This NWish side gym is the best around. Nice equipment, staff, cleanliness, class offerings. But best of all, the locker rooms. Which include showers, separate whirlpools (for men/women), saunas, and steam rooms -- not to mention towel service! Personally, not a tennis player - but coming from a lot of friends that play - this is the spot! As they do not charge court time. You may pay slightly less at other area gyms, but I would still highly recommend this facility - with the amenities they offer. Easy access to I-65 -- less than 15 minutes from downtown!

The Healthplex reminds me of my old gym in Cali, the Monterey Sports Center. Minus the wharf and beach views of course. :P There are plenty of things to do to get your butt (or my big 'ole butt) into shape. Such as, the cardio area (you can find me on the treadmills w/TVs :P ), lap pool, therapy pool, 6 or so tennis courts, racked ball rooms, the indoor track, and they also have a lot of great weight machines. There are also spinning, step, pool aerobic, and stretch classes that are free. Free to members that is.. The woman's locker room is always clean and is always stocked with fresh towels. But wear your flip flops! And, who doesn't love a whirlpool, steam room, and sauna? Oh, another tip I can add is, avoid at 12:30-1:30. They have a swim summer camp and it's hard to relax in the whirlpool when there are 10 screaming pre-teens running around. Some cons are that membership is very expensive and while most classes are free, you unfortunately have to pay to take any of the yoga & pilates classes. But overall I'm happy with this gym. I'll be even more happy when I fit back into my skinny jeans. :P

I just recently joined this gym and I have to say, it's pretty great. As a beginner triathlete and gym user in general, finding a gym was pretty daunting, but when I toured the place, I was amazed at all of the different features they had! Here we go: A great lap pool and heated pool, a running track, very high tech cardio machines (spin bikes and treadmills with TV's, Internet access, etc.), great weight equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts, indoor running track, tons of free workout classes with your membership, separate hot tubs/steam rooms for men and women, large locker rooms with all the towels you'll ever need, hair dryers, lockers, a tv lounge area in the locker room, a cafe, a spa/nail/massage salon with good prices.....the list goes on and on. I'm getting all of this for 55 bucks a month. It's a steal! If you're interested in getting a tour or trying them out for a few days, talk to Kari!

This was my first time visiting community health plex and I was pleasantly surprised! I am a member to LA fitness, but I had a guest pass for the health plex. This was a much bigger facility than my LA fitness! There is a basketball court, free weights, cardio floor, swimming pool, wellness pool, fitness rooms, saunas, whirlpools, racquetball courts, and indoor tennis courts. There is definitely something for everyone. There is even a kids zone daycare type area, and a court side cafe' where you can get food and drinks. I came around 12:30 on a Friday, so it wasn't super crowded. I can however see this gym to be very crowded during after work hours. The upstairs is very nice and features the weights and indoor track. The workers here are all super friendly and ready to answer questions or help with whatever you need! I for sure would look into a membership here if it wouldn't cost me $59 a month.

How much for a one day pass, and are you able to use the whole facility?

A guest pass is $15 and allows you to attend classes as well as use the entire facility for that day. We have a therapy pool, lap pool, steam room, saunas, cardio, weights, basketball racquet ball, indoor and outdoor tennis courts plus an amazing…

Anybody know the membership cost and options?

It's $59.99 per month. I don't believe that the new ownership is extending any sort of discounts.

Then, Lisa started leading us in a slow flow, and I felt like I was at home. This is an amazing yoga studio, and I'm so glad it exists here in Indianapolis. I visited Cityoga for the first time on a particularly auspicious day. It was International Day of Yoga AND the official first full day of summer! Lisa led us in a sun-related flow, with lots of sun salutations, of course. I love Lisa's style of teaching. As we were settling on our mats at the beginning of class, she started with a very brief explanation of the origin of yoga, in the area that is now India, and shared her thanks that it had made its way all the way around the globe. I really appreciated that she took the time to mention this. All throughout the class, the ideas she shared and the words she said really had an impact on me, and a couple of times, I got a little teary! I haven't cried during a yoga class since my mom died almost two years ago. I wish I could remember exactly the things she said, but I was in the present moment and lost in the flow, and her words just washed over me and settled into the cracks. I left feeling like something had shifted in me. I almost felt high! All of this sounds like hyperbole, but it's true. I've been practicing yoga daily for two years, and overall for three years, and my class at Cityoga was the best yoga class I've experienced yet! It's a bit of a drive for me, but I'm already plotting ways to make sure I fit a Cityoga class or two into my schedule each month. It is worth the drive and effort to practice in this warm and welcoming studio, and with teachers like Lisa.

I am happy to say that 8 students were present at Shane Photography for the first session of Inner Peace Yoga's new Tuesday evening Beginner I yoga class - including myself and hubby. Inner Peace Yoga owners Carol and Charles Crenshaw teach in the Himalayan tradition, which is what I first experienced years ago and still one of my favorite methods of practice. While vinyasa flow, power yoga and hot yoga seem to be all the rage these days - and they certainly serve a great many individuals - I prefer a slower pace where postures are held and/or repeated. I also like to incorporate breathwork and meditation into my practice. That is why I enjoyed IPY's new Carmel class so much - it really reminded me of what made me interested in yoga in the first place - when I left I felt at peace, more focused and de-stressed. Normally a late-nighter, I was ready for bed at 10:30 and slept like a log. I also tend to favor IPY's approach of building one's practice over time In other words, if you're totally new to yoga, you begin at the beginning and establish a foundation of yoga postures, breathing awareness and technique and movement. Then, as you feel comfortable and your instructor thinks you are ready, you progress to more challenging classes. In this way, you are less likely to get injured or simply become disillusioned with your practice. Plus, you really learn about yoga from the inside-out, in my opinion, which makes it much more possible to develop a home practice. Another bonus: IPY offers classes, workshops and other events on complementary subjects such as meditation, ayurveda, chanting and the like, as well as retreats. These are particularly helpful if you are more interested in expanding your yoga practice beyond postures on the mat :-)
