You know that you are at the right place when you smell the soap from outside. The sign on the door tells you too. Zum products are sold in plenty of places, but I come to Indigo Wild Aromatics, the factory store, to find the deals. The best deal for the bar soaps is the prepackaged pound bags of odds and ends. For a bit more, but still a really good deal, is a huge bin for you to rummage through and pick your own odds and ends pieces. Sometimes, there is a clearance section as well, and the best time to find items on clearance is at the end of the season. The products are made using essential oils and natural or plant-based ingredients. Aside from bar soaps, you can find lotions, liquid hand soaps, laundry soaps, skincare items, and a few other things. I like the lavender scents and the seasonal peppermint scents the most, but everything smells so good unless you are not a fan of a certain scent because the products have a strong scent. Aside from using the bar soaps for your hands and body, they are great for freshening up your closet or other enclosed spaces. The company will not help if there is an issue with the products like the one I had. I have been a loyal customer for many years and only once had a problem with their products. I felt the product I purchased had changed drastically from the original product that I ordered and the company wants me to pay shipping back. They have a tendency to alter scent profiles without informing anyone so you can end up with something that either was a mistake in production or just an arbitrary alteration. If you don't like the result, believe me, they do not care at all. Customer retention is clearly not a concern for them. Too big to care, maybe? read more

Wanting to support a local company, I purchased a bottle of their laundry soap. The bottle said, SEA SALT. Further description on the bottle states CITRUS SMELL. NO! This is the most nasty smelling soap I've ever encountered. It's most definitely PATCHOULI which makes me nauseous. I called the 800 customer service number and was told that SEA SALT scent has "smokey patchouli" in it. Why is that not on the label????? The customer service agent told me I could ship it back (seriously-spend more on shipping than I paid for the product!!!) and they would ship me a different scent. I bought this bottle at Target so I'm going to hope they will take it back. In the meantime, my clothes stink! I'm now soaking and washing my clothes in baking soda and white vinegar for the second time trying to get this nasty smell out of my clothes! I've visited Indigo Wild in person with a family member and had a great experience. The employees were incredibly sweet and took time to explain their products, including the Zum lab area. I've also ordered online a few times--everything arrived well packaged with no issues. Recently, I've started using their all-purpose cleaner spray bottles. I bought patchouli-scented laundry soap from Amazon and was initially happy with it. However, the next order arrived rancid. After getting a replacement, same issue. Even though Amazon has a free return policy, dealing with this problem was very inconvenient for me. I contacted Indigo Wild directly via email both times, but they dismissed my concerns without acknowledging the possibility of a faulty batch being distributed. Thinking the issue was with Amazon, I ordered four more bottles directly from Indigo Wild. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred again. It seems clear that Indigo Wild must be aware of this issue, as several months have passed and many customers may have purchased the product. When I contacted them, they insisted that there were no issues with the product, claimed they had never encountered this complaint before, and assured me they were "regulated." It seems apparent that their regulatory measures do not effectively address quality control concerns. Shipping my return to them cost me $38. read more

I bought five cleaning sprays from this company, and this one arrived with a broken sprayer. They had been repackaged by UPS and essentially put in a large plastic trash bag inside of a box without any padding. When I opened the trash bag, the cleaner spilled everywhere. I cleaned everything up and politely asked for a refund for the one broken cleaner out of five the next day and was refused since I didn't take pictures (too busy cleaning up a pool essential oils off my wood table), despite the customer service rep having documentation of the repackaging by UPS (which probably happened because there was leakage!). I was offered 58 rewards points, which is equal to about $1 (lol). I've spent hundreds of dollars at this company (I use their cleaning products as well as their soaps), so being treated this way was a little insulting. read more

I've used Zum Bar products for years. I use their lavender bath salt, lavender bar soap, and lavender room spray. Yeah...I know, I need to step out of my lavender comfort zone. But in aroma therapy, lavender is a calming fragrance, eases stress and tension. Besides that, it smells heavenly. But, my bath soap was getting tiny, and I decided I'd go to the factory store. I'm glad I did. I took Sara D. with me, and I found the little factory on 31st and Wyandotte. You enter through the side door. The shop is small, but the employee met me in the shop, and showed me to the scratch and dent room. Well, guess what was there? An entire 4 foot bin full of soaps. Lavender/oatmeal behind one of them. Frankincense/myrrh and others, all for alteast one dollar off of regular prices. These are sold by weight. They are unlabeled. They smell heavenly. The store also had half off of laundry soap. This made the laundry soap, which is HE, run $10.00. Not pricey at all. Frankincense/myrrh is the fragrance.I'm using it right now, and the room smells like an infuser. I should've bought all 3. I've never bought the laundry soap in the grocery store, I thought it ran too much money. I don't think twice about paying $10 for it. What a deal! I use alot of Zum, and always have. Maybe a few trips to the factory back room, and I'll switch from a lavender obsession to a Frankincense/myrrh obsession. Or maybe lime next time. How can someone choose just one? I love love love this place! I love the smell of my shower, closet and any other place I have my Zum soaps and goodies stored at my house. My mom somehow came across this soap when I lived in Kentucky, I was transferred to the home office shortly after she sent me some. When my mother was visiting this past summer we made sure we visited their "store" downtown. Their store is about 15x15, DOGS ALLOWED!!! Yay. It's fairly easy to find, if you don't know your way around your GPS will go nuts and keep re routing. The actual store and factory is in a brick building, off the beaten path. Plenty of parking. If you sign up for their texts, they send specials for walk in Wednesday's. They also have alcohol available on walk in Wednesdays. For example-the two days after Christmas all holiday items are BOGO....and you know that's a huge deal since the soap and goodies is pretty pricey! They offer everything from laundry soap to baby items ( that help we diaper rash and such) they even have koozies for your bottles, little knitted sweaters. Of course I bought one. I am a big fan of their laundry soap and their body soap! They have at least 18 different smells for their soap, my favorite is the lavender based ones. They use goat milk to create their soap and essential oils to add the fragrance. Don't bring someone with allergies into the store-they may die by sneezing. All their items are made naturally. It really is great stuff, awesome gift ideas for those of you who like to buy local. Plan on dropping at least $50 if you go in. -Mother in Laws love this stuff---be the hero during the next holiday and buy her some! You can order online-sign up for their emails so you can deals. My name is Kat - I am addicted to F&M soap and body oil. Living in Springfield I go to KC pretty often, and always meant to go to the factory store but seemed to never have the time. Last weekend I made going to the factory a priority - I am so glad I did. When I got out of my car the entire neighborhood smelled delicious - like I want to buy a house in that area just so it always smells like their soap. Unfortunately they no longer offer tours of the factory (should have gone sooner) and the products arent any cheaper at the location than at normal stores (a surprise as I thought that I would save money by going straight to the source) However the experience and the total friendliness of the employees was absolutely worth it - and I will go back. I finally made it to Indigo Wild a few weeks ago and I was pleased with my experience. As I drove into the parking lot, I could instantly smell the heavenly soaps!!! The parking spaces are labeled with different Zum scents and you must enter through the side door (it had a goat on the front of it). The actual shop floor is small and everything is on shelving. The rest of the building is used for manufacturing. The staff was very helpful and gave me space and time to look around. Indigo wild carries more Zum products than places like Hyvee and for a few dollars cheaper... Though still pricey to spend in a regular basis. If you are in the area and like Zum products, I would recommend stopping in to see all of the various products offered as well as any gifts you might need! I've been a big fan of Indigo Wild's "Zum" products since before I even moved to KC in 2007. When I'd visit town, I'd pick up some sprays to bring back to Illinois with me. When I got married, I made all my bridesmaids local company-filled gift bags that contained, among other things, Zum body sprays, soaps, and lip balm from Indigo Wild. When I had my kids, I kept Zum sea salt spray in my hospital rooms, spurring the nurses on the floor to refer to my room as "the spa suite." When we were stationed out of state for a year near Chicago, I was delighted to see that Mariano's Fresh Market carried their products. Despite my fandom, I only recently made it to their factory store, though I've known about it for years. My husband had gotten me a seasonal scent, their Blitzum, at Christmas. Because I ran through it so quickly, I wanted to get a few more before they were out of season. So we packed up the kids and headed on over to the factory store when Hy-Vee and Natural Grocers were both out of the limited edition scent. I will say that this is not the destination for those who have sensory sensitivities. It is literally attached to the factory, and the comingling scents are likely to be overpowering to some. I didn't personally mind at all, but my husband, who can go on overload fairly easily, did have to step out with the kids while I finished shopping. It's not a bad thing, IMO...it's just a small space packed with a lot of different scents, so it's really inevitable. The atmosphere is as nice as I expected. The staff was kind and helpful, and wasn't put out that I came in with two toddlers, which was nice. They had the limited edition scent that I desired, and it was somewhat discounted, so that was even better. They also had a number of specialty products and mix and match ends of soap bars, where you can make an assortment featuring different scents. I was also offered a complimentary glass of Boulevard while I shopped, which I thought was really top notch! Overall, this is a great destination for Indigo Wild fans, so long as they are mentally prepared for the wall of scent. read more

The place smells amazing starting from the parking lot! Once inside, your wrapped in all sorts of wonderful smells of their goats milk zum-ness ! They have a section at the back wall where you can buy "odds and ends" pieces of soap at a fraction of the cost. That's my kind of deal. $50.00 buys you about 11 bars of soap this way. Let me paint you a picture. I received an email for a Fourth of July sale, I go to the website, see a 3 pound loaf of soap for $5.25 and cannot believe my luck. I purchase some, along with some other things, and let my mother know-who also purchases some along with some other things. Fast forward to today. I receive a voicemail, so return the call to Annie whom I have spoken with on occasion before since I've been ordering from this company for many years. She says to me that the soaps were improperly priced and should have been $72 per loaf, do I still want them? When I tell her I would like them at the price I paid for them and they were listed for, she tells me that was a mistake and they are a small business, yada yada. I tell her I understand but that's not my fault as the customer since they were listed at that price and I was able to complete my purchase at that price. She begins to make passive aggressive remarks, but then relents and says she'll honor the price for everyone who ordered, after I tell her I've promoted this company to hundreds of others, and my mother also purchased some. She then calls my mother who also happens to be standing in my living room. She tells my mother the same thing she told me about the improper pricing and asking if she wants the soaps for $72 per loaf. My mother responds the same way that I did, advising her that she's worked in marketing and sales many years, and it's up to the company to make it right. Annie then tells my mother to "have a heart" and makes a comment alluding to "karma" for my mother's request to receive the order she paid for. Then Annie attempted to back-pedal her karma comment when confronted. Annie, you are an affront to Indigo Wild. This is representative of the ethos your company, and perhaps I am your karma. If you understood your profession, you'd understand that more customers are likely to write reviews regarding negative experiences. I have been a customer for 12 years, I will purchase nothing else from Indigo Wild. A word of professional advice: 1- If you had contacted either of us with humility and kindness instead of entitlement, blame and aggression for something that was YOUR FAULT, I can guarantee that we both would have told you to simply cancel the soap part of our orders. You didn't ask us to pay normal price, you told us both separately that if we wanted them we'd need to pay more. You did not approach either of us that way, even separately, after you told me that you would honor my mother's order. You then proceed to call her and insult a woman who is recovering from cancer, using karma as some sort of threat? How distasteful. How hateful. How shameful. 2- You have NO IDEA who some of your customers are, who they know, what they know, or the level of determination they have. You should be very careful since I have a larger social media following than Zum. May your front teeth fall out, so your enemies know you by your smile. Love and Light! read more

Came from California to Lake of the Ozarks. Saw you at HyVee before they kicked you out I began using their soap in the patchouli and sandlewood flavors. Then my wife got me the patchouli spray mist. Great way to smell good and feel like a hippie again. I know running a local businesses can be tough. I worked for SBDC in California, before coming back to Missouri. Frankincense and myrrh has become my signature scent, I use it absolutely every day and am recognized by the scent at this point. All I use is one spray and I use my wrists to rub it around my neck, arms and elbows. Other products I personally would recommend are the Rosemary Mint and the Patchouli Sprays, the almond lotion, and the Sandalwood Citrus, Cedar, and winter scents. Definitely check out this company. When I lived in Colorado, I could purchase their products locally and loved them, but now that I am in Florida I have to order from the website. For Christmas, I ordered a sanple set as a gift and several other items. Everything came in a box with just a few packing peanuts inside. One of the items in the gift set had broken open and the liquid ruined the other items in the set. Additionally the bath salt pack I ordered was ripped open and spilled in the box. The box itself was not damaged so it seems the crappy packing inside ruined everything. Since I had to go out on Christmas Eve to find a replacement gift, I decided to email the company about the issue. One of my favorite place to buy these "necessities" is Indigo Wild. Most of the products can be used for more than one purpose. They use great ingredients and essential oils. They love dogs at Indigo Wild! Take a tour sometime, you'll see many, many 4 legged friends throughout. My dog smells so good in his Indigo spray. You have many options as to where you can purchase their product. You can go directly to Indigo Wild and shop their retail area, go to Whole Foods, or even most local grocers carry a limited supply. My favorite spa, Bijin in Prairie Village actually has their own line of products made exclusively for them by Indigo Wild! I started listing my favorite scents and combo's, but there are too many to list. The company is local and has great values and a great business philosophy. The last few years I have become increasingly picky about the body products I use. The more I learn about certain chemicals, and start reading labels, the more I am so happy that we have Indigo Wild in our city to provide simple, real-ingredient, delicious-smelling body and home products! I use their lotion, soaps, facial products, whiff sticks, muscle rub, and sometimes the household cleaners. I've never been dissatisfied with any of their products that I have tried. The scents are pretty strong, but that is what I like. I don't find them to be offensive, but I could see where some people might be a little sensitive. You can visit their factory to purchase items, find some array of their products in most grocery stores in the area, or order via their website. Even though we live in KC, I often find it easier to order on the web. If you sign up for their email list, you will get periodic email specials (spend x amount and get free shipping, products, etc.) They are really great deals, and a new one gets sent out every couple weeks. The best is opening up the package once it arrives. The wonderful scents hit you immediately, and besides finding all of the fun things you ordered there are always little samples included. Who doesn't love cute, little samples?! Prices can look a little steep, but these babies are worth it! HyVee tends to have the best prices on their bars of soap. Indigo Wild is one of the reasons I love living in Kansas City. Their products are very pure and natural, and smell like heaven. Zum Rub is a lifesaver and can be used for an insane amount of things, from moistening new tattoos to taming flyaway frizzies. Not to make myself the butt of a joke here, but their Zum Bum is also a fantastic spray that they call a 'bidet in a bottle' -- spritz it on toilet paper before you wipe for a soothing, freshening, cleansing experience that almost makes you run out of the bathroom and tell strangers "Dude! You've gotta try this!" I've got two young boys who will kill me for posting the fact that they like to use it too. The Zum Bath salts are also a huge hit with the boys, because they like to invent their own flavors from the different scents sold in the Zum Jujucuzzi set. Seriously. Little boys, clamoring to get in the bath. This is the magic of Zum. The factory is a blast to visit, especially when there are dogs working. The music is great, the staff are warm and knowledgeable, and the products are fantastic. Love this place!! An adorable shop to visit, fabulous scents with a very friendly staff. Haven't bought a product at Indigo Wild I didn't like. And, they always have a great sale rack in the back. I'm actually addicted to a couple of Zum products. First - All Natural Goats Milk Almond Zum Bar Soap - such a fabulous scent it's tough to resist taking a little nibble. Second - Zum Clean Frankincense & Myrrh Aromatherapy Laundry Soap - Yes, this laundry soap is pricey...but buy it and save it for sheets and dog bedding. Makes the house smell great. I started seeing Indigo Wild's ZUM soaps around in Lawrence when I was in college. It was only after I got out of school that I found out it was a company local to Kansas City and that they had a storefront. The store is cute, and fun because most places don't carry all their products so it's really nice to see everything in one place. You can also take advantage of the sale bin, which is full of mystery scent products or discontinued scents. My beau really likes the soaps but especially likes the Zum Rub, which is an rich salve that helps heal and soothe chapped hands, elbows and feet. He's tried several scents and they've all been nice but not overwhelming. I love the soaps too, but I also like the soap sachets for my drawers, and the laundry detergent. I get rashes from regular detergents like Tide or All, but the Zum detergent has been nothing but good to me. Their Coco line has a chocolate mint lipbalm that is AMAZING and you should get it if you're a choco-lover. I haven't tried any of the facial skincare line but I am really looking forward to doing so. All in all, an awesome company with awesome values AND awesome products. I was first introduced to Zum by a thoughtful friend who gave me a product sampler complete with soap, bath oil and other fragrant goodies. I knew I had a winner when, a few days after storing the plastic pouch in my linen closet, I opened the door and was immediately greeted by Zum's lavender fragrance. Since then, I've purchased various Zum products, including several drawer sachets (again in the irresistible lavender scent). I adore the fact that the products are locally made and contain fewer harsh chemicals, a great alternative to a place like Bath and Body Works. I even have several products on my Zum wish list: the sweet orange laundry soap and anything from the limited edition peppermint-scented line, only available around the holidays. I lovelovelove this place. Their face soap is amazing. I have struggled with name brand soaps for years. This is the only soap that works for me. The people that work here are super friendly and helpful. The dogs are super friendly as well, although more distracting than helpful. My Dad lives in New York and cant get Zum unless he orders it online, so when he's feeling homesick or just having a rough week I send him some. My whole family loves this stuff. read more

My wife loves the factory & on-site store, we probably shop here every 6 weeks or so. I use the Zum grapfruit rosemary oil with diffusers in my office and my colleagues love it. It gives the office a fresh fragrance without being obnoxious like plug-in fragrances. The store itself is fairly small but has a full selection of products. There are several products that we can't find at Whole Foods that are available at the factory store. The grapefruit rosemary being an example. Indigo Wild is a local company that has some of the best household/ beauty items in the city. The company makes soaps, make up, aroma therapy, household cleansers, and other numerous items right here in Kansas City. The products are all natural and I have been using them for several years. I love their goats milk soaps (patchouli and sea salt are my favorite scents) , the zum mists (to spray in my car), but my new favorite is the laundry detergent. It works excellent on stains and odors and has no chemical by products in it. Although you can buy their products in local stores you can also purchase them at the headquarters where they make the items. The store is small and there are lots of dogs milling around. The customer service is great and everyone is super friendly with lots of samples abound. They are moving to 31st and Wyandotte soon. read more
