The…read morecheck in desk was incredibly helpful and upgraded us since we were there to celebrate my husbands birthday! She explained many features of the hotel to us, as well as recommended the Paranormal tour. We settled into our room and got our swim suits on to explore the pools. I had stayed here in the late 80's as an 10yr old with my family and remembered some of the features. Was sad to see the waterfall pool had been closed in the early 2000's. But we enjoyed the European Lap Pool in the basement. I remembered it being a trek down some weird hallways. It was just as I remembered it, just a touch modernized. The water was incredibly refreshing after our hot afternoon at the Cubs/Royals game. There were a good number of kids in the hot and cold tubs, so we didn't get to enjoy them. We went upstairs and enjoyed the outdoor pool as well. It had thinned out over dinner time and was relaxing to enjoy. The Paranormal tour was EPIC and I highly recommend it. Being clairvoyant myself, it was very interesting to be able to put others encounters to what I was feeling in the hotel. While I never SAW a ghost, I could definitely feel their presence in certain places around the hotel. The next day, Monday, we enjoyed the pools again in the morning We booked the Grotto Experience, which I have to say was subpar for me. I didn't know much about it other than being told it was a must do and involved thermal hot and cold experiences. I'm not a fan of either. While it was just us, and one other couple for part of the time, and just us for most of the time, I was able to relax on the lounge chairs while my husband experienced the sauna and the steam rooms. Not my cup of tea. I did sit in the hot tub on the edge, again too hot for me. My favorite part was the ice cold peppermint towels. I was able to put one over my head and go into the steam room for a little while. I would not do it again though. We had a relaxing afternoon and enjoyed the pools again in the evening. Two things: 1)I would like coffee, nothing fancy, just black coffee and sugar/creamer offering in the lobby. I don't do fancy coffee so the coffee shop didn't appeal to me. 2) we were on the 4th floor and did the steps a LOT because of the small single elevator serving the whole hotel. So if you come, be ready to wait for the elevator or use the stairs. Overall we really enjoyed our stay for my husband's birthday. It was incredible to experience the hotel again through adult eyes and see things I remembered and enjoyed as a small child 35 years ago. Will return again soon!

The lobby is gorgeous and has that early 20th century arcade feel, when each nook felt like it held its own mysteries. The rest of the property is badly in need of a renovation. The pool is too small for the throngs of people using it. My hotel room was dirty and nasty. Tears on the furniture, stains on the carpet, linens and bedding that smelled. Actually shortened my stay as a result. Same with most of the other public spaces. They just haven't invested enough in upkeep over the years. Everything else was overpriced and underwhelming: the restaurant, room service, the spa, even the town itself. There's so much potential to build out a lovely walkable village around the hotel, but like with most such places in Missouri, the opportunity is squandered. It's another impoverished small town that time has forgotten. Bottom line, it has lasted this long because of reputation and because there's not really anything else like it in the area. But that doesn't make it good. If you're in the area, stop by and take a picture and get a coffee at the lobby coffee bar. Then be on your way.

Laura is an angel! I really appreciate that. Besides being extremely knowledgeable and staying educated in her field, Laura exudes a warmth and kindness that makes you feel like old friends. She gives awesome hugs and I always, always feel better as I walk out her door - my skin is smoother and calmer and emotionally I feel lighter and more positive. I first saw her less than a month before my wedding and she helped calm my skin down - I can't imagine how I would feel about my wedding pictures if I had not seen her. About 5 months later I started her Face Reality acne program and we worked to get my skin under control. Each appointment she applied different treatments including peels, LED light therapy, electrical stimulation to promote healing and more I'm sure I'm forgetting. I've been battling acne since I was 12 so I'm definitely a tough case to treat! Additionally she kept my brows waxed and tinted on a monthly basis, and I got hooked on growing long natural lashes with RevitaLash which she carries. I have even gifted my mom several facials with Laura and she raves on about them for weeks after. Appointments are scheduled online which I love, you can order products and pick them up or she'll even ship them free! Laura helped me find a new esthetician when I moved but I really miss her!

She also gave a great shoulder and neck massage during the facial. Guys, this isn't girly, do something nice for yourself and get that face cleaned up. You won't regret it. I've gotten two Brazilian waxes from her so far and plan on returning since I've been satisfied both times with the results. She has fast hands and is great at making one feel comfortable while you're laying on a table with your bits laid bare. Also, the space she works in is well put-together, clean, and very inviting. I've only gotten Brazilians professionally done at one other place, so the only itty-bitty criticism is that both times have had to shower afterwards to finish removing some pieces of wax that have held on. The other location I've gone to would wipe down the area with an oil to help clean up the area with this, but Piper does not do this. Again, very small criticism that isn't preventing me from coming back, but I did want to be sure to provide an honest review. Apr 2026 pricing for a Brazilian - $68 + tip.
