Outside the Indy film fest, plenty of interesting artwork at the IMA .... this from Lichtenstein.

So glad Indy has a film fest to show films that might otherwise not be seen. 2016 has some great offerings. Took my hubby and son to see the documentary on climbing up K2, & the invisible but crucial people who carry the climbers gear. It was such beautiful scenery, yet cold and brutal. These people have so little, and this is their only livelihood but at great risk to their health and their lives. Planning to take in a few more screenings before the festival ends next weekend. Check it out!

Indianapolis is one of the coolest cities I've ever been a part of. That may be a very broad statement, but the community has been so awesome to get everyone involved. Indy Film Fest is just one of those events that connects so many bodies together that would otherwise never meet. Being a pretty main stream movie goer earlier in my years, I always thought film fests were for hippies. I assumed all movies that came out of these festivals were B movies that could never make theaters. Let me tell you how wrong I was. The two movies I saw were actually the opening and closing night features, Wind River and Patti Cake$. Wind River blew my mind; it is the best movie I've seen in years. When the opening scene included Jeremy Renner, I was dumbfounded because I didn't know that these movies had budgets big enough to star A-list actors. My emotions were going the whole movie. I for sure shed a tear in the first hour (don't tell anyone) and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat for the rest of the movie. The story behind Wind River was even more powerful, as the whole movie was made to promote awareness for young Native American women. Patti Cake$ was the polar opposite movie to Wind River; it had us laughing and damn near peeing our pants at some points. And I won't lie, this movie had me rapping along with Patti like the little Asian gangster that I am. The sponsors were all awesome. Just Pop In was actually the reason we got tickets in the first place so a big thank you to them!! And the little parties after the movie.... I hope I will be able to attend next year in the spring time and my goal is to see 4-6 movies throughout the 10 day stent. Five stars all around!!!!

Ok, I have so much to say about this event!!! First off, who knew it was so awesome?!?!? I won tickets for being the first to post on Just Popin's Instagram - had they not posted, I would have never even know about the Indy Film Fest at the IMA. We were able to see two movies: 1. Wind River and 2. Patti Cakes. BOTH movies were absolutely amazing!!! The theater was spacious and created such an awesome environment to kick our feet up and watch a great movie. I also loved the panel after Wind River! It was great to hear from Tokala Clifford and the amazing cultural preservation of this movie. I learned so much about the Native American culture. After the movie we had an after party with h'orderves and drinks which was so awesome!!! Nice touch! Also I loved the drinks and Just Popin popcorn that could be purchased before the movie!!! Loved my canned Rose as well!!! I am a new fan of the Indy Film Fest!

Lucked up and scored 2 free tickets to this year's event, and saw Tully which was fantastic. Sun King was there to provide the tasty beverages during the movie, and afterwards the included vip party was fantastic. Yummy snacks shared by all while mingling and discussing the movie, plus wine and a decent DJ. Not a bad w weeknight out! Next year I plan to try to attend more nights at the film fest, I love the opportunity to see these films that otherwise might not have been on my radar!

Movie screen is large and blemish free. Sound comes thru your radio. Nice playground for kids. Grassy parking. Concessions are great. Hot Dog, fries, popcorn, candy and soda are a must here. We loaded up my car with 3 adults and 2 children and got in to this quaint little drive-in for the $25 carload special. What a deal! We had packed up our favorite snacks and drinks, since most of us have food allergies and special dietary needs. So I can't speak of the concession stand. But it sounded like their fried donuts are a big hit. The people on both sides of us went back a few times for more, and their children cheered as their sweet treats were delivered. After the first movie, they announced that if anyone wanted more donuts, now was the time to get them, as they were close to running out for the evening. The rest of the drive-in seemed very well kept. I'm used to the drive-in downtown, with nothing but gravel. This drive-in only has one screen, but is much nicer. The lush grass is perfect for spreading out a blanket and sprawling out while you snack and take in a movie. My girls absolutely loved the playground that's available, and I loved that it kept them occupied while we waited for the movie to start. We didn't realize they do not want anyone on the playground once the movie starts, so we allowed them to go swing a few times with the promise to be quiet. A few other children did so a few times, and I thought it was perfect for wiggly young children who struggle with sitting still for a 2 hour movie. They never played long before running back to the car. This was also a screening of a kids' movie, so I thought it was perfectly acceptable. However, I can see the danger that it may present, being so dark. At one point, several children ended up playing there and were getting a little rowdy. An employee came hurrying thru, apologizing to everyone in their path about the children "disturbing the movie" (oopsie. My bad.) and kindly told the children that the playground was closed. They were very polite about it, and now we know better for next time. We will definitely be back. This was a really enjoyable and pocketbook friendly family experience.

We are not always sophisticated people, but we are excellent at pretending. We started at the bar, which looks the part completely. Elegant, well stocked, the kind of bar that makes you feel like you should be wearing something nicer than what you showed up in. I ordered an old fashioned, at which point the gentleman behind the bar admitted, with full transparency, that he was not actually the bartender and would need to Google how to make it. I genuinely appreciated the honesty. In a galaxy full of people who would have just guessed and handed me something terrible, this man chose truth. I thanked him, switched my order to whiskey and coke, and we moved on as allies. From there we headed to concessions and ordered the Take it to the Greek wrap, the La Bamba pizza, and fries with little bits of steak on top. The food was good. Not life altering, not the kind of meal that makes you grab someone's arm and say nothing, just nodding, but genuinely solid movie theater food that arrived at our seats without us having to do anything except recline and wait. The seats reclined. There were actual tables. This is civilized. We watched Disclosure Day, which if you have any interest in extraterrestrial or UFO subject matter is absolutely worth your time. Sitting in a reclining leather seat watching a film about potential contact with beings from other worlds felt appropriately cinematic, even if the leather on most seats has seen better days. Chipping and worn in spots, which is the one visible crack in an otherwise well maintained experience. The theater itself was clean, the concept is fantastic, and the overall vibe delivered exactly what a day date calls for. Four stars. The bar needs an actual bartender on deck and the seats could use some attention, but Living Room Theater is still one of the better ways to spend an afternoon in Indianapolis.

We went on a Sunday and found street parking pretty easily, but then realized the theater validates parking for up to 3 hours. Such a nice perk -- wish I knew before circling around lol. We bought our tickets online ahead of time, and when we got there I ordered the garlic cheesy bread and a drink at the counter. Total was around $15. The seats were really comfy and spacious, which made the whole experience feel worth it. The food came out pretty fast. The garlic cheesy bread was probably like a 5/10 for me... not terrible, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Overall though, really nice theater and I'd definitely come back for another movie night.

The surfaces look sticky, and there are trails of stepped-on popcorn ground into the carpet. The seats do not recline, so expect an old-fashioned movie-going experience. Although, I've read that if you see a movie in the Dolby theatre, the seats are better, so your mileage may vary. One of the good things about this movie theatre is that it serves beer and wine. I didn't get any during my visit, but maybe I should have. The soft drinks are dispensed at a machine off to the side, and you can pick your flavor of soda. Another neat thing that I noticed: You can order your concessions ahead of time, and they will be ready to be picked up at a little nook off to the side. This would come in handy if you want to skip waiting in line! I don't usually order food at a movie theatre, but I had some food credits burning a hole in my pocket, so I got chicken tenders, mini chocolate chip cookies and pretzel bites for my child. My child originally wanted the Bavarian pretzel, but we were informed that the pretzel is as big as a steering wheel, so we opted for the pretzel bites instead. Who is buying soft pretzels as big as steering wheels? That seems obscene to me. Just make them a normal size? The chicken tenders were actually really good. Maybe my expectations were low for these chicken tenders, but they were fresh and crispy, and you get six big tendies in an order, with your choice of sauce (I chose honey mustard). The mini cookies were served warm, but they tasted a little weird -- almost like they were baked on a pan that had something else on it previously, like chicken tenders. As far as the movie theatre itself: We must have been in one of the smaller theatres, because it felt a little tight in there. But the sound was great, and the temperature was decent, and we generally had a good time.

Why on earth do the seats at Perry Crossing force you to sit up straight like you're in the army? Or some etiquette class? I'm not sure if it's only some theaters like this (our movie was showing in #9). I was absolutely uncomfortable the entire movie. Outside of that, it was clean & the movie quality wasn't janky (trust me I've been to a regal theater & the picture was "ashy & pixelated" like they were showing us a bootleg version ).
