 hours, more well kept), Cardinal fitness (doesn't offer as much but WAY cleaner and cheaper), Carmel Monon Center (Way newer, better, cleaner, cheaper) etc...? After touring the place, I don't understand if the people who join this gym haven't seen what else is out there or don't want to drive a few extra minutes or what? This reminds me of when I came here 10 years ago to work up a deal with them while I was on the government board at Butler University. We didn't have a nice rec center yet back then so we wanted to work something out so that students could have a gym to belong to or work out at for some type of discount or if we can work something out with student activity fees so that students could have access on certain days or something. It was newer back then, the pacers use to work out there, and they just thought they were the sh*t and did not need Butler students working out there. Funny because our health center/gym kicks this one's butt and we open it to students, faculty, staff, admin, alumni, and the community. Whatever their issue is, don't drink the kool-aid. read more

I just joined so I do not have too much to go on so far except that this is a gym where the non-gym rat will feel comfortable...and that's kind of a big deal. Every time I have been there is plenty of room on the walking track which circles the upstairs. There are always enough machines, everyone is minding their own business and sweating. It's clean, the people are clean, it smells clean (this is clearly important to me). Oh, and their locker rooms!! Soaps, shampoos, lotions, hair dryers, towels, are all provided. There is a hot tub and sauna in the locker rooms, two pools, tennis courts, racquetball, basketball, and lots of weights. The cafe is delish, I had teriyaki chicken with brown rice and it was made fresh in front of me. I ate some for dinner, took it to lunch the next day, and still had leftovers...for $7!! I have a love/hate relationship with this place. I like all of the people who work behind the desk and in the club at nights and on the weekends. They make me smile. And I love the sauna, because it gets up to 180 degrees. What I don't like is the executive management, specifically their disregard for clients and customer service, and their gruff, unhappy nature. Last August my $400+ phone was stolen, from my locker, which I rent monthly. I filled out an incident report, but did not call the police as a courtesy to Westview Healthplex. The executive management was supposed to follow up with me the next day, but they never got back to me. Not the next day, next week or next month. Never spoke a single word about it. read more

I belonged to the JCC until we moved to Pike township and wanted something closer. This is definitely the nicest gym on the west side of town and probably one of the nicest in Indy as a whole. The facility is huge, clean, and well maintained, with a wide range of offerings. Staff are professional and friendly -- the maintenance and housekeeping staff in particular are the best. Instructors here genuinely care about members, whatever your age or fitness level. Membership here is diverse and family-friendly, and whatever your background or fitness level, you're never made to feel like you don't fit in. Pools here are shallow, and the therapy pool is a true therapy pool and very warm. These may be pluses or minuses depending on your needs. Lifeguards are well trained and attentive, and swim instruction is excellent. Oh, just fyi, lane sharing is not the norm here. The lap pool is not that busy and a lane is almost always open, but just a heads-up on that in case you're coming from a pool where you're used to joining a lane. The cardio area is rarely crowded, and even during peak hours I've never had to wait for a machine. Clean towels are always available, although they sometimes run out of cleaning rags late at night. The cafe in front is surprisingly good. I'm trying hard not to become addicted to the smoothies, which are delicious but tend to undo the benefits of my workout. What is not so great: In the past, track etiquette here has been some kind of awful. The track itself is terrific, but you would see everything... people strolling three abreast, tennis spectators chit-chatting on cells while blocking lanes. During tournaments, I've seen tennis players sit with laptops between matches, legs stretched out across lanes. The facility has recently made changes to manage track flow, and I'm enjoying my jog time more these days. Also, as other people have mentioned, several classes require additional fees. This is not surprising when it comes to, say, pilates or suspension training, but less easy to understand when the class is something like "boot camp." Nonetheless, it's an extremely nice gym. Depending on your insurance, you might be able to save some on your monthly membership. This was true for my Cigna coverage, so definitely ask. read more

This place is great! Facilities are clean, layout is easy and convenient, free class options, as well as other medical and fitness services, staff are helpful and friendly (except that one guy at the front desk on saturday laughing at the zumba newbies on the main floor ;-P), but the best thing is the great community. Very family friendly and i appreciate the diversity. We also got a great deal at the open house. I'm definitely recommending this place to my neighbors and friends. Updated 3/16/16: after using a few more of the features (i.e. showers, hot tub and pool) can see that there is some need for improvements. Probably the best gym in Indy. At the most expensive as well, it should be. It has everything--tennis, pool, comprehensive cardio room (some call it Cardio Theater, but since some of the members insist on watching Fox News, I can't bring myself to call it theater), free weights and machines, three studios. I have tried every evening and weekend class and for the most part they are great. Here's what is NOT so great. People talk in pilates. You ask them to be quiet. They won't shut up. Worst of all they think they are funny and constantly make wise cracks. It's been brought up to management by various people various times, but nothing works. Women's locker room/shower area. It says right on the door that boys over 4 are not allowed, yet a woman keeps bringing her pervie little kid in. He stands outside her shower then stares at women who are disrobing. Gross. He must be over the age because she also constantly brings him into the women's hot tub, which clearly states No Children Under 6. Hours: close at 8pm on Sat and Sun and often close for stupid events like Colts going to playoffs. Cafe: they serve fattening food and cook it while you're working out. Spa: way too expensive. Yoga costs extra. Why? Pilates, Body Pump, and Spinning all require special certification for trainers, so no one understands why yoga is extra and why it is so expensive. read more

I joined Westview Healthplex last year after moving to the area. (As a local corporate member) The enrollment process went very smooth, the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the equipment and class offerings. The one thing I was hesitant about was the monthly fee, a bit higher than I wanted, but I figured I give it a go for a few months. Soon after, I realized that this health club is far above most others. They hours are great for working professionals. The equipment is all high-end, fairly new, and in great shape (there are hardly any times where machines are down for maintenance). There are also plenty of machines for the 'rush' hours (I've never really had to wait for a treadmill, plus there's an indoor track...) There is a great free-weight area and Pilates/stretching area. The private class offerings are nice too, no sign-up requirements (except for Yoga, I think) with knowledgeable instructors. (My favorite is spin class with Nat) Also, there are always staff-members on hand to help you with any issue, which is good to have for questions or concerns. The changing room and showers are also fantastic, plenty of lockers, good privacy, fresh towels, clean and well-kept showers/bathrooms, nice sauna and steam room, plus a whirl-pool. There is a regular pool, but I prefer to swim at the Natatorium in downtown Indy (the water at WVHP is a bit warm for hard swimming). I' m not a tennis player, but I was impressed with the size of the courts (maybe I'll pick it up during the winter...) The cafe is pretty nice to get an after-workout snake or protein shake and even though I haven't take advantage of it, the massage parlor looks pretty enticing. One downside is parking; it can be packed some days, especially for big tennis events. And like I said before, there are cheaper places to be a member at (but not necessarily nicer or with as many amenities) Overall, I enjoy being a member here. Being a cyclist, it's also convenient to freeze my account for up to 3 months in the summer. It is pricey, but after trialing other local gyms, I now understand why it is a notch above the rest. Staff are very friendly and courteous - absolutely LOVE the variety of machines and free weights the gym offers. There are a lot of other great facilities (pool, tennis and basketball courts, spas, etc). I am an avid basketball fan, but I sometimes have a difficult time playing on the courts because it is so slippery (a little oily perhaps?) and it can be VERY crowded at times. I've also noticed that the entire building is a bit warm - you can get used to it after a while but it makes you wonder if the the A/C is broken at times. I would strongly recommend checking out this place is you are looking for a bigger-sized gym for a decent price. The trainers are awesome here too! read more

I am so happy to have found this gym. I've not been a member of other Indy area gyms, but had memberships at several in our previous city and none can compare to the Healthplex. What I love most about it is that it's not a scene, but it is serious about its members' health and well being. You're surrounded by members are of all sizes, colors, and ages. It makes my heart sing to see people moving after what appears to be injury/surgery/rehab... or maybe just years of inactivity... not to mention the senior citizens who appear far more fit than me (!!). The staff support that fun variety of folks - they are friendly (though the levels of front desk staff competence vary). My family and I have used the Healthplex in many different ways. I'm hooked on the Pilates Reformer classes - a variety of instructors and a really low cost to members (surely the lowest in town). I also use cardio equipment - all of which is clean, available and in working order. My toddler enjoys free swim at the indoor therapy pool and my school-age child takes swimming and tennis lessons here. Locker rooms are good for what is required - not luxury but appropriate, clean, spacious and comfortable. My only issue is that you can't schedule various things (lessons, classes, etc) online. All of it has to be done by phone or in person, which sometimes is a challenge depending on who is helping you. All in all though - love this place! read more

The food at the cafe is actually good, and I like having the option of grabbing something to eat when I'm on the run. Love the tennis courts. Childcare available for busy parents. The front desk staff is the best! Parking is only an issue a couple of times, but there are so many people coming and going that spots open up pretty often. I have been a member of the Healthplex off and on over the years. We mainly used the club for our children's summer camp and to take swimming classes and for the spa (when it was open). It has often seemed that the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. I often tried to make payments for summer camp and some of the counselors would not know how to make a transaction. This past March I cancelled our 3 boys' memberships as we have moved and this went relatively smoothly. In June, I tried to cancel my membership. I waited to talk to someone in memberships, but apparently no one was available (not the first time that this happened). They had me fill out a form. The next thing I know is that I am getting a Welcome to the Healthplex email. I politely send an email back that I am not a new member and that I just quit my membership. Nothing in return. In the mean time, I call Kent (member services) and leave multiple messages and times to call me. Guess what? After multiple messages, he calls me on a Friday evening while I am out to dinner. He says he didn't understand and was waiting for "information". He said that he did get my paperwork finally to terminate my membership. He wanted to know my intentions. I told him again, that we had moved and no longer needed a membership. He said he would go ahead and cancel. Then I look on my credit card statement and see that I have been billed for both Aug and Sept 2018. I called Kent Allison again multiple times only to have to email him. He said that HE had in HIS notes that he didn't know what my intentions were, blah, blah. I expressed my disappointed in their services in an email since he didn't have the professional courtesy to email me. Very disappointed in customer satisfaction. If you do use them, go above Kent, ask for copies of all paper work and get in writing what they say they are going to do! read more
