I was not impressed with this theater at all. First of all the website acts like they serve food so we booked an afternoon movie thinking we would eat lunch and watch. This place is not like Flix where you can dine while you watch. The website had what I thought was a limited menu (hot dogs, chicken egg rolls, mozzarella sticks) but when we got there, they didn't even have that. It was pretzels, nachos or popcorn/candy. Also the seats were rocking chairs which doesn't compare to the AMC recliners and they had a velvet seat cover that looks like they haven't been cleaned in YEARS. I mean the arm rests we're so gross looking I didn't even want my arm to touch it. No thanks. Too much money and too many other better options to put up with that. Not to mention trying to find parking at the mall... Hard pass. read more

I've been to this cinema a lot this past year. The last time I was there, it was quite empty and before the movie started(as I was just walking up the steps to my seat), very bright canister lights were shining down on the green velvet seats. They were filthy. I couldn't believe it. Srsly, it looked as though they hadn't been cleaned in like a year. Luckily, I had a large black coat with me and I covered my gross seat with it. Otherwise, it's a decent cinema venue, but the nastiness of the chairs, is enough for me to not go back. read more

From the moment I walked in, everything went really smoothly. The staff at the counter was super helpful and patient when I had an issue with the app, which made the whole process stress-free. The place itself is spotless and feels really welcoming. I loved how relaxing the theater was -- the seats are comfortable, the atmosphere is calm, and there are nice extra touches that make it feel like more than just a regular movie night. Easy to buy tickets online and select your seats. The concession stand was mostly sold out of everything but popcorn and bottled water due to the Thanksgiving weekend/Black Friday/Wicked just opening, but the girls working concessions were super nice and apologetic about it. The chairs are comfortable, but note that they're not the big heated recliner seats that you find at most theaters these days. Pro tip: park on the 3rd floor of the parking garage (free!) and walk across the enclosed bridge to enter the mall. The theater is right there. Couldn't be easier! read more

Decided to hit up the movie theater while in Indy. I can see myself coming back to either Keystone cinema or one of the other Landmark cinemas because I personally dont have a theater near me that does foriegn films. I didn't see one this time because non of the times worked with my schedule, but Parasite looked really good. I ended up going to see Greed I enjoyed. I got there in time for matinee pricing and since I needed no food or drink I only paid $8.50. Their prices are on the higher end for everything. They are very reminiscent of my local Celebration Cinema. This is more of a theater where it's a real special treat to go to. They have an adult lounge too where u can get alcohol and the chairs are so comfy. I was able to enjoy my movie in a relaxed setting and since I went to a matinee, there were only 3 other people in the theater. It was so nice to be able to just relax in a comfy chair and the option to get a drink if I felt like it. Prices aren't low, but I could see myself coming once a month if I lived in the area simply for the foriegn movies. So glad I chose to check them out. read more

We came here to see Knives Out (one of the best movies I've seen in a long time) and this theatre was even better than I remembered. Why does it rock, you ask?! Here's five reasons: 1) It's always less crowded than other theatres and therefore cleaner than most. 2) They have the best snacks. I love that you can get a small popcorn and it's freshly-popped. They also have Broad Ripple Chips, interesting candy, and a few other local and interesting options. 3) They have an adult 'lounge' where you can snag a beer or wine to bring into the theatre with you. 4) You might think parking is difficult because this theatre is located in a mall, but no, it's not. You can park right outside, take the escalator up, and BOOM - you're there. 5) Want to eat dinner beforehand? Nordstrom Cafe is delicious and also secluded and usually calm. Located just a few yards from the theatre (you don't even have to go outside in between), you can get an incredible salad (my favorite ever), flatbread, famous tomato soup, etc. Now kick back and enjoy! read more

This was the perfect venue bc it allowed me to shop until close to the start time. I was able to check right bf it started and see it was less than 25% full for my movie, West Side Story. With it being in the mall, you can park in the garage by Nordstrom. Nice when it's inclement weather. read more

We have always loved this theater and enjoy the films they show! We were so excited to see our first movie in over a year in person today and saw The Courier. The theater is still requiring masks unless you are actively eating and drinking and enforce social distancing by blocking off sections of seats. I went to Keystone Art Cinema today to see The French Dispatch. I haven't been to Keystone since the Covid outbreak and closures. I have a monthly membership to Regal so I rarely go elsewhere. However since this movie isn't playing at Regal I had no other choice. It was a midday movie starting at 3:30 and my ticket was $8.25. The theater was nearly empty with only me, another guy and a group of four people. Tickets had to be purchased at the concession stand. I believe the only concessions available were fountain drinks and popcorn. The case that used to have other offerings on prior visits such as cookies and candies was completely empty. So keep that in mind if you like treats at the movies. I took my iced tea in with me. I unfortunately did not like the movie, unfortunately as I'm a big Wes Anderson fan but I didn't care for this one. However that is no fault of the theater of course! read more

Been coming to the Keystone Art Cinema for years, and I just love it! If you're into indie films, this is the place to go to see those on the big screen. The most recent film I saw was "I'm Your Man," which is a German film. I was the youngest there by 20+ years. There were probably a total of 5 people in the whole theatre, and everyone was on their own. But I'm definitely ok with that. That means less people around me. I'm a bit weird these days about people being too close to me, so this works for me. They do require masks, but I wear mine anyways. And I like that not many people go to these movies because you don't have to worry about people too close to you. You basically have the whole theatre to yourself! So if you're bored with the movies showing at the regular theatre, check out the available films at the Keystone Art Cinema! You might be surprised. read more

I hate to give bad reviews; however my entire experience from the moment we walked in till the moment we left was a less than pleasurable experience. We went for the evening showing of 'Where'd you go Bernadette?' I was thrilled to check the Keystone Arts Cinema out. Perhaps, because it was located in the Fashion Mall my expectations were too high? We walked in and not a single person greeted us. There were thee younger women leaning on a podium near the theatre hallway and a gentleman and another women behind the snack bar. We were directed to get tickets at the machine near the entrance on a stand. We got our tickets and headed to get some snacks. The sign read "Always Fresh Popped" - I was thrilled I LOVE popcorn and since the days of popping all the popcorn prior and hauling it into giant black bags to be poured back in and reheated in the popcorn machine - I rarely get it. So we most definately were getting it this time. They offer to butter it for you. They also have frittle (a local company) so I was thrilled. They did have coffee but it was Starbucks duh duh duh :(. My partner got a coffee. The guy gave us our popcorn and completely walked away and never got us our drinks - finally I waved someone else down to get them. Maybe he was heading out - end of his shift - who knows. The lady whom took our tickets was fine. Robotic in her response. Theatre 7 on the right. We went in to scope our our seats. And I was... appalled. Not only are the seats old - they're very dirty - see pictures. I'm sure they've never been cleaned. Other patrons stray hairs, animal lint, makeup, grease, and whom knows what else covered every seat. I felt the creepy crawlies all over - I couldn't get comfortable. Then the popcorn... NOT FRESH POPPED. cold stale crumblies like bottom of the bag. No salt. Did I say stale. We ate maybe 3 handfuls and were over it. I went to go ask a manager for a replacement he was talking to another patron and then stomped away - "like I care". So I didnt bother. Movie was great I highly reccomend it just not the theatre. read more

A nice theater with more independent films. I like how they have good quality snacks however; their seats were dusty and not the best of quality (might just be aged). Popcorn was good but not the best price (small was $7). Movie theater was easy to find in the mall; second floor which there are escalators, elevator, and stairs available. Keystone Art Cinema is part of the Landmark Theatres Chain, a modestly sized national chain of theaters that initially focused exclusively on indie cinema but over the past few years has branched out to include wide release films. Located inside Fashion Mall at Keystone, on the 2nd floor, Keystone Art Cinema was initially "the" luxury theater in Indy though these days it likely more qualifies as an adult-targeted cinema. It was voted Indy's best by Nuvo readers in 2006 and 2007. There's an intimacy to Keystone that's hard to beat, a sense that when you hunker down into one of their seats you're genuinely escaping from the world for a bit. The 7-screen cinema offers DLP Digital Projection and Sound in each of its theaters, though it's hard to deny that even in its relatively short life of less than 15 years (it opened in 2005) the quality of both picture and sound has started to play a bit antiquated. It's not poor by any means, that would be its sister theater at Glendale, but there's no denying multiple Indy theaters now offer better audio and video. Keystone offers the Indie Lounge, a place where you can grab drinks - you can drink 'em there or take them to the theater. That's a huge plus. They also have the usual concessions - this includes limited Starbucks options. Up until the last year, the Landmark chain was owned by one of Mark Cuban's companies. Last year, indie filmmaker Cohen Media Group purchased the chain. There's no indication yet if this is going to eventually lead to anything resembling upgrades/renovations, but so far it appears to be business as usual. Theaters are for the most part small-to-modest in size. Theater 5 tends to be the biggest - often used for promo screenings and/or a wide release film expected to do bigger business. Unlike most theaters in Indy, Keystone Art also shows documentaries, foreign language films, and smaller indie projects. There are a couple arthouse theaters in the works, including the one over by Brookside Park but for now Keystone remains the most consistent player of indies. In terms of accessibility, Fashion Mall does fairly well but it's worth noting that Keystone Art isn't really situated that well for those with mobility issues. Accessible in the parking garage from the third floor, nearly all the parking is at a horrific and obnoxious slant that is difficult if you have a wheelchair or mobility concern. There's a walkway to the entrance area. On the flip side, the best accessible parking is near the food court. Unfortunately, this is on the opposite side of where you'd go for the theater. Anyway you look at it, it's a decent jaunt - doors are automatic and there is accessible parking - but you'll walk/wheel a decent ways. The theaters do offer accessible seating and actually are pretty generous with wheelchair friendly spots. Keystone also offers Captiview and Fidelio adaptive equipment for those with visual, hearing, and other impairments. While I do wish Keystone would get an upgrade, it still remains one of my favorite theaters in Indy. The staff is always friendly and the theaters are kept clean and for the most part in good repair. Concessions offer a wide variety, though not quite the mass "please 'em all" approach taken at some multiplexes. They do occasionally show family films and animated features, so you'll get some films with kids but it's not uncommon to go to a movie here and actually enjoy a quiet theater where you're not distracted other than by that one person who always seems to check out their phone. If you join up with their e-mail film club, you get great tips on upcoming films and occasional invitations to promo screenings. As is true for most theaters, the theaters can be rented for private screenings or festivals or special events - additionally, Indie Lounge can also be booked for private gigs. I still highly recommend Keystone Art - it's likely my favorite in Indie, though it's not quite the five-star gem it was when it first opened. Still, it's definitely upper tier when it comes to Indianapolis's cinema scene. read more

Not the experience we are used to. It has literally been over a decade since we've been to Keystone Arts. I think the last movie we saw here was probably Brokeback Mountain. Ticket counter closed, ticket sales done online or at the Snack Bar. $4 for a 20oz Bottle of water. It was the only zero sugar, zero artificial sweetener drink I saw. Area just looked desolate. Theater 2 seats need a steam cleaning as well as the carpet. Theater had a well used smell. Husband got popcorn and a soda. It filled his need for the "Thing you have to do, when you go to a movie". Needs updating but with the lack of movie goers that's likely not top of the list. I do prefer just staying home and streaming a movie. read more

What a neat little theater! Located inside the Fashion Mall near Nordstrom's, Keystone Art Cinema shows documentaries and films you won't see at a traditional movie theater. Think indie films and Oscar nominees in place of blockbusters. Purchasing tickets online was a breeze and we walked right in to the theater after an attendant scanned our tickets. We had dinner beforehand in the mall, but it looks like there's a lounge that serves food, beverage, etc. in the lobby of the cinema. I dig this place. It's a classy movie theatre, where people who like art-house and indie movies go to relax an enjoy a film. It's my go-to theatre when I just want to grab a coffee and immerse myself in a movie. I have a few tips, which I've acquired after visiting this place several times. When I follow these rules, everything is smooth sailing: 1. Park in the open-air parking lot near Nordstrom. In this area, the mall entrance doors open directly in front of the escalator that takes you to the movie theatre. It's literally like, open the doors, step on the escalator, and boom -- you're at the ticket counter. 2. Purchase all beverages and food at the main concession counter. They have a coffee and tea station with baristas, but they can only make orders -- they do not ring up orders. I waited in line here for a few minutes before I realized that I needed to buy my drink order at the concession stand. 3. Take advantage of the neat things they offer. You can order alcoholic drinks here! There is a bar here where you can get beer on tap, wine by the glass, cocktails ... it's awesome. You will need to order your drinks and take them to your seat yourself. This is a self-serve-beverage theatre. One time, I was double-fisting two beers for myself as I navigated my way to my seat. No one batted an eye. That's what the bar is there for, right? read more

I can't say enough good things about this theater. Part of it is probably nostalgia. Even though this is a totally modern theater and there's nothing nostalgic-looking about it, it takes me back to my childhood when every shopping mall had a theater, and the fact that this mall happens to be my favorite mall of all time is icing on the cake. To all the Keystone haters out there, please get over it. Yes, it's an expensive mall with upscale shops, an Apple Store and a Tesla showroom. If you prefer a rural strip mall with a Dollar General store, tattoo artists and plenty of tobacco and vape shops to choose from, then this isn't where you should be shopping. The Keystone Art Cinema shows non-mainstream movies that appeal to a certain crowd. Some people aren't into that, but I am. The concession stand was nicely staffed and supplied, and I found the entire theater to be very clean and well maintained. I hope they stay in business for a long time. It's probably hard competing against the mega-plex theaters, but if they keep doing what they're doing, I think they'll continue to be successful. read more

I've been here many times over the years but somehow haven't written a review. I love that we have a theater that shows films that are somewhat limited release. At this visit we saw RBG, which for some reason doesn't seem to be playing anywhere else in town. The location in the mall is convenient and the attached garage is perfect in bad or very hot weather. The theaters could use a little TLC. Some of the seats have seen better days, and at this visit the sound cut out for about 5 minutes of the movie which was disappointing. I wish they would have replayed the portion we missed. I'm guessing the projectors are as old as the seats. They do have cocktails available for purchase, but I've never tried one here. Usually we have dinner somewhere before or after a movie so tend to steer away from pricey theater food and beverages. The names of the creations look interesting though! read more

We went here for the first time the other day to see Minari. This is the spot to go see the lesser hyped movies (aka indie films). Their concessions aren't spectacular, but that's not really the point. We were really impressed by the precautions set up, it definitely felt like they took social distancing seriously. The theater looked like 90% of the seats had been taped off. We look forward to going back, especially during the pandemic. read more

As far as Theaters go -- this Cinema is a full notch above the rest yes, the prices will be movie theater level, but you will get a much nicer experience. easy parking - just park near Benihana or use the Garage near Benihana and you will be on the West side of the mall where this place is. This theater is in the mall (which I like). It was clean. Tickets are reasonable. Parking is easy and the theater is straight up the escalator if you go in the right entrance. The staff were friendly and professional. The seats are a little outdated, but they serve the purpose. You can, also, buy a drink from the bar next door and take it in with you. I went on a Tuesday (which is a discount day). So, now that I know that, I'll be going back on another Tuesday. read more

If you are looking for the limited release movies then this is where to go! The ones that win Oscars and everyone's talking about. We have made it here more often after we got MoviePass! I was excited when Landmark was finally added and even better it is e-ticket so we can get them earlier in the day on our phones. I love that it's pretty much always adults here. The seats are comfortable and they were the first to offer beer and wine! Parking is usually pretty easy in the attached mall garage so it's easy to get in and out. I do wish movies would stay longer. Some leave so quickly and I am sad when I miss them. I need to better stay on top of release dates. They just don't seem to align with bigger cities so I never know what is showing unless I check the app. read more

This is a clean theatre with good popcorn and friendly staff! I was pleasantly surprised, especially considering it is in a mall. There is also a little coffee shop attached, which was a pleasant surprise! The seats and floor in the theatre were clean, and seating was comfortable. This was also the only theatre showing Isle of Dogs, and seems to occasionally have access to movies that aren't playing other places? I was a little disappointed by the snack and candy options, which were pretty limited. However the little coffee stand makes up for that in my opinion. Overall a solid theatre choice! Love the theater. For one, I can grab a drink for the show. Secondly, it is a great theater- clean, well kept, good sound system, good picture quality. And C) (joke lies in there) it shows movies not on the main stream circuit. My wife and I last saw Gone Girl there. (It is a main stream movie, but it was fun.) This place is wonderful! It is difficult to get to for those of us that don't live on the northside, but is certainly worth a trip! I saw RBG there and LOVED it. It's a great cute theater. Even better, it is the only theater in Indy that Movie Pass allows you to purchase a digital ticket and there are no assigned seats - so you and friends can buy tickets and not worry about the headache of logistics. They have fancy fun food at concessions (like vegan cookies) alongside M&Ms. TIP: You can park in the garage on the second floor, go across the skywalk to the mall, and the cinema is right there. read more

I really need to come here more often. I'm usually only here when I have tickets for free screenings. For starters, the place is so much cleaner that the other theater that I go to. The seats, the floors, literally everything. I figure since it's located in the Fashion Mall, they can't afford to have any dirty or run down areas. I also like that you can just hang out in the mall if you arrive to early to get into the theater. Food is a bit pricey, but that's typical for movie theaters. read more

Over the years this has become one of my favorite threatres. They have the right mix of foreign films, independent films and headliners. I like having the option of having a beer or cocktail with my popcorn while enjoying a movie. It is time for a renovation....bring on the reclining comfortable chairs. This is becoming a normal and Landmark Keystone needs to get on board. It could cause them a lot kf business if they don't. The crowd is mostly older...a very good thing. The noise level is minimal. And typical the threaters are not full. Maybe because the time of day I go, after work Monda through Friday and the first showing on Sunday. read more

My husband and I have gone to this theatre to see movies for at least 8 years with no problems. However, on 11/27/21, we experienced unequal treatment when purchasing tickets at the 12:34 pm showing. The ticket agent asked for my drivers license when paying with a credit card. I thought it was kind of strange to ask us 60 something retired people but showed her my ID anyway. But, about 2 minutes later a white couple paid with a credit card and was not asked to show any ID. We were surprised at this this kind of discrimination at this theatre in 2021. We waited to watch additional white credit card paying customers who were also not asked for an ID. I'm not sure we want to return and support an establishment with this type of service. read more

Went to a movie screening here this week. The employees were very welcoming. It was much more quiet and low key than other larger theatre. Restrooms clean. The seats were not as comfortable as the reckoning seats that are the norm these days. I sat in the front section because anywhere behind the main walkway was too far away from screen. Allow at least an extra 10 minutes to get from your car to the box office Tips: +Avoid the service fee by buying advance tix at the kiosk outside of the box office. Clean, swanky and located in the 86th street fashion mall, The Arts Cinema sways away from blockbuster hits and toward deeper, more artistic films that tend fly under the radar. It's a great place to catch a low budget indie film or watch the Oscar nominees. When it comes down to it, it's just a movie theatre. It's a $10 ticket, they offer all the classic snacks like popcorn, soda and candy, and there are ample bathroom stalls and personable staff. I am a movie fan....a HUGE movie fan having seen all but 9 of the 528 movies nominated for Best Picture by the Academy. So, when I want to see an indy film that is simply not available any place else in Central Indiana, I drive the 45 minutes necessary to see it at the Keystone Art Cinema. Their selection of films is unmatched, ranging from the smallest Indy film all the way up to the blockbusters. Sure, some films I can wait until they come out on DVD or an online service, but when I can figure out a movie time that works well with catching a lunch on the north side, then I am all in! In addition to the best selection of movies, they have the basics for snacking. They also were one of the first places around town to offer alcoholic beverages to enjoy while watching the movie. Comfortable seating and good sound systems work well for enjoying films. Prices, while on the higher end, aren't outrageous compared to most other movie theaters. The only negative for me is that their parking can be limited due to competing with all the Keystone at the Crossing Mall customers. Sometimes, you just have to walk farther. Review #104 read more
