This cute little shop in O'Bryonville contains some beautiful hand made items from many local artists. You could spend hours in this store just trying to look at it all. The shop is great for gifts. Each area of the shop is works by any particular artist grouped together. Most of the artists are from various places in Ohio and some are from farther. You will find a good deal of pottery, glassware, mosaics, lots of jewelry, glass for your garden, and knick knacks for animal lovers. There were several things that caught my eye and I wanted to buy, but sadly, as they are handcrafted, they can be pricey. They had these little glass jewelry boxes that are soldered together like stained glass and had little beads in the top and glass in the bottom. The stained glass windows were gorgeous. There were these swirly patterns in the glass that you don't traditionally see in stained glass. I also noticed a clearance jewelry section up in front by the register. The place was really busy when I was there as it's a must stop along the antique and arts district that is O'Bryonville. You will find something for everyone on your list here! read more

If you're looking for something classy, unique, and locally made then this store is definitely for you!! The items they sell are all very high quality, and thus, usually out of my budget. Fair warning for those with cat allergies, they have a store cat. I love when stores feel homey, including pets, but after awhile, my eyes were getting quite itchy. I suppose that was one way to ensure I didn't buy something ultimately out of my price range, though. So many times I have been to O'Bryonville and have NEVER known about this place. TERRIBLE!! I'd consider myself an artsy kind of gal and have a softness in my soul for supporting local artists and for that, I can't believe I've deprived myself of visiting this place. When "A Show of Hands" closed up shop (it used to be at Kenwood Mall) I was so disappointed that we didn't really have a great place to go for unique gifts. We had to wait for Summerfair and Winterfair or travel around to art fairs in other cities just to find something for those who have everything (and you know you have some of THOSE friends...). No more! Indigenous was an accident waiting to happen. I was on Facebook checking out "Favorite Pages" from other Cincinnati Business "Fan Pages" and this one came up. Their Facebook page always seemed to talk about getting in new "tiles" (the artsy kind, not the Home Depot clearance kind) and several of them were interesting. (I'm a big fan of ceramics in almost any form.) More recently, I started checking out other photos they had posted and with my best friends birthday approaching, I knew I had to check it out. There is so much variety in this store it's easy to miss things. They have mobiles hanging from above, stained glass, ceramics, jewelry, metal sculptures, cards, paintings, an abundantly large selection of glass marbles (really?!), etc... and all of local/regional artists. I don't recall seeing anything that looked like it came from a mass manufactured plant. Prices are very diverse (meaning anywhere from your child's average weekly allowance to an entire months paycheck), but I expect that after having visited so many art shows. If you have any interest in supporting the arts community, you should definitely check out Indigenous. Birthdays, babies, housewarming, or just in need of retail therapy, there's a good chance you'll find it here. I can't wait to go back for more!! read more

We walked by Indigenous without paying it much thought because we assumed that it was a "way out of our league" art gallery from the sign and the windows. Happily for us, we noticed whimsical puppy-themed art in the door on our way back down the street and a sign that read "Nice dogs welcome," so we knew Indigenous was a place for us. Dog lovers, unite! Indigenous is definitely a high-end store (the smallest price tag I saw in the entire store was $45 and it was for a tiny metal statue) but it's not at all snobby and features fun art, nothing is stuffy or conceited. My sister fell in love with a canvas depicting an inspirational quote and a daisy. The canvas was unique; it looked as it it were paper mached, and had cute details like buttons as the core of the flower. There wasn't a price tag on it so we didn't ask...if the price isn't displayed, it's out of our budget! Once I start makin' the big money (and who knows if that'll ever happen, but I can dream) I will return to Indigenous to pick out beautiful blown glass spheres and exceptional art to decorate my home! read more

The store and its Artists are wonderful, but as far as the owners well... I am a new Artist to the area from Chicago where I have shown in galleries. As a new artist to the area I had sent in not only once, but twice, my portfolio to Indigneous. I called two weeks after my first email and then followed up with a second email and a phone call to the store. I am sadly disappointed in the lack of respect the owners have for new Artists. I never received an email back or a phone call. If my bracelets are not what the store is looking for at the very least, they could have called and shown some respect. With that said I have my bracelets in Nashville, TN and in stores in Vail and Breckenridge Colorado. Just very sad the way a local Artist who is new to the area was treated by the owners. I have been shopping here for years and I usually wait until later in the Christmas season to head toward their location. Today I had an early opportunity to sneak out and get a head start. Everything was well and I snagged several items as I came in that my wife might enjoy. The store was not too crowded but it was busy. One of the items was a small memento piece of pottery from a famous local pottery manufacturer. I saw the one I wanted and grabbed it as asked to put it the register for me since many of the items are one of a kind or limited editions. As I begin to check out I noticed some spots in the glaze. I asked if there were another available....we'll talk about rolling of eyes..and a not too pleasant a experience from that point. The woman that was writing the item up did not acknowledge me from that point on, finally asked if I wanted her to look in the stockroom for another like she was doing me a favor. They had one fortunately and I was able to change it out. But the whole attitude really put a damper on the spirit of giving local art and supporting this shop. I'll be back in the future but after thinking about posting this I'm still steamed after 2 hours. Thanks for having great items but really thanks for ruining a special treat as a returning shopper during a traditional outing. I won't forget!! read more

Indigenous is the best shop to get unique gifts! We went to a labor day party at an apartment in Mount Adams with a beautiful vista of the city and river. How can you find a thank-you gift that is as grand as that? Well, we stopped by Ten Thousand Villages across the street first. Great staff, but the items weren't quite what we wanted. Then I remembered Indigenous, which I had visited once before. We went in and found all kinds of beautiful, more contemporary items (something that would look nice in the modernly decorated apartment) and, alas, we found a signed 1995 print (matted) of none other than Mount Adams itself! You could even see the apartment building in the artwork! It was absolutely perfect and tasteful! Indigenous really showed off its care when we checked out. We told the staff it was a gift, so they wrapped it up in a beautiful string, thistle and paper ensemble, and also threw in a gift receipt, should the artwork not be suitable in the house- no charge. It was a great experience at an amazing store! read more
